Prologue Decisions. Aren't they extraordinary? One single decision can do wonders. It can change the whole course of history. It can make or break any person, their dreams, their hopes, their aspirations. It is also so amazing how fast our brain can make them. Like what to make for dinner, which movies to see, which book to read, to study or go out with friends, the type of coffee, what to wear, what to drink, which hairstyle and on and on and on. We make millions of decisions without even thinking about them. But sometimes the consequences of these decisions can be a burden too. Be a deal breaker and change someone's life entirely. Nothing can be done to fix the wrongs. Not getting what I am saying? Well then let's just rewind to 18 years back. The King screamed while his wife looked at him strangely. She tilted her head and watched as the tough, dark-haired man screamed again, his eyes clenched shut. "Honey," she began gently. "Are you the one who is CURRENTLY GIVING BIRTH TO A BABY?" she couldn't help but shout in the end as the contraction hit again. The King looked at his wife and felt an overwhelming sense of proudness. With her long blond hair in a bun, emerald green eyes filled with pain and with perspiration on her forehead and her eyebrows, she still looked stunning to the King. He loved her with all his heart and he knew she did too. The proof was her rounded stomach. "Sorry, sweetheart, it's just that you are...crushing my fingers...please...let go!" The King gasped as the Queen clutched his fingers again so tightly, that even though he was sure that his fingers were numb a long time back, he still felt the pain. The Queen reluctantly let go of his fingers and grabbed the bedsheet on which she was lying, fisting it in her two small hands to deal with the pain. She felt that if she left his fingers, he won't be there anymore. He will be ushered out and then she would have to endure the pain alone. It was as if he had read her mind, the King whispered, "I won't let go, Nora. I won't leave you." The King smiled. He loved her so much. He loved their unborn child. He turned his face to the door as the doctor entered. After a few minutes, it was time to give birth to King Jade's son. The peaceful, sleeping face of the newborn baby left the King speechless. Hesitantly, gently, carefully, he picked his son up and swayed a little bit. From the hospital bed, the Queen gave a light chuckle, looking at the glow on her husband's face. "Honey, breathe!" The king realized that he had been holding his breath. He came over to her and gave her a kiss on the forehead. "Thank you so much Nora. Thank you for loving me and giving me the greatest pleasure of this universe." Tears of happiness fell from Nora's eyes. "Don't be silly, Max. I love you with all my heart." The King smiled a genuine smile and kissed her on the forehead again. The new parents looked at their baby again, as he shifted slightly in his sleep. Nora reached a hand out and played with one of the tiny hand, marveling at the wonderful miracle. The Queen looked around and saw that the room was empty. "Max," she began, but the King didn't listen. He was too busy being with his baby, cooing at him, begging him almost to open his eyes and just look at his father. "Max!" the King jumped, startled, gently pressing the baby to his chest in a protective manner. He was overwhelmed with a feeling he hadn't ever felt before. It was the feeling of being a father. Max basked in it. "Max, why aren't my parents here?" Nora was exhausted but somehow was managing to stay awake. She wanted to see her parents. "They just reached the hospital, babe. I told them that we were having the baby today just a couple hours back due to the RE-EDIT fools." He shook his head in anger. Suddenly, the door burst open and in came the Queen's parents. "Mom! Dad!" She exclaimed, giving them an awkward side hug. But none of them cared, as the baby in Max's arms was the center of main focus. "Oh my... he is gorgeous! And look at his hands! His cute little baby hands! Aw!" Nina, Nora's mother cooed at the newborn, giving him her finger to hold, which the baby did, still in his sleep, making everybody fall in love with him a bit more. Nina's husband, James was not far behind in adding his affections, taking the baby from Max. "This almost reminds me of when I first held you when you were born, Nora. Max," James turned towards his son-in-law and gave him a pat on his back, after passing on the baby to Nora, making both the new-parents grin big. "I am proud of the both of you." Nora glowed with happiness. She looked down at her son and lightly traced the mole just above his upper lip, which matched his father. The baby opened his eyes and the mother could finally see the gorgeous green eyes, which matched her own. He is the perfect combination of the both of us. As the baby looked at her, he smiled. His toothless smile would be the one she will remember always. She mentally promised herself to always put her son first and provide him with everything that he would desire. Who knew, her happiness would be short lived. The door of the spacious hospital room burst open and in hurried the doctor who had helped the Queen. "King Max and Queen Nora, you must evacuate immediately. The security cameras are showing that RE-EDIT are outside the gates and that they are armed!" The King's eyes widened in fear. They are armed? How did they find us here? He was panicking. The whole matter of the Queen's pregnancy was kept under hush. Only his family members knew. Oh my god! That means there is a traitor in my family! But the King was not able to think about it anymore when he heard the Queen panic. "No! No! No!" She kept repeating while clutching her baby to her chest, tears coming out of her eyes. She was looking at the bundle of joy in her arms. The baby made another sound, shifted and then went back to sleep. Everything was going so fine in her world...why does someone always have to ruin it? The King looked her and then at the baby once again, who was still not named and made a quick decision. A decision which changed history. A decision which changed their life. A decision which changed my life. I am Derek Jordan, and this is my story.
