Chapter 15: Backstory 1.0 "Please Victoria. I need answers." I was sitting on the edge of the bed, my hands clasping each other and my elbows on my spread knees. She had just come out of the bathroom and was drying her long hair in front of the small mirror in the room. Once again, my eyes trailed down her profile. She was wearing a slinky satiny red dress which made her look delicate like a glass. She had a killer body. Her eyes shifted from the mirror to me, assessing my attire, making me look down at what I was wearing. The black shirt was a little too tight on me, but the jeans was perfect. I shifted in my seat when she smiled at me. From the bag she had earlier, she took out a red lipstick and started putting it on. "What do you want to know?" "Everything!" I burst. Victoria raised her eyebrows at me from the mirror but didn't turn around. There was no stopping me now. "I want to know the reason why my parents were murdered. I want to know the reason why I am separated from my brother and I want to know the reason why my house is gone. I want to know...please." The last word came as a cry for help. Victoria sighed. "It is not going to be pretty." She warned. I still nodded. I had to know now; it was time. She took a seat on one of the chairs in the room. "How much do you know about King and Queen Jade?" She asked. "King and Queen Jade? What do they have to do with this?" I furrowed my brow. "Well, for starters, they are your biological parents." What? I blinked. "I am being serious right now. Please Victoria this is no time for games." "What do you know about King and Queen Jade, Derek?" she persisted. I searched my brain for information on the royal couple. "They are the royals in Europe. They do a lot of philanthropy work. That is all I know." Victoria sighed, "You should read the papers now and then, you know. Your general awareness is terrible." I suddenly flash-backed to when I was joking around with Trent and Melissa. Was it really a couple weeks ago? Before I could spiral out, I had to ground myself. "You said that they were my biological parents. How could that be? My parents are Karen and Sam Jordan." "18 years ago, King and a very pregnant Queen Jade were on a charity mission here in California due to the floods." She took out a phone from the white bag and switched it on. Unlocking it, she began to type something on it. It was a while before she handed the phone to me, a picture on the screen. It was a picture of two people, a recognized couple, King Maximus and Queen Noralei Jade. It was a picture where both were smiling and donating a grocery kit to a homeless person. It looked genuine, not a picture which paparazzi take. I noticed how pregnant Queen Noralei looked, as her hand was rested on her stomach. Victoria took a seat beside me. She swiped to the next picture. It was a shot of them both, smiling and waving to someone in a car. I studied how similar my hair looked to King Max's. But my real mom Karen, who had blonde hair and my real father who had black hair, even a gene pool mix of them could make their offspring have brown hair, right? I tried to rack my brain trying to remember all the DNA basics I had studied last year, while still looking down at the picture. "It wasn't public news that they had come to California. However, Queen Noralei went into labor a couple of weeks early into her pregnancy. So instead of flying back to Europe, they decided to have the baby here, as it was the most logical thing to do." She scrolled to the next image which was a document of some sort. I scrutinized it, realizing it was a birth certificate. I noticed the date to be the same birth date as mine. It was at this time that I decided to speak up. "King and Queen Jade do not have any children." I told her, watching as she shook her head. "They do. You are their child. You are a Jade."
