Chapter 13: Decline

Chapter 13: Decline We were flying... We were flying towards the stars... But then we reached the peak, and it felt like the time had stopped. We were midair, and I wondered if it would have felt like this, if gravity didn't exist. It was such a strange feeling...being weightless. The cruise ship was vertically below us and the twinkling stars were above. It was a shot, straight out of the movies. But alas, my life is anything but. And I realized that quickly once we started to descend. Closer and closer to the other part of the inclined road...I closed my eyes tightly. I didn't want to see what would happen next, for fear had already gripped me hard. Adrenaline was pumping through my veins. I had a passing thought that I am not equipped to deal with all this action. Then, BAAM!!! My eyes flew open as the car's front half collided with the road and sent both Victoria and me flying forwards in our respective seats. While my head bumped with the dashboard, hers banged with the steering wheel, letting the horn blow for a couple of seconds before it was abruptly cut off. What kind of car doesn't have an airbag? Even though this car looked expensive, it had no airbags. Raw pain erupted from my head as I tried to move backwards in my seat, my eyes hazy with tears. It hurt too much. I looked at Victoria, fighting her own tears caused by the pain, tried to gain control of the car as it swerved a bit, slightly accelerating due to the downward decline and of course, gravity. I held my breath and my seat tightly, thinking of the worst-case scenario, like the car suddenly erupting into flames and killing us both, but eventually, Victoria was successful in making the car do her bidding. However, we were at 55 mph and still barreling towards the gate on this side of the bridge. I assume the personnel working there must have seen us approach, for the gates opened without us even stopping, to let us pass. As we made our way back into civilization, I looked at the tall buildings, the empty streets and the streetlights which were shutting off one by one as it began to come to dawn. I tried to gain some semblance of where I was and what just happened. I blinked, my mind drawing a blank, but the painful throb ever present. From my peripherals, I saw my companion look at me, probably wondering why the hell I wasn't shouting, heck--I wonder why the hell wasn't I shouting. But honestly, I couldn't muster up the energy required. I was tired. I closed my eyes as the first rays of the sun hit me, my body finally collapsing after all it had been through in one night. I worried about Cam and myself. What would happen next? Why did Victoria and Andre need us? Our family held no connections to a mafia or a gang and it's not like any of us witnessed something-that-shouldn't-have-been-witnessed. Great, now I make the mafia sound like Voldemort. As my mind was shutting down, I mustered up some energy to talk and cracked open one of my eyes half an inch. I was almost sure that after the pains she went through to get me here, alive, she wouldn't just kill me in my sleep. Almost. "We need to talk. Please." She looked over to me, the red streak in her hair looking orange in the early morning rays. She bit her lip and reached out a hand and pulled down the sun visor for me, so I didn't have the sun hitting my face directly and turned back to focus on the road. I heard her soft voice almost as I dozed off. "Rest now, Princy. We will talk when you wake up."
