Gold's POV
' you're lucky your titanic didn't sink.'
The card read.
Now that was getting me really worried. That person must be messing with my mind. Who could it be that is keeping a close watch on me and knows my every move? I mean no one knew that Pete and I had begun dating except both of us. Not even our friends. Then a light bulb appeared in my head as I thought about it through my chores. It might be Kyle's or Trice's doing. But why would they want to do that? Kyle clearly told me he would pose no problems to me. on the other hand Trice didn't even know about Pete and I besides she would not want to hurt me like that. Was there anyone else who would not want me dating Pete? Why would they do this now? My thoughts kept going on and on
That person must be very interesting because they keep sending their messages in a very ironic and cryptic form. Were they watching me? how did they know I was on a ferry? I took the card inside and carefully placed it inside a box, the same one I put in the first card, in my closet.
Trice came over to visit me, later in the day, after we had a conversation on phone. I did not know how to face her, the scenery was awkward for a while or maybe I was the only one feeling awkward not until she asked me what was going on in my head.
"I am going out with Pete" I speed talked while closing my eyes. There was silence, I could almost hear my heart pounding in my chest. I opened my eyes one after the other to meet Trice smiling.
"What, why are you smiling?" I asked, extremely confused. "What, what were you expecting?" She shot back, still smiling.
Never have I ever been able to get a glimpse of what is going on in the head of my friend and that moment was one of those times.
" You know, getting mad, yelling, a slap to my face, a punch maybe, anything but smiling like that. That is your creepy smile, Trice." I said in a small voice.
" Slap you? Never, about getting mad? I've gotten over it already." She explained "You knew?" I asked, feeling a bit better.
"Yeah, Pete himself said he isn't interested in me, so I have no choice but to back off. I know you liked him too and you were trying to avoid him but. The heart wants what it wants my dear friend. So chill."
Trice said, nudging my arm.
I let out a breath I never knew I was holding and gave her a hug. Just the my phone rang. It was Pete. I looked at trice
"act as though I'm not here" she said waving her hand.
I picked the call Pete and I talked about the school break, the shawl, the date and the dress.
" Did your secret admirer hit you up again?" He asked with the amusement clear in his voice.
" Nope. He needs time to heal from the toe crushing he received yesterday" I said laughing.
"You're sly." Pete said.
He asked if I would be available throughout the break period. I told him I would, he was getting excited. When I asked him what was getting him excited he told me not to worry. He said he was picking me up tonight.
" If you plan on spending like yesterday, then find another girl." I said to him.
" What kind of girl doesn't love spending money or being spent on ?" He asked, laughing.
" This one right here" I said pointing to myself even though I knew he couldn't see me.
" I'm picking you up nevertheless. Same time." He said.
" Trice sends her regards." I chipped in. There was silence on both sides of the line. "Okay send mine to her too." He finally said and hung up.
"I told you to act like I'm invisible." She said, smacking my shoulder playfully.
"You know I don't listen to you, he sends his regards nevertheless. And you are welcome." I said.
"I have some movies to watch," Trice said in a sing-song voice.
"Your choice of movies usually sucks, what did you bring anyway?" I said, shaking my head.
"Geez, yet today I brought a Marvel's, you love action don't you?" she said bringing out her PC. I sprinted to the kitchen to get some snacks while Trice got us setup.
A few minutes into the movie I got a call from my mum. She asked me to come back home. I complained about not being informed earlier and then the break wasn't even a long one, she pointed out that it's not even mid day yet that I could still make it, it's just a three hour journey.
" I've missed you." My mum said. That was all it took for me to bunk everything else and set on my way back to my home in the city that I grew up in. I explained everything to Trice, she even accompanied me to the bus station where I boarded the bus. She watched the bus leave.
On my way, I told Pete what happened, he was disappointed at first but stated that it was okay I went. He promised to call, text, and video call me frequently and I knew he would. I missed him even before the journey began.
I have always loved traveling by bus as a kid, I recall how I used to imagine and act like I am in a music video by leaning on the window while it rained. I smiled to myself at the thought of it. Just when I was about enjoying the ride, the driver did not let that happen. He earned himself cusses from other people in the bus because of how reckless he was, he beat the speed limit, and could not even maneuver any potholes on the road he would drive straight into them. He blared the rock music from his stereo to the very top volume. The whole bus was in chaos. Despite all the commotion there was a huge figure wearing all black clothes, a T-shirt, Jean, black boots and a reversed black hoodie at the back seat, slumping in the seat such that his head was well balanced on the back of the seat, his legs were long and sprawled out, giving him a comfortable position to sleep in. I do not know who it was because he reversed the hoodie such that it covered his face. He was very undisturbed by the chaos but It was getting out of hand and I was getting a headache. If no one would do something, I would.
I walked up to the driver and asked him to drive carefully or turn off the music at least.
"Get the hell out of here b***h, back to your seat!" He yelled at me.
If he wasn't behind the wheel he would have been slapped by me. I don't spare insolence even from an adult. I freed my right hand to turn down the volume and my left hand was still holding onto the pole beside him. Once he noticed me reducing the volume, he swung the wheel left and that got me swaying dangerously, I almost hit the door. If that happened I would have been rolling out on the road, badly hurt or dead, but a strong arm blocked any further motion of my body. When I steadied, I discovered it was Chris Chevron, my course mate, with a black hoodie hat dangling from his chest.
"Chris!" I exclaimed. "That's no way to treat a lady, Let's be gentle now shall we?" Chris said in a faked husky voice. Then he held my hand.
For some reason, the old man suddenly became polite and apologized to Chris and I, reduced the volume and then the speed of the vehicle. The rest of the journey was calm while I discovered that Chris is also from heading my way and he is going home for the break too. I asked his address and we are just a few blocks from each other. Moon street block forty-six and mine is block forty-nine. We talked about other things for the rest of the journey as he teased me for being the girlfriend of one of the hotties on campus.
We arrived in the little noisy city and found our way to our different destinations and promised to see each other.
I arrived home and received the warmest welcome that only home can offer.
I hoped to meet everyone in good shape when I return and I got exactly that.
Now my hopes and prayers are to meet the friends I left behind in good condition
and to stop getting cards with the thriller font.
