I sat on the balcony chair, lost in thought, staring out at the fading light. Memories flooded my mind, and I was taken back to a day that still lingered in my heart. I was seven or eight years old, and my mom had asked me to prepare hot water for my little sister, who was just over two years old at the time.
I remember it like it was yesterday. I was a busy kid, always on the go, and my sister was my world. I loved taking care of her, even if it meant doing chores like fetching hot water. That day, I had been playing around the house, and my mom reminded me to check if the water is boiling, but I was the girl that like doing what pass her I quickly grabbed the kettle and headed to the bathroom.
In my excitement, I lost focus, and the scorching hot water spilled all over me. I felt like I was on fire, the pain searing through my skin. I screamed, and my mom rushed to my side, panic etched on her face. She quickly wrapped me in a blanket, trying to soothe me, but the burn was too much.
The memories of that day are still vivid – the sound of my mom's frantic voice, the smell of burnt skin, and the overwhelming feeling of helplessness. I was just a kid, and I didn't know how to process what had happened.
Looking back, I realize how much my mom must have gone through, caring for me after the accident. She was my rock, always there to comfort me, even when I didn't think I needed it. As I sat on that balcony, I couldn't help but feel grateful for her love and care.
I still see the scar on my stomach and the memory comes flashing by, I realized that doing what you were not told to do, comes with consequence.
I want to share this story as a reminder that our experiences shape us, but they don't define us. We can rise above our circumstances, no matter how difficult they may seem. And to my mom, I say thank you – thank you for being my guiding light, my protector, and my constant source of love and support."
