I snorted softly, turning back to the sink and splashing cold water on my face. “Oh, that’s right. You and I have so many agreements, Victoria,” I said dryly. “What would I do without your constant reminders?"
Her smile tightened. “It’s just... surprising you’re still here, that’s all. Wouldn’t it be easier to go back to Silver Creek? Start fresh, away from the embarrassment?”
I met her gaze through the mirror, my expression calm but edged with steel. “Embarrassment? The only embarrassing thing I see is how much effort you waste pretending Alexander’s interest in you is more than an old habit. And in case you’ve forgotten, Victoria, every so-called resource Alexander uses is still technically under my authority. At least until this bond is officially severed.”
