The weight of Alexander’s calm, authoritative voice carried through the comms crystal. “Grace, authorize the transaction,” he said again, his tone sharp but controlled.
A bitter laugh formed in the back of my throat, though I didn’t let it out. I clutched the crystal tightly, the edges pressing into my skin. Did he even hear himself? Did he comprehend what he was asking, or how it sounded?
