CHAPTER 31 I CREPT CLOSER to the dark figure. Who was it? Or rather, what was it? I got near enough to poke it with my foot, and it keeled over sideways, furry legs sticking up in the air. After two attempts, I got my key in the lock and opened the door. Light flooded out. A giant teddy bear lay sprawled on the floor, looking like a murder victim. All that was missing was the chalk outline. I detached the frilly heart it was holding in its outstretched hands and read the message. Callista, You will always be my one true love, Bryce. Oh, please. I threw it down in disgust. But what the hell was I meant to do with the oversized monster? The bear was bigger than me and weighed about as much too. I couldn’t leave it in the hallway.
