I CREPT CLOSER to the dark figure. Who was it?
Or rather, what was it?
I got near enough to poke it with my foot, and it keeled over sideways, furry legs sticking up in the air.
After two attempts, I got my key in the lock and opened the door. Light flooded out. A giant teddy bear lay sprawled on the floor, looking like a murder victim. All that was missing was the chalk outline.
I detached the frilly heart it was holding in its outstretched hands and read the message.
