CHAPTER FOUR. FIRST ENCOUNTER

Caleb Cooper "guess she really dumped me didn't she?" I saw a flick of sadness pass through Laura's eyes before it was replaced with a tight smile. I knew she was trying to make me feel better, but she had been joking about it for the past week and a half. It's been that long since Luna dropped the bomb of breaking up with me, and I still haven't accepted it. I didn't believe she would do that to me, I mean she wouldn't. She had said she liked me, a lot. That I mattered to her. The was no no way she would break up with me, especially not through the phone. Luna was a straight forward person, she would face me and tell me. She would never... The more I tried to convince myself that she wouldn't the more it actually broke my heart. The past week has been a really hell hole for me, trying to find a reason why she would just leave like that, a reason she wouldn't want me anymore. I tried to reminisce where I could have gone wrong during our dates, but nothing came to me. Because all I did was cherish her, I knew I wasn't enough but I wasn't that bad of a boyfriend to Luna. I wanted her to call me so bad, to tell me it was just a prank, that it was a joke and she had gone somewhere for family purposes. But after a week, even my stubborn mind had to accept the fact that she was not coming back to me. I looked at Laura "do you think she is at her house? I mean she could be there waiting for me, waiting to tell me it was a joke" even that didn't convince me. "Caleb..." she took my hand and squeezed it gently. I could feel the tears that were threatening to come out of my eyes but I blinked them back. I didn't want to cry. Crying meant I was accepting everything. I didn't want to accept it, yet. Not until I heard it from her that she was really done with me. I sighed. "let's go drink tonight" Matt suddenly suggested picking up his back. We all stared at him "what? This down mood is getting to me too. Plus Caleb could really use a drink or two with loud music" "Caleb doesn't drink Matt" "let's go" they all looked at me like I had said something weird. Well it was considering I haven't gone out with them for almost 2 years now. But drinking sounded like a great idea right now. I didn't want to hall myself up in my sorrows. "plus it's a Friday, what could go wrong?" But everything could go wrong! I was ready to s**t my pants by the time I was standing in front of the club in my faded khaki thigh shorts, black long sleeve t-shirt, black hoodie and black vans. Don't get me wrong, I didn't choose my outfit, Laura did. Saying my legs looked great in really short shorts. I felt so exposed that walking felt hard. and adding social anxiety to that mixture wasn't helping my situation. But still here I was, in front of the hot clubs in town with my three friends who were already drunk. They scram as it reached our turn to go inside. I felt like I didn't belong at all. All this was new to me. I just pulled my hoodie to my face and followed the guys inside. We were hit by a gush of hot air and loud music as soon as we got inside and I almost turned back if Laura hadn't grabbed my hand and rushed us straight to the counter. "three shots of taquila and a Margherita!" she shouted at the bar man due to music. But he still managed to hear her and gave her a smile. He brought the shots and one cup with a straw. She handed the cup to me, I looked at her with a surprise. "don't worry, those won't do anything to you. They are low on alcohol so you are good" I frowned because she was shouting directly in my ear, making sure to get rid of my hoodie in the process. I just have her a smile and grabbed the cup. The three of them took the shots like they were drinking water. I don't even know how much they had been drinking but it was enough to make a grown man sing out loud. "we will be on the dance floor, remember to relax!" Matt said then dissappeared into the dance floor with Louis. Laura looked at me and smiled. "am grad you joined us today Caleb, just forget everything for today and have fun. Am sure Luna is having fun wherever she is OK?" I have her a reassuring smile and nodded. I sipped the drink and to my surprise it was really sweet. "like it?" a male voice asked me and I looked up, it was the bar man. He gave me a weird smirk with a raised brow. Wasnt he supposed to be serving customers? But my polite side kicked in and I smiled at him "yeah, it's sweet" I replied "not much of a drinker are you?" "no, just happened to find myself here baby sitting three adults" I joked and he smiled turning to serve a guy three sits away from me. "I told you looked good" this time Laura whispered in my ear "what? Why?" I asked not understanding where all this is coming from. "look at you, even guys are hitting on you. you are so oblivious" she laughed and I gave her a friendly punch on the shoulder. "that guy wasn't hitting on me" "so innocent" I looked at the bar man and he winked at me which made me flinch. Wait, what? Was he really...? I gulped, hard then sipped my cocktail making sure I faced the dance floor this time with a super flushed face. A guy was hitting on me? Why? Don't get me wrong, am not homophobic or anything, it's just weird for a straight guy like me to experience something like that. I finished my drink and started looking around. The club was filled to the brim, with a lot of people on the dance floor, dancing and groping each other. Not something I was fond of, but it was taking my mind off a lot of thinking. "I will be right back" Laura said not even looking at me. I followed her gaze and my eyes landed on Branden, her new buff guy. He was just entering the club with his friends. She walked to him and I saw him smile as he saw her and hugged her. Yeah, there was no way she was coming right back. But I smiled knowing my bestfriend was happy like that. she never stopped talking about him after she broke up with Joshua, and it did seem like he was treating her right. My eyes continued to wonder around taking in every corner of the club till I raised them to look at the vip booth. It was on top, covered with see-through glass. What I didn't expect was to catch eyes with a man that had been looking in my direction too. My breath hitched at the sight, but I didn't look away, nor did he, instead I narrowed my eyes to look even closer. It wasn't every day that another guy appreciates a sculpture of another guy but here I was. Even at a distance I could tell me man was good looking, dressed in a blue suit. he looked powerful even in a distance like that, with his gaze not wavering, locking with mine. We both didn't look away till I felt a tug on my back, I turned. It was the bar man, I looked at him as he handed me another cup of Margherita. "I didn't order this" I said pushing the cup back to him. But he pushed it back to me, making sure his fingers grazed mine in the process. I shrugged and took my hand right away in the most polite way possible. "I know" he started then pointed at someone "it's from that guy over there" my eyes darted to where he was pointing and there on a private booth sat a man in a reddish suit not hiding the fact that he was staring at me and giving me a really creepy grin. My body shuddered and I felt goosebumps on my arm. Just a minute ago I was ok with a man staring at me and I stared back but having a creed grown ass man do that made me gurgle. He wasn't old, just maybe in his mid 40s, but that was enough for me to say he was a grown ass man. He waved at me and I turned right away acting as if I didn't notice. I looked at the bar man. "no thanks?" it came out more like a question. "I don't want another drink" "you are not into men are you?" he asked giving me a smile which wasn't perverted this time. "was it obvious?" I tried to act coy but he just chuckled. "just take the drink, it will be on the house. I will tell him to f**k off" I gave him a genuine smile this time taking the drink. "is that even allowed" "the owner isn't going to make a loss because I gave a friend a drink" "should I be honored?" "haha" he gave me another wink before going to the other side of the counter. This time I didn't hate that wink. To think two men would hit on me the same night was really surprising though. I searched the dance floor for my friend's faces but didn't see one. Figured it was high time I went home. I finished my drink, involuntarily granced to the vip floor one more time but he wasn't standing there anymore. Then i walked outside of the club I was almost surprised by the cold night that welcomed me. I turged on my hoodie and held it closer to me before I started walking to get a taxi back home. The night was so quite I felt relaxed. I was really grad cause for a second I forgot about everything. I was lost in my thoughts when someone grabbed my shoulder and I jumped on instinct. I turned and it was two guys. I recognized the shorter one as the man who was trying to get me a drink earlier, the other one was taller and bulkier, but still looked to be the same ages. "oh what do we have here? You were right about this one Mr brown" the bulkier one said. And adrenaline was starting to kick inside me, something was telling me I shouldn't stay there for too long. "my eyes are never wrong, where are you going boy?" the shorter man asked coming close to me but I backed up "you don't have to have your guard up, we don't bite" "ummh, how can I help you?" "where are you going? We will drop you" "No thanks, I will get a taxi" I started to go but I was grabbed by my hair and yanked hard that my back hit the bulky man's chest. I groaned from the pain of my hair being yanked like that. I tugged on the hand that wasn't letting my hair go. The shorter man came in front on me. "now now that was rude wasn't it? We just want to talk with you. Don't be like that" "what the f**k do you want!?" I shouted out loud when the grip on my hair tightened and I gripped on the man's hand. how could another man overpower me like that? "why don't you come with us hmm? Let's not make a scene here?" "the f**k? no, let me go" What I wasn't expecting was the slap across my face and the loud cry that was being held in my throat came out. But at the same time the bulky man closed my mouth with a really smelly hand that if I wasn't in a situation like this, I would have thrown up. What did they even want from a guy like me? And two of them for that matter. I didn't have money if they were thugs. "let the boy go" We all turned to the deep voice that vibrated in the cold night. How could someone have such amazing deep voice? In the darkness stood a tall figure but I couldn't make out the face before of the dackness and the hand on my mouth. "who is there?" Mr short one asked "just pass along, you have no business here" But the guy didn't say anything, instead he walked closer to the short guy and I almost laughed with how scrumpy the guy looked from being towered over. Even I was no where near that guy. "you want to ask me that again?" the guy asked and I saw fear on the short guys face. "I will say it one more time, let the boy go" his voice came out with venom this time that even I shuddered but am sure it wasn't from fear. My eyes were glued to the guy I even almost forgot I was being held captive till the bulky guy let go of me and I fell to the ground because my legs gave out. I didn't even know I was scared like this, but I could feel that my body was trembling. Oh God what could have happened to me? If this guy hadn't shown up what could have happened to me? Would they have? Oh God! "can you stand up?" I shivered, I had forgotten about my sorroundings. I looked up and for the first time I saw the face of my savior. It was the guy from the vip booth!!
