ALISON POV
It had been two days since the whole wedding ordeal,to say Alison had been embarrassed would be a great understatement. Chloe tried to console her and stayed with her the whole night constantly repeating to her that Max wasn't worth it. Alison knew he wasn't worth it but that didn't make her less heartbroken and less hurt. Alison told Chloe to go home and get some rest the next day.Chloe was adamant and refused to leave, but Alison stood her ground, telling her she needed space to think and recuperate.
After Chloe left, Alison kept thinking about different things like where the signs there, and she didn't see them?was that his intention from the start, to make her love him only to be left at the alter ?,How could she have been such a fool. She cried her eyes out all night, holding on to a shirt he left in the laundry basket he forgot to pack.
By day three Alison was filled with rage and anger, she began clearing the apartment of Max's things. He had packed up most of his items before she came back from the wedding garden but some few items were still there, like his oversized joggers and sweatshirt, some of his favorite books and his leftover perfumes, the house still smelled like him,she began packing all his stuffs including the bedspread they both slept on, anything that was a constant reminder of him was gone.
Alison decided to redecorate the apartment by day four despite being broke. She used her last cash to get couples of paint, plastic sheets and a new bedspread. She painted the whole house until her hand was numb and she felt like she was going to faint before remembering she had a coffee shop in need of her attention. Alison was so burnt out she fell asleep immediately she jumped on her bed.
By day five she decided to go back to her daily life and routine, she woke up and got dressed to go to the coffee shop,it wasn't too far away from her apartment just a few miles, she took a cab and within ten minutes she was at her destination but what Alison wasn't expecting to see was a letter underneath the door requesting she comes to the courthouse as her attention was needed.
She went to the courthouse as requested and was asked to wait for a couple of minutes, minutes turned into hours, out of anger and frustration she was about to leave when the secretary called her into her boss office. Alison greeted the bald man in a suit and rounded frame glasses with a handshake who reciprocated and told her to take a seat.
“Do you know what you are here Mrs Wilson” the bald man who Alison presumed to be a lawyer asked.
“Am I in trouble for something” she replied. In all honesty Alison didn't want to come, she just wanted to have a quiet day in her coffee shop and come up with ideas and plans that best suited the place and think of ideas to get money.
“It is about your coffee shop” Now this got Alison's attention, her face turned serious and she was starting to fidget.
“What about my coffee shop” she said trying to hide the fear in her voice, when lawyers got involved in new businesses she knew enough to know it wasn't going to be about something good.
“ It says here that someone by the name Maxwell Steel sold it to a potential buyer, since you are aware of this transaction, we would like you to leave your keys behind, since the buyer wants things done easy and simple, I trust that won't be a problem Mrs Wilson”.
Alison was beyond shocked, she hadn't been aware of this.Maxwell sold her coffee shop .He knew how much she invested into that place and he sold it and took the money without looking back, Alison started laughing manically. The man in front of her looked at her like she had gone crazy but she didn't care, she kept laughing till tears fell from her eyes. Of course he did, then the tears rush out from her eyes, the man silently passed her a tissue, she took her time to wipe her tears before responding.
“Are my signatures on the papers?”. The lawyer passed the document to her and she saw her signature boldly on each document. She had been a fool for love. Max brought in some documents the week before their marriage claiming they were just procedures we needed to take to make sure our coffee shop was insured.
Alison dropped the keys to the coffee shop on the table and thanked the lawyer, at this point she wouldn't be surprised if she was told that her apartment lease had expired since her boyfriend came to ask for the rest of the rent but luckily for Alison, that didn't happen.
A week had gone by and Alison was broke, depressed and out of job. She was contemplating going back to her hometown to meet her parents since she hit rock bottom but couldn't bring herself to do it. She didn't want her parents to see their only daughter like this,so she opted for another option,to get a job.
Alison kept scrolling up and down the internet for any job vacancies available. She got tired after a lot of tries and retired for the night, hoping to continue tomorrow.
The next day rolled around and Chloe came to visit. She complimented Alison on the apartment's new-look saying she loved it and Alison blushed in return. Alison told her about how Max sold the coffee shop and Chloe was in shock. She kept asking Alison how she was holding up, Alison said she would survive and told Chloe about her attempt to look for a job, Chloe got all wide eye and told Alison about how her boyfriend went to meet the mysterious man at her wedding who was in a tuxedo and a sunglasses and he gave him his card,so she could try out her luck with him.
Alison was skeptical about going to meet a friend of Max for a job,she kept staring at the card Chloe gave her and was contemplating on what to do,did she really have a choice, she was a twenty six years old single, broke and out of job lady who needed to get her s**t together, she typed in the company’s name and saw a massive firm with an interview for a vacant position set the next day.
The next day,Alison got dressed in her most official gown and went to the company which was quite far away from her place of residence, but nonetheless she wasn't going to be stopped by that. She walked in and sat down in anticipation for her interview among a long line of people who were also waiting. Hopefully
it goes well, she thought to herself.
