011. Lucky?

Alexa "Can you please suck in your stomach, Luna?" Lucy asked as she held my dress' corset rope tightly. Nana was also present, adjusting my fitting. "I can't breathe, Lucy. Can't we get something different?" My stomach was sucked in, as I gasped for breath. "Luna, we cannot try something unconventional," Lucy said as she gave the dress one last tug, tying the ropes beautifully underneath. "I will leave now, Lucy." My blonde-haired maid said as she left. "I’d be back in a bit," she added before disappearing. I stared at my reflection in the mirror. The velvet green dress with a heart neckline fit perfectly, flattering my curvaceous hips. My waist was in pain. I could hardly feel it. "Oh, you look so pretty, Alexa," Nana praised as she hugged me. "Nana, please stop," I said, my brows arching at the effect of her tight hug. "I can't breathe," I added with a sad smile. "I don't even think I can walk in this," I muttered as I took a few careful steps in the gown. "What are you doing, Nana?" I smiled at her behavior as she tiptoed like a thief, locking my chamber door. She quickly loosened the rope strands and told me to take a deep breath, pushing my tummy forward. "Huff," I sighed in relief. "Better now?" Her brown puppy eyes stared into my blue orbs, her smile infectious. "Yes, Nana. Thank you," I replied, running my hands over my now free stomach. "It doesn't look so bad. I bet Lucy wouldn't notice," she smiled as she adjusted my gown. "Thank you, Nana. I wouldn't know what to do without you." "Why are you looking at me like that?" I asked as she continued gazing at me. "Aren't you lucky, Alexa?" A small chuckle escaped my lips. "Lucky? What do you mean by that?" Nana threw herself onto the bed. "I mean, look at your life—so perfect. You have maids answering to your every beck and call." She gestured with her hands, laughing. She was my personal dose of laughter. "I'm serious, Alexa. You also got the chance to be Luna twice in this life," she continued. "And now, you are not just any Luna. You are Luna to Alpha Kendell, the most powerful Alpha in all the packs." "I never chose any of this, and believe me, if I had a chance, I would never be here." "Luna, are you done?" Lucy's sharp voice cut through the air. "Uh, yes, Lucy. Almost." I adjusted myself one last time. My hair was pulled back into a low ponytail with a golden crown on my head. Lucy had done a great job hiding my dark circles. Nana opened the door for Lucy, and with one final huff, we all left. ... The life I had once left came running back to me. "Do you agree with me?" The little voice of the Crimson Pack's Luna distracted me. "Yeah, yeah," I responded, even though I couldn't recall what she had said. Silver Wolves were indeed beauty I was just getting accustomed to. The celebration was being held in a garden, the grass well-manicured. The clinking of glasses filled the atmosphere, and food was carried back and forth. I spotted Rose giving out orders to some maids. When her eyes caught mine, she smiled. Everyone was dressed in their finest. From the royal embroidered dress of Chlad to the exquisite layered gowns of Crimson, the sight was breathtaking. I gulped down the drink I had taken from one of the passing servers with trays. My hands trembled slightly as I held the glass, my eyes darting around the crowd, searching for Norman. If the Bright Claw Pack had been attending this event for over twenty years, who represented our pack? "That's wrong, you know?" A lady from among the group of Lunas I sat with corrected. "What's wrong?" I asked the light-skinned lady with green eyes and a black dress. "Holding a wine glass that way," she retorted as she picked up her own glass. "You aren't supposed to hold onto its body, but by the stem." She gestured. "Come on, didn't you learn anything from your etiquette classes?" she added, and a few from among them—probably her friends—laughed lightly. I hadn't noticed I held the glass wrongly, but I wasn't in the mood for her. "Thank you for your correction," I said, giving a smile that didn't reach my eyes. "Are you sure you're supposed to be here?" one of them laughed. "This space is specifically for Lunas, and I don't think I've seen you here before." "Yes, you're right," they started to whisper. "An introduction I have to make, but didn't." I huffed as I stared at them. "I am—" my voice was cut off when another interrupted. "Alexa!" she huffed, shock written on her face. "What in the hell's name are you doing here?" She chuckled as if she couldn't believe her eyes. "I thought you were dead or something?" She adjusted her hundred layer gown as she spat on me, before continuing… "Anyway, she is a low-life b***h who likes crashing into parties, insisting she was invited or is supposed to be here by royal insistence." Finally, my long-awaited guests have arrived. "Xena, can we please not do this here?" Her slender fingers collided firmly with my cheek, creating a scene. I held my face, allowing the pain to sink in. Gasps filled the air. "I am your Luna, Alexa," she stated. She twisted her arms across her chest, laughing in satisfaction at her actions. Another gasp filled the air. I had waited and prayed for this day, and it was finally here. Xena's face widened in shock as I gave her a befitting slap across her face. And before she could recover, I gave her another. "How dare you?" Xena retorted, her eyes blazing green as she raised her hand to strike me again. But before she could, a hand held her from behind. A small crowd had started gathering around us. "How dare you raise your filthy hands against the Luna of the Silver Wolves?" Rose's voice called out as she supported herself with her cane. Just then, Lucy and Nana came into view. "Luna, are you okay?" they inspected. "You must be mistaken, ma'am," Xena responded. "This woman over here is a cheap slut who wouldn't hesitate to throw herself at any man," she sneered. A loud smack resounded again—this time from Rose. "How dare you come into our pack to insult our Luna?" Xena let out a tear, her gray eyes stained red as she held her cheek. It was a lovely sight to behold. Just then, his voice resounded through the hallways into the garden. I hadn't seen him all day, and his presence was scarce. Yet, the moment he arrived, his aura filled the air with power. Everyone bowed before him as he walked through—everyone but me. For a moment, I felt a sense of pride to have him by my side as my mate. His golden orbs darted toward me as he walked closer. He turned my face slightly, running his fingers over my cheek. "All rise," he commanded, and everyone did. Xena’s face was still facing the ground. "Let me officially introduce my Luna to you." His face gave nothing away as he clasped my hand tightly. "She is Alexa, my mate and Luna of the Silver Wolves Pack," he announced, a hint of achievement in his voice. Never had Norman shown me off like this, my thought rang. "Your Queen," he added. "All hail Queen Alexa, Her Highness, Luna of the Silver Wolves Pack," the chamber guard announced, and the crowd echoed the words—some reluctantly, but they said them nonetheless. Kendell released my hand and turned to Xena, who still had her head lowered. "Your Highness," she gave a small bow. "A little birdie just called my Luna a slut. Do you know who?" Xena fell to the ground, her hands clutching tightly at her dress. "It was a mistake, Your Highness," she stuttered, fake tears spilling. "A mistake that will not be forgiven," Kendell snapped with finality in his voice.
