Alpha Kingsley’s POV
“Has he paid the money?” I asked Marcus as he looked up from the pack’s financial records.
“Sorry, Alpha, he hasn’t,” Marcus replied, setting the tablet down on the glass table.
I let out a low growl. Alpha Matthew’s loan was a whole month overdue, and he had not sent a single coin. This was not our agreement. He thought he could ignore my calls and hide in his territory like a coward.
“He dares not pay?” I scoffed, my voice dark with anger. “We will pay his pack a visit today. He needs to tell me why he wasn’t answering my calls and why he hasn’t repaid his loan.”
“Okay, Alpha,” Marcus said, standing up from his chair.
I stood as well and made my way toward my bedroom to take a shower before we left. The drive to the Blood Moon Pack was going to be long, and I needed to clear my head.
When I opened the bedroom door, I saw Sophia sitting on the edge of my bed with her long legs crossed. She gave me a slow, seductive smile. Sophia had been my companion for the past two years. She knew what I liked, but right now, I wasn’t in the mood for distractions.
Ignoring her gaze, I began taking off my clothes as I headed toward the bathroom. Before I could reach the door, she stood up and wrapped her arms around me from behind.
“Master, what’s wrong? Did I do something wrong?” she asked in a sweet, gentle voice, resting her cheek against my bare back.
I gently removed her hands and turned to face her, backing her lightly against the wall as I looked into her eyes.
“You did nothing wrong,” I told her, my voice low and firm. “But Master has somewhere to be. Be a good girl and wait for me. When I return, we’ll spend some time together.”
I gave her a playful pat on the hip, earning a soft laugh from her. For a brief moment, I considered staying, but I had important matters to attend to today.
Instead, I leaned down, kissed her on the lips, and let her go. Then I walked into the bathroom, turned on the shower, and took a quick warm bath to ease the tension in my muscles.
When I stepped out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around my waist, Sophia was already asleep on the bed, her small body curled beneath the blankets. I smiled faintly, got dressed in a sharp black suit, and adjusted my wristwatch.
As I walked downstairs, I found my mother sitting in the living room, sipping her morning tea.
“Good morning, Mom,” I said with a small smile.
“Good morning, my son,” she replied, looking up at me over the rim of her teacup. “Going somewhere?”
“Yes,” I answered, stepping closer. I briefly explained Alpha Matthew’s unpaid debt and told her I was going to collect it myself.
Mom nodded slowly. “Be careful. And who knows? You might even find your mate there.”
I smiled and shook my head. “We’ll see what the Moon Goddess has planned for me.”
Deep down, though, I doubted I would find my mate there. Even if she happened to be in that pack, she would probably be Alpha Matthew’s beautiful eldest daughter. Rumor had it he had two daughters. One was said to be breathtakingly beautiful, while the other was… something else entirely. I had never met either of them, but people claimed the younger daughter was troublesome and kept hidden away.
“Let’s go,” I told Marcus, who was waiting by the front door with the car keys.
We walked outside and climbed into the black SUV. The journey to Alpha Matthew’s pack was quiet. I sat in the back seat, staring through the tinted window as the trees rushed past, thinking about all the ways I could make Alpha Matthew regret refusing to repay what he owed me.
When we finally arrived at his pack house, two guards greeted us at the entrance. They looked terrified simply standing in my presence. Without wasting a second, they escorted Marcus and me straight to Alpha Matthew’s private study.
The moment Alpha Matthew saw me walk through the door, all the color drained from his face. He gasped and dropped the pen in his hand.
“Alpha Kingsley! Y-You… you came to visit my pack?” he stammered, trying to sound calm as he settled back into his large leather chair.
“Don’t pretend you don’t know why I’m here,” I said coldly as I walked over and stopped in front of his desk.
Alpha Matthew swallowed hard and looked away.
“Y-Yes… I know.”
“Good,” I growled, resting my hands on my hips. “Now, where is the money?”
His hands trembled as he looked up at me, fear filling his eyes.
“Please… can you give me more time?”
SLAM!
I slammed my fist onto his wooden desk so hard that the ceiling light rattled.
“No more time!” I roared, my voice echoing through the room like thunder. “Your payment is a whole month overdue, and you will repay it today! Otherwise, I will bring your entire pack to its knees before sunset!”
Alpha Matthew began shaking uncontrollably.
“Please, Alpha! Don’t do that! This pack is all I have. My people will have nowhere to go!”
“Then pay your debt,” I demanded, taking another step toward him.
Alpha Matthew stared down at his cluttered desk, gripping its edge with trembling hands. Sweat dripped down his forehead as he drew in a shaky breath, as though preparing to make the hardest decision of his life.
“I… I don’t have the money,” he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper. “But… I can offer you one of my daughters in marriage.”
I paused, leaning back slightly.
“Your daughter?”
He nodded eagerly, a flicker of hope returning to his frightened eyes.
“Yes, Alpha! She will marry you, and her hand in marriage will settle the debt completely.”
A slow, dark smile spread across my face.
So, the old man was willing to trade his own daughter just to save himself.
“Your daughter,” I repeated thoughtfully. “Now we’re getting somewhere.”
I stepped closer, looking down at the broken man behind the desk.
“We’ll finalize the deal today,” I said, my voice as cold as ice. “You give me your daughter in exchange for your debt, and your financial troubles end here.”
Alpha Matthew released a long sigh of relief.
“Thank you, Alpha Kingsley. Thank you. She is yours.”
I turned my back on him and gazed out the study window, my thoughts racing. I had come here expecting gold and money, yet I was leaving with a bride.
Love meant nothing to me.
Romance meant even less.
A deal was a deal.
“Marcus, prepare the contract,” I ordered without looking back. “He’s signing his daughter over to me today.”
What Alpha Matthew didn’t know was that he was about to give away something far more valuable than he could ever imagine.
And once those papers were signed, there would be no turning back for any of us.
