Chapter 13Luke sneaked out the back door of his building. The place was supposed to be alarmed, but the alarm had never worked once in the entire time Luke had lived here. He supposed he should be worried about that, but for now he gave thanks to whichever long-ago student had disabled the thing. It did occur to him, as he crept out into the November darkness, that he shouldn’t have to sneak around like a teenager. He was twenty-one. He was, technically, a business owner. He was the valedictorian of his class and had a good shot at getting into some of the top graduate schools in the country. He shouldn’t be on lockdown. He pushed any resentment out of his mind.
