Chapter 14Evan’s phone went off while he was in the library on Thursday evening, alerting him to an incoming text. He didn’t often work in the library, but Nick was doing an interview on one of those popular late night news shows and Evan wanted to head home with him. It would have been nice to walk home all three together, but it wasn’t an option. He’d asked. Luke had begged off, saying he needed to spend time with his uncle. Evan looked down at his screen. The text was from Luke. At Sophias. Pls come. As texts went, at least from Luke, it was pretty cryptic. Luke’s texts usually read like old man texts—full sentences, punctuation, the whole nine yards. Evan didn’t expect much different from someone who’d been as isolated as Luke had been. Luke must have sent this surreptitiously. Luke
