~IAN~
He stirs, skidding restlessly and anxious.
Goddess no. It's not what I'm thinking.
‘Mine.’ Skal roared in my head, slamming against my ribs so violently I forgot how to breathe. ‘MATE!’
‘W-what’s this?’ I asked Cas through the mind link, clenching my fists on my thighs.
He didn't answer.
When I looked at him, every muscle in his body had gone rigid.
That was our mate. Approaching like she was completely oblivious of the storm she'd just raised.
She stopped beside my window, instantly gracing my nose with all that gorgeous scent.
It was really her. The same Rosalie I'd spent years calling fat and ugly.
A strained smile softened her face as she peeped through the glass. “I really told the Alpha that we could get back on our own. I'm sorry he made you come here.’’
We?
Who's we?
“No, it's uh… it's fine. We're here now.’’ Cas found his voice first, getting out of the car. “Where's your stuff? We'll help you load it…’’
‘‘Oh…’’ She pointed. My gaze followed. There's a man not too far away, leaning on an outdated black Porsche. Hands tucked in his pockets. Chin high, possessive gaze on Rosalie. “Mason and I will ride with that if you'd just lead the way.’’ Rosalie said.
‘‘Who's he?’’ I asked in my wolf's voice, already detesting the idea that she rode back with that lewd man.
The way he stared at her. He didn’t look like some Uber driver, or anyone eager to leave soon enough.
‘‘Oh, Mason?’’
She addressed him in that overly familiar manner again. My jaw hardened.
I thought Cas would try to interrupt, but it seemed he was also curious to hear it. We both could see the douchebag was up to no good.
I smelt the heat radiating off Rosalie as she mustered the courage to speak. ‘‘He's my... boyfriend.’’
The last word echoed in my mind.
Once.
Twice.
Wait, her boyfriend?
Skal snapped at once, and I swung out of the car. She quickly stepped farther away from me. My feet ran cold.
‘‘Rosalie…’’
‘‘He's a human?’’ Cas was faster, knowing how I was about to handle this.
‘‘No. He's a wolf, but not from our pack.’’
‘‘Then why's he f*****g here?’’ I nearly roared.
‘‘Ian.’’ Cas shot me a warning look. Assessing Rosalie now, her fists were tightly clenched. Her gaze stayed down.
‘‘Babe are you okay? What's happening? ’’ A thin baritone voice cut into us. The Mason guy appeared, slipping an arm casually around Rosalie. He pulled her to himself, then stared up at me and Cassian with a cocky smile. ‘‘Hi. Mason.’’
Skal snarled angrily. Disgust flushed through me like broken pipe. I eased forward, but Cassian saw fast and caught my arm.
He was always like this. Choosing to stay calm even in the fiercest of situations. As if that contributed to building pack legacies.
‘Don't be silly man. Someone's trying to steal our mate right before us and you're just gonna keep quiet?’ I snapped through the mindlink.
‘Give it time, brother. I don't think she can feel the bond yet.’ Cas snapped back.
I knew it. He hated this maybe even more than I do. But there's just so much composure inside of him.
And Rosalie might not feel the bond? That made Skal even more restless.
Cas smiled. But it didn't reach his eyes. “I'm Cassian. He's Ian.’’
“Oh. I've heard a lot about you both.” Mason’s smile turned mischievous.
I step back, shifting my gaze to Rosalie. She's turned tomato red which makes her appear even more gorgeous. The answer was there, not far from my guess.
Mason probably thought of us as monsters, and he'd try to play superhero every chance he gets.
Great. This has just gotten more appealing!
‘This is gonna be hard.’ Cas reached out.
‘Tell me something I don't already know.’
‘I need you to stay calm. Trust me Vynx is also going haywire right now but I'm forcing him under control.’
‘You know how Skal can be.’
‘We'll let them ride back together in the Porsche…’
‘The f**k?’
‘It's best that way, Ian. We keep Skal away from her and also get to think this whole damn thing through!’
I scoffed. And I don't even want to think about how Mason raised a brow. The bastard reeked of foreign stench. Not worth my while.
Rosalie meanwhile, hasn't looked up the entire time. I forced my feet back into the car, layering my gaze on the steering wheel while Cas finished up with them.
It's in times like this that I envied him I. My wolf hasn't got such discipline.

~ROSALIE~
I couldn't unhear my name on Ian’s lips.
He has never bothered to address me humanly. Always Omega. Fatty. Ugly.
What changed?
Maturity?
“Hey.’’ Mason touched my back and I flinched. “It's fine now. They're gone.’’
I nodded, and he helped me into car before joining me. We quietly followed the sleek red car. Maybe Cassian or Ian's car, I don't know which.
“I can see the reason you were wary of them.’’ Mason scoffed in a manner I feared might be a bit too confident.
‘‘They're tough men.’’ I half-warned.
‘‘It didn't look like it.’’
‘‘W-what?’’
He snorted, his hands moving professionally on the wheels as he steered into a turn. “All I saw were lusting men’’
My ears stopped.
I opened my mouth to speak, but no words came out. How could he think of such? Even if I were the last girl on earth's surface, Ian and Cassian would never look at me.
I was fat. The total opposite of what a spec is to them. They liked slim girls like Kiara. Then I was an omega, who is in fact wolfless.
I must never let them figure that out. Or they might hang me to my death at this point.
We arrived before large bronze gates, driving into the high fence. I'd spent years living in the mansion but never got the chance to admire it, always stuck running errands in the backyard or trimming grasses at the courtyards. Most especially because I dreaded bumping into anyone. Not only the triplets, Luna Matilda including.
The mansion rose high with tall columns and big glass windows, warm light spilling from the in-built bulbs on the intricate walls.
Serenity.
I inhaled deeply. The smell of home and nostalgia.
Bittersweet emotions sailed through me, and I didn't realise how hard I squeezed my dress. All I could think about was my mother.
I shouldn't get sad now. I was back to find whoever did that to her and make them pay in a grave as well.
The farther we drove, I noticed how busy the mansion seemed. Dressed chairs and special tables moved from the mansion to the fields at the services of deltas and omegas. I knew about the special tables from familiar experiences in the pack.
Was it the mating ceremony? Where we moved those tables wrapped in unique damask cloths, meant for newly found mates to sit and enjoy the rest of the meteor night.
The mating ceremony demanded compulsory attendance for everyone in the pack.
That was fine. I had Mason now. I didn't need to worry about not finding a mate or getting humiliated. I could just tell everyone he was my fated mate and we'd found each other in the human world.
Then no one would know I didn’t have a wolf at twenty plus, or a mate who I don't exactly need anymore. I hope he finds someone he loves like I did with Mason and move on.
We finally stopped. Ian alighted first. This time he didn't wait. He headed straight into the mansion. Unfortunately, time had turned him into the kind of man women stared at.
Cassian led us in to a sitting room, and dumped us after a delta showed up to give him a message. None showed up again afterwards, even when I'd thought I smelt Orsian and my stomach nearly broke.
The next place we found ourselves was the ceremony with guidance from some omegas. I chose to sit in the back with Mason and kept hiding my face in hair halfway into it, although no one would probably easily recognise me.
“If you're so uncomfortable, we could leave.’’ Mason yelled over the noise of the party. He was bored of it too.
I agreed, but leaving together would only spark attention I wouldn't want. Mason suggested he leaves first but I declined. I was the better bait since I knew well around the mansion. I left after describing the way to the training quarters to Mason. I'll wait there.
My stomach loosened from all the stacked up tension when finally I arrived at the quarters. Mason should be here in less than five minutes.
One.
Two.
Heavy footsteps.
I paused, leaning behind just in case it wasn't him. Then he almost walked past.
‘‘Hey!’’ I called in a sharp whisper.
The giggle dried in my throat when the figure stopped. Not Mason. His eyes glowed yellow, like a wolf that finally found what it's been hunting.
I recognised him.
Orsian. Two other figures appeared behind him, their silhouettes mirrored darkly on the floor. His brothers.
My legs fell back heavily, then the next words he said struck me like thunderstorm.
‘‘Mine… Mate.’’
