Chapter 6

Chapter 6 ~CASSIAN~ The whole thing made me wanna go crazy. Vynx is all out, clawing at the inside of my skull like he's gonna break out the next second, whining over and over for a confrontation with her wolf. But the more he tried, the more inaccessible it felt. Does she not have a wolf? No. That was completely absurd. Was her wolf dormant then? Or was she intentionally shielding her away? I thought about all these things while she completely froze after hearing my question, forcing me to believe that absurdity I initially brushed off. I stepped forward to pull her around, making her stare right into my eyes. Fright, shock, and all sorts of frictional emotions stirred in her big green eyes. “Are you… do you even have a wolf?’’ The words rolled off my lips, and I'd never hoped so desperately for negativity in my life as her body tensed up in my grip. She tore her gaze from me before I could piece anything together, snatching her hand from me as well. “Right. It's been six years already but of course you still think of me the same way. The unfortunate, fat, omega who never have anything go right for her.’’ A long breath oozed off my lips in relief. She wasn't wolfless. I knew she couldn't have been. Or it'd have been a greater problem. ‘That scum escaped. Did you get something from her? They are not mates right?’ Ian knocked in through the mind link. ‘Uhm…’ I cleared my throat, and ignored him, focusing on Rosalie. “It's a relief to know that you do have a wolf, Rosa. And I never thought for once that you don't ought to have one.’’ Her eyes grew wide in shock. I'm not exactly sure why and she doesn't try to explain either. She quietly turned and hurried out of the passage. My heart stung as I watched her figure fade into the darkness, knowing she was in such a rush because of Mason. Speaking of which, what sort of twisted game was this? How could she be mates with Mason and still get mated to us? ‘Don't be f*****g stupid, Cas. Where the hell are you and why ain't you telling me what happened?’ Ian snapped through the mindlink again. I sighed terribly. ‘Meet me at the study.’ In less than five minutes, Ian barged into the study and his desperate eyes instantly found me behind the desk. “You could have just told me what the hell happened through the mindlink. Why make me come here?’’ “We'll have to give it some time.’’ He paused. “How long?” “She still claims to be mates with Mason. But what is even more disturbing is that I can't reach her wolf.’’ I explained. ‘‘I can't either. Did you find out why?’’ Oh shoot! I couldn't. I only learnt that she indeed had a wolf and ended there. ‘‘You didn't?’’ “Relax. She just got back today. Let's not choke her already.’’ I said in my defence. Ian scoffed. I know he had a million and one oppositions to throw at me. But he decided to stay quiet and I appreciated it. I stayed back at the study to finish up with some documents while Ian left for his bedroom. We've all waited so long for this day, when we'll finally meet our fated mate. We waited eight whole years. Without knowing she'd been right in front of us the first two years and we'd treated her like s**t. My fingers tightened around the pen as I signed the third file. I felt so stupid. Stupid for carelessly pushing Rosalie around the way I did back then when I didn't even have any personal issues with her. I just did all that to get under her skin and make her react. I'd thought it was fun watching her skim on eggshells around us, afraid not to fall in our predatory trap which we always managed to push her into anyway. “f**k!’’ I slapped the pen on the desk, massaging my face with my palms. I was more angry by the fact that she would never choose us than the idea that she might be mated to Mason. First things first. I had to connect with her wolf. She's definitely our mate. Not just me, but Ian and Orsian had also felt her. What games is she playing with Mason? Or perhaps this was just a quest of hers to scorn us? *Then the goddess must be joking. I can't possibly have four different mates. Mason is my only mate. There must have been a mix up somewhere.* Her words rang in my head and eyes snapped open, annoyance crawling under my skin. Mason was her only mate? How about me and my brothers then? Was our alpha traits and instincts a joke to her? There was only one way to solve this. Reach her wolf. The rest of the night ran out with series of nightmares about Rosalie finally admitting to the mate bond only to brutally reject all three of us and tie the knot with Mason. I woke up with a thudding headache and soaked myself in the bathtub for two hours, before heading for my parents suite. I didn't get the chance to speak with father after returning from the airport yesterday since I had to oversee some aspects of the preparations last night. I strongly doubt that Ian could've filled in the courtesy too. I placed a knock on the door and walked in. The first sound that caught my ears was Louisa's giggles. Violet flip-flops, black dress, a gold bib necklace falling over her chest with delicate manicured fingers caressing its features. Mother is standing behind her after helping her put on the necklace, and they both turned away from the full length mirror to acknowledge me. “Louisa?’’ I froze. A bright smile spread across her face, and she slowly catwalked to me, going on her toes to kiss me. “I missed you.”
