Chapter 14
~ROSALIE~
Was it a panic attack? It's been six years since I've had to deal with it. And I was getting it again.
I stopped by the stairs to support my weight with the rails, gasping for air until my breathing slowly stabilised. It was hard not to sob.
Why did I have to be so pathetic? I totally lost all confidence the moment I saw Kiara again, and the other girls too. They'd all looked so pretty in mini dresses, while I looked like a bag of potatoes.
I'd tried.
I'd really tried to lose some fat the last six years.
I don't even eat so much or anything. But why wouldn't I drop even a single pound like Kiara said.
“I'll take you home.” Ian's voice called from behind and I flinched away from the rails. He stood at the edge of the stairs.
What was that blank look in his eyes now?
Where was all that coldness and resentment that used to simmer in them? And why in the goddess’ name was he offering to take me home after bringing me here to be humiliated?
He began with heavy steps down towards me, his gaze never leaving my face.
I quickly turned away, wiping the spills of tears below my eyes. “I can get home by myself. Stay away from me.”
“It wasn't a request, princess.” Before I could react, he lifted me up from my thighs, throwing me over his shoulder in one strong haul.
“W–hat are you doing? Let me down!” I screamed, hitting his back with everything in me even if it didn't seem like he felt any of it.
More tears poured out freely from my eyes as I recalled how he'd sat there quietly, letting them abuse and call me names. He must have enjoyed the show until the last part, when he thought Dante would take advantage of me. Because he was probably saving me for his own advantage wasn't it?
He dropped me inside the car when we got out, and I didn't try to run away this time as he went around to take his own seat by the steering. I couldn't understand why he kept making me sit beside him, tormenting me with his strong orange and cinnamon stench!
By the time we drove into the compound, my whole body felt numb. I didn't want to wait for Ian to turn around and open the door for me, so I tried to slip out once he parked the car and came down. But to my horror, the door beside me was still locked.
How was that possible?
Wasn't all four doors connected to the same control button?
He only unlocked the door when he got to my side, pulling it open for me. The over exaggerated gesture made me sick to my stomach. I tried to slip away from him the fastest I could, but he didn't seem to have any plans of letting me go yet. He grabbed my wrist before I even took a step.
“What else do you want, you still haven't had enough yet?’’ My voice crouched, pleading.
His eyes wavered. Like he had something to say. Yet nothing came off his lips.
“Please let me go. You can continue with the humiliation tomorrow. Then I would've at least prepared for it…’’
He suddenly pulled me into himself, sending a breath seizing stroke down my chest to my belly, as his muscular frame pressed into my skin.
I froze. My eyes wide as the moon as his cologne filled my nose. My heart thrashed against my ribs, dreading the warmness that rushed to my legs as he pressed a palm on my waist, resting his chin over my head.
“I won't let them hurt you ever again. I promise.’’ He said, his voice deep and laced with meaning, spreading tiny swells down my skin.
Never in a thousand dreams would I have imagined hugging Ian Asheville. The untouchable triplet who didn't even look at girls enough, not to mention garbage like me. But most especially, the man Kiara had always had her eyes on.
How I walked back to the omegas quarters remained a mystery. Ian's voice kept playing on repeat in my head, leaving warmness in the pit off my stomach every time I remembered how firm he'd felt against me.
No.
I must get a grip.
I couldn't melt this easily over one stupid hug.
Get a grip of yourself, Rosalie!
****
Two days rolled in a flash. Forty eight hours without dramas or coincidences, simply because I refused to step out of the omegas quarters and engaged myself in finding anything I could lay my hands on that can help in unlocking the red box.
That was the only thing keeping me here in Iron Claw pack. The sooner I got it over with, the earlier I get to leave this place and all the craziness attached to it.
A knock on the door made me shove the box under my bed immediately. “Who is it?”
“It's me, Hath.’’ Hathaway answered from outside.
“Oh, come in please.’’ I adjusted on the bed, smiling as she walked in. “What are you up to?”
“Nothing much. Just finished my chores.’’ She yawned. “You've been stuck in here for days, you could really use a stroll.’’
‘‘Not interested.’’
“Why do I feel like there is more to this absurd decision of yours?’’
“More?’’ I sighed. “What more could be there, except that there is absolutely nothing good to see within these walls?’’
She shrugged, giving up. “Well.. I heard the alpha called for you.’’
“The alpha?’’
She nodded. “An omega was on her way here to deliver the message. Maybe he finally found a space for you at the company?’’
My heart skipped triple beats.
“Then I must not keep him waiting.” I jumped down the bed, slipped my feet into my flip-flops and ran out after telling Hathaway that I'd be back.
Some omegas directed me to the study where Alpha Alaric was said to be waiting. I took a deep breath as I arrived before the door, saying a little prayer to the moon goddess in my heart before placing a knock .
“Come on in.’’ He called from inside, obviously having been waiting for me. I pushed the door carefully, wearing a polite smile as I walked in.
“Greetings Alpha.’’ My smile froze when I noticed another figure beside him.
Cassian.
Of course I was out of the omegas quarters, even though it's been barely two minutes yet. I hadn't seen him since breakfast with the alpha family two days ago, and he made it expressly obvious by tracing his gaze every part of my body.
“I see you've been able to adjust well. After all the quarters isn't all that new to you, is it?’’
“You are right alpha. Thank you for letting me stay.’’ I kept my gaze low, my hands tucked behind me
“Have it.’’ He said, forcing my gaze up. He was stretching an envelope between his middle and index fingers. He threw it unto the desk across from them and I picked it up.
“That contains information about your office and position in the company, including the company's address. You resume in two days.”
It felt like a dream come true when I dug out the paperwork in the envelope to see the company name boldly written in blue ink; ASHE^VILLE CORPORATIONS.
“Thank you so much alpha.’’ I bowed twice, holding the papers to my chest. “I promise to not to take this opportunity for granted.’’
Finally, a chance to escape the triplets for good.
