"I swear I'm going to slap you if you don't keep still."
"Stop poking at me then."
"You have a date in a few minutes. Let me make you look good."
"Are you saying I don't already look good?"
"Stop fishing for compliments and keep still."
Jessica was trying to help Vanessa get ready for her date at noon. Vanessa might have told Jessica a thousand times that she was meeting with a woman but it still fell on deaf ears. Jessica was dedicated to making her friend look good for this little outing. You can never be too sure with these things.
"You can never be too careful. What if she brings a hunk with her, maybe you can get laid." Jess had said.
"Eww." Vanessa scrunched up her nose.
They both had the day off which was very rare. They barely ever had the same day off because they were the two best cashiers in the supermarket. Usually when one has the day off, the other has to be at work. Lincoln, their boss, wasn't very strict. Instead he was very playful and he respects his employees as much as he expects them to give him the same amount of respect in return. Whatever day off his employees ask of him, he grants.
He has a soft spot for Vanessa, maybe because of the way she walked in his office on the day of the interview and practically begged him to give her the job. Her accounting skills was what got her the job, she could deal money quickly and that was something he needed in his establishment.
The supermarket was extending these days, therefore more workers. Maybe that's why Jessica and she ended up with the same day off. Lincoln was looking to add a little restaurant/bistro to his supermarket so when his customers come in, they can just walk right over to grab something to eat.
"Are you done yet?" Vanessa whines.
"I swear I'm going to poke your eye out if you don't hold still." Jessica warns.
" You've been at this for hours." Vanessa grumbles making Jessica release an irritated sigh.
"I swear to God! Vanessa keep still, I'm almost done."
A few minutes later, Vanessa was allowed to move freely and open her eyes. She opened her eyes to look at herself.
Her makeup was done up naturally. Jess made her eyes pop with the light lavender eye shadow she put on her, and the nude lipstick she was wearing. You can never tell she's wearing makeup because it all looks so natural. It was the classic no-makeup, makeup look and Vanessa pulled it off well.
She was to be dressed in a lavender top and white jeans pants with her white flats.
"You have five minutes to get dressed and get the hell outta here. Don't worry,I'll watch Mia and take care of her. Have fun." Jess gave her a hug then walked out giving her some privacy.
In Jess's opinion, she didn't want to leave. She wanted to stay there and watch her friend's sexy little body get undressed from that tiny piece of towel that was around her waist. It wouldn't be the first that Jess has fantasized about Vanessa being beneath her writhing in pleasure. She wasn't ashamed to admit that she was attracted to her best friend, and Vanessa knew it too. She was so in love with her best friend but she knew that it was never going to happen.
It’s one of the reasons why she goes out basically every night only to come back with a different girl to satisfy her needs. She wanted Vanessa very badly but can’t have her, so she goes after the next best thing which is meaningless s*x with a different girl every night. She was the female version of a man-w***e, woman-w***e some people would say.
A few minutes later Vanessa emerged from the room all dressed but twiddling her fingers.
"Don't be nervous. Everything is going to be okay." Jessica reassured her.
Jess knew that the twiddling of the fingers is a sure sign that her best friend was nervous. Only a matter of time before she starts to bite on her lips, another sure sign of nervousness.
“I have a really bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. It’s the same feeling I got when I told Stanley that I was pregnant. That feeling of wanting to spew my guts all over the place.” Vanessa mumbles.
She really didn’t like the feeling in her gut. She was now second guessing herself and considering if she should actually go through with this little meeting.
“Vanessa everything will be fine. Nothing’s gonna go wrong today, stop letting your nerves eat away at you. It’s going to be okay.” Jessica says.
"Take care of my little angel for me." Vanessa said, nerves still eating away at her despite the reassurance from Jessica.
"We'll be fine." Jess said. "Go knock em dead."
She gave Vanessa a little shove towards the door.
Vanessa hesitantly walked out to her car and got in. A few minutes passed as she watched Jess at the doorway with a smiling Mia in her hands waving at her. She decided then and there to just get it over with so she could come back home to her baby girl.
She started the car and drove off in the direction of the quaint restaurant.
During the car ride, she still couldn’t shake the nerves. She had a feeling there was big surprise for her and she wasn’t quite sure if she was going to like it. She wasn’t a big fan of surprises ever since the she got the surprise of her life when Stanley rejected her baby.
She didn’t even notice that she was close by to the restaurant, she was that far gone into her thoughts. A few minutes later she pulled up in the parking lot of Reggie's restaurant.
"Ok Nessa you can do this. Just take a deep breath, let it out, shake it off and do this." She gave herself a little pep talk before opening the car door and stepping out into the cool February air.
She made her way towards the restaurant door and pulled it open. Once inside she walked up to the young lady sitting at the front desk.
"Hello, my name is Vanessa Colbourne. I'm -"
"Ms Colbourne. Ms Myers is expecting you. If you would please follow this young man to the table." The young woman spoke.
A young man popped up beside Vanessa to take her to the table. She thanked the woman at the desk and started following the young man. She was very impressed with how quickly they got to business. Then again, Reggie’s was a highly respectable restaurant.
As they came close, Vanessa saw a blonde haired woman sitting at the table. Her hair was flowing down her shoulders and being lightly blown in the cool air that was coming through the windows. She was clad in a white skirt, red silk blouse and from what Vanessa could see, red heels with white on the bottom. She was well decked out for Valentine's day.
As they approached the table, Lisa lifted her head out of her phone to watch the approaching party.
"Ms Colbourne, please have a seat." Lisa offered with a light airy smile.
"Hello." Vanessa greeted.
Lisa sat there admiring the woman before her. She could see why her best friend was so smitten with her, she was beautiful. Her wavy hair came down to her shoulders, the lavender blouse she wore fitted well around her perky breasts. Lisa had to force her eyes away from the woman so she wouldn't sweet talk her into her bed.
Stanley would not be pleased with that idea.
Vanessa cleared her throat uncomfortably at the thorough assessment the woman across the table was giving her. She saw the way her eyes lingered a little around her chest area. She knew having Jessica dress her would be a bad idea.
"Can we get this over with. Why am I here?" Vanessa said snappily.
She didn’t mean to sound snappy. She was getting uncomfortable and the last thing she wanted to do right now was to be ogled by this woman. What she needed right now was to be at home with her daughter and a nice Disney movie to keep them company, maybe Jessica could join if she wasn’t too busy trolling the internet for possible hookups.
"Before we get down to business, why not order some food to lighten up the atmosphere." Lisa suggested and called over a waiter.
Lisa could see that she was slightly uncomfortable. She seemed like the type to get nervous or uncomfortable very easily. She could have some fun with this but she didn’t think Stanley would want that. She had to remember that she was doing this for Stanley’s own good.
After they ordered, they sat there in an uncomfortable silence with Lisa scrutinizing every inch of Vanessa that she could see.
"So.." Vanessa drawled.
Lisa snaps out of her stupor and seems to have gotten the hint to start talking.
"So, I called you here today to have a conversation about Stanley." She got right down to business.
Vanessa seemed to have gotten where this conversation was headed and spoke up. She wasn’t about to have this woman tell her anything about Stanley. She didn’t want to hear it. She’s had enough of him even when he wasn’t near her.
"Look, let me just save you the trouble. I don't want anything to do with Stanley, so if you're about to tell me to back off of your man, I don't want him. You can have him all to yourself."
Lisa couldn't help the laugh that bubbled out of her mouth as soon as the words started coming out of Vanessa's mouth.
A few people in the restaurant turned their heads to look at the source of their disturbance. Vanessa sank into her chair a little out of discomfort.
"Were you listening to anything I was saying to you last night?" Lisa asked as soon as her laughter subsided.
"Not really, no." Vanessa confessed.
She was a bit too busy trying to figure out why the hell a woman would be calling her out for lunch, and wanting to talk about Stanley too when all she wanted was to not see or hear his name anywhere for as long as she could avoid it.
"Vanessa, I'm lesbian. Do you need to write it down?" Lisa asked sarcastically.
"No, I think it stuck this time." Vanessa mumbled.
Lisa was very intimidating when she wanted to be.
"Good. Now back to business. Firstly let me introduce myself properly, my name is Lisa Myers and I’m Stanley’s secretary/mom/bestfriend. I called you here today to have a conversation about Stanley yes. But not the conversation you think. I hate seeing my best friend upset and moping about the office. I try my best to cheer him up all the time, I even set up a date for him right now, but thing is there is no date. It's all a prank. I love messing with him like that, it puts a smile on his face."
"What does this have to do with me?" Vanessa interrupted. She really didn’t care because all she could hear running through her head was that he deserved every bit of misery he was going through.
The waiter came back with their orders a few minutes ago but neither woman has touched their food, the conversation too serious to worry about their stomachs.
"It has everything to do with you Vanessa, don't you get it?" Lisa asks impatiently.
"No I don’t." Vanessa admitted.
When Lisa started talking, Vanessa was worried about what might come out of the woman's mouth. But nothing so far had registered in her brain. She just knew that Lisa said Stanley was unhappy.
Serves the bastard right.
"You make him happy Vanessa. The few months you guys were together was the happiest I've seen him since high school when Allison Sinclair had s*x with him."
"I really didn't need to know the last bit." Vanessa mumbled.
"Neither did I, but I know so now you know. The details are much more disturbing, since he shared every bit with me." Lisa visibly shuddered.
Vanessa decided then and there that she liked Lisa in some way (not in an intimate way though). She was very straight forward and not afraid to say what's on her mind. She was currently telling off an old man sitting across from them who kept staring at her to ' mind his own f*****g business '.
"Make him see what he's missing out on. Give him teasers, bump into him sometime. Make him chase you. Maybe then he'll stop moping and have some color back in his cheeks and life back in his eyes. Please Vanessa, do this for me." Lisa begged.
She was never one to resort to begging. She's never begged for anything in her life other than begging her partner to make her c*m but that's been the only begging she's done.
"I don't even know you, why would I do it? And moreover I thought I told you I wanted nothing to do with Stanley anymore." Vanessa asks.
"You don't even have to ask me that. You're already going to do it. And you’re only telling yourself that you’re over him but you really aren’t." Lisa said.
"How are you so sure?" Vanessa challenged.
"Cause you love him."
"I'm not in love with Stanley. Don't be ridiculous." Vanessa spluttered.
The thought of her loving Stanley was completely and utterly ridiculous.
"Then why is there a faint blush covering your cheeks?" Lisa teased.
Lisa already knew the both of them were in love with each other but they were both stubborn and didn't want to admit it.
Stanley is the one she's been trying to get to admit it. Even his friend Colton, who thought he could take her spot as best friend, was trying to get him to open his eyes and see that he's been in love with the young accountant the whole time they've been together.
Whenever anyone said anything, he'd just laugh and say,
'you're delusional'
Not much of a difference with the stubborn woman sitting in front of her now. Only now she's not being delusional but ridiculous.
"Whatever." Vanessa tried to cover up her cheeks.
"Uh-oh." Lisa suddenly said.
"What? What does uh-oh mean?" Vanessa asked the woman but she kept staring over her head.
Vanessa took a chance and turned to look at what caught Lisa's attention.
There he was in all his 6"2' glory, clad in a dark blue suit fitting nicely over his taut biceps. His beautiful eyes standing out more than ever as they landed on her. He was looking delectable as always.
Only one thought ran through her head as he neared them.
Uh-oh indeed.
Her heart was in trouble.
