Chapter Four

1357 Words
The next morning Stanley was sitting in his office as per usual on a bright and sunny morning. He was always the first one in office. He really had nothing better to do than to mope around and do work. It was his everyday routine, the one that he stuck to religiously for as long as he could remember. Soon after, his door burst open and in came a flash of blonde hair and red stilettos. "What would brighten up a very dull morning?" Lisa asks walking into Stanley's office. "A bottle of Jack." Stanley answers without barely raising his head from his paperwork. "Even better. A lunch date." Lisa grins as his head shoots up. "With whom?" He asks carefully. "A very interested party." She answers shrugging her toned shoulders. Lisa had a very evil plan lodged in her head. She might have promised Vanessa that Stanley would never find her but Vanessa was right when she said that if he wanted to find her, he would have done so already. He just wasn’t looking in the right places for her. He didn’t even hire a PI if he wanted to find her so badly. "Why do I have the feeling that I'm not going to like this?" He mutters. "Your feelings are off today because you are gonna love it." She informs him straightening her white skirt. She was dressed in a red silk-like blouse and a white pencil skirt with red heels with the white bottom. "Why are you dressed like Valentine's day?" He asks her giving her a quick once over. "Maybe because it is Valentine's day." She answers him in a 'duh' tone. "And this lunch date is my Valentine's present to you." "Do I have to?" He whines like a four year old. He had much better things to than to waste his time with a pointless date. "Yes, yes you do." She answers sternly. "Noon works for you? Of course it does, why did I ask that." "Do I not have a say in the matter?" He asks amused. "No, no you don't." She says turning on her heel while tapping away at the tablet in her hands. He shakes his head at her retreating form. He was absolutely glad that he got her back in his life. He appreciated the thought that she put into making sure that he was happy even if it meant just getting him a girl for a night. But he really wondered what she had planned for him this afternoon. If he was being honest with himself, he was nervous. The thing with his best friend was, she always made him nervous with her surprises. He just hopes it doesn't end up with him getting kicked in the nuts like the last time she set up a date for him. That day did not go so well for him. Flashback "Don't you think you're too skinny to be wearing such tall heels?" He had asked the blonde sitting across the desk from him. He realized his mistake right away. "What did you just say?" She narrowed her eyes at him as she stood up to hover over him. He hated the idea of looking up into someone's face so he got up so the roles were reversed. He was now the one hovering over her. "I just fear for you that's all." He tried to calm down the blonde as her eyes turned into little slits. "You imbecile." She raised a perfectly shaved foot and her shin landed in his baby making machine. He groaned as he hunched over holding onto his precious jewels while his date storms out of the restaurant. End of flashback He shifted uncomfortably in his chair as he remembered that uneventful evening. In her defense, he definitely shouldn't have said she was too skinny, but he realized that a little too late. Everyone is different and maybe that’s just the way she wanted to be. He was knocked out of his short-lived thoughts by the office door bursting open once again. "What are you doing tonight?" His other best friend came bursting through the door. "Colton, do you not know how to knock?" He massaged his temple with his fingers. He was going to need a cup of Jack Daniels to deal with all these people bursting into his office this early in the morning or maybe a strong shot of vodka. "Not really no. But I need a side man tonight cause we are going clubbing." Colton says to him. "A side man?" Stanley asks incredulously. "Bro, you know what I mean. I need you by my side tonight." Colton gave him the puppy dog eyes. "Your puppy dog eyes don’t work on me but if I'm not busy I'll accompany you." He states. "You're not busy tonight, I already checked with the fiery little thing out there you call your secretary." Colton grins. "Lisa is more than that to me." Stanley sighs and pushes away from his desk to stand at the floor to ceiling windows in his office. For a second Colton was lost until it slowly came to him, "It's her isn't it?" Colton asks carefully. He knows the subject of Stanley's first best friend is a very sore one for him. He fell in love with the beautiful blonde when they were in high school, but apparently she was lesbian so he had to settle for friendship. It was never spoken between Lisa and Stanley ever again after Lisa found Stanley jacking off to a photo of her when they went to a convention the school hosted for them before their graduation. It was very disturbing to think about, but what you can you do, it already happened. Lisa knew her best friend was in love with her, but they could never be anything more than friends. Truth be told, the reason for Lisa and Stanley's sudden falling out had to do with the fact that Lisa couldn't handle his smoldering looks and kind smiles sent towards her, so she avoided him as much as she could. She was more interested in 'chicks than d***s' - her words - but damn Stanley and his kind ways, she was thinking of converting herself. Apparently she couldn't hide any longer as she needed to make money. "Yeah." Stanley answered after a few beats of silence. "Dude, you guys already got pass the awkward stage in your friendship, so what's up now?" Colton asks his friend. "Nothing." Stanley answers. "You know what? We're going out tonight but first I apparently have a lunch date to get to." He didn’t want to talk about his embarrassing phase in high school. He already got over it, no need to go back down that road again. It was done and gone now. Colton burst out laughing. “You have a date? With who?” He chokes out through his cackling. "Blind date, Lisa set it for me. Apparently I'm too much of a 'p***y' to do anything myself so she took it in her hands to get something done about my 'moping'. Stanley air quotes. "Nice." Colton smiles. “I like her even more. Have fun." He winks and stalks out still chuckling to himself. Colton was already planning to give Lisa a big high five and maybe even give her some money for her brilliant idea of setting Stanley up on a blind date. She was very clever to be able to get Stanley to do anything at all. He didn’t really like to take instructions from anyone since he’s the boss. Stanley was very jittery since he took a peak at the time on his watch. He only had a few hours until Lisa would come pull him out of his office to go on this date. He was not looking forward to this, especially if it was going to be anything like the last one. He decided to fight the jitters with some more work until the time came for him to leave.
