Aria's POV
I watched quietly as Imelda pulled Sebastian's hand and they left the room together. My heart constricted in pain at the sight, even tho he had rejected me, deep down, I still hoped he would realize he made a mistake and take it back.
The sound of the nurses gathering their equipment made me forcefully peel my eyes from the door. I watched as the doctor and nurses left the room as well, leaving me alone with the Lycan king in the room.
An awkward silence reigned between us as I gulped down emptiness. The Lycan King kept his eyes trained on me and I tried hard to avoid his gaze but it seemed not to be working.
I felt very uncomfortable under his intense gaze and Instinctively shut my eyes.
"Open your eyes!" He thundered in a commanding tone making me shudder in shock but not in fear.
I opened my eyes and shut them almost instantly when the thought of coming face-to-face with the Lycan King crossed my head.
I could feel my heart hammering against my ribcage in nervousness.
I felt him move from his spot and slowly opened my eyes but did not still look at him.
He began to approach me and I took slow steady breaths to calm my nerves. I could feel his eyes boring holes into my face as he walked towards me.
I immediately turned my head when I felt him get closer. He stopped in front of my bed and bent to my level so that his face was directly on mine.
I had no option but to look up and stare into his face. His eyes narrowed in slits as he stared back at me.
"Are you pretending to be mute to escape punishment?" He said coldly, his voice dripping with malice.
I swallowed hard, my heart racing ferociously in my chest at his question. His eyes remained trained on me as he watched me think over his question.
He inched closer to me and leaned towards me until his lips were just inches away from my ear.
I could feel his breath on my skin and that made me shiver slightly.
"You don't need to answer the question. But just so you know, whatever the case may be, you will still pay for making an attempt on my life," he said and leaned back while staring directly into my eyes.
"That's my promise to you, you will forever regret making such a move," he added in a menacing tone and stood upright before turning around and taking his leave.
Silence reigned in the room as I was left in my solitude. My mind was in a haze as I wondered how I was going to escape the fate waiting to devour me.
I wished the strange man in the forest had just killed me, then I wouldn't be here wondering when I was going to die. I wouldn't have to go through another torture at the hands of the Lycan King after all I had endured in the blackwood pack, in the hands of Alpha Sebastian and that woman.
A stray tear rolled down my cheek and I quickly wiped it. I sniffled sadly, thoughts of what my fate would be from now, filling my head.
I knew my fate wasn't going to be a rosy one. I had signed up for my doom the moment I ran out of my cell after I had witnessed Matty die.
I didn't plan to return though, heck, I wasn't that daft, but the moon goddess had other plans for me. I was meant to suffer a lot till death and I’m sure that was why she allowed me to be saved from that strange man so I could suffer more in the hands of the Lycan king.
A whimper left my lips as I thought over the threats of the Lycan King and how fast my life had turned for the worst.
Suddenly the room door opened and someone entered, snapping me back to reality.
I stared at the nurse who had a nose mask over her face, hiding her identity with raised brows.
I didn't see her with the others when the doctor came to check on me, so who was she?
She walked towards me with calculated steps, holding firmly to the tray she was carrying.
Something felt off about her, the air around me suddenly turned cold and I could sense the danger lurking around.
She dropped her tray on the side table and carefully began to draw out the injection from the vial bottle into a syringe.
I knew she was going to use that on me and tried to make a run but I could not move a muscle. My body remained still on the bed and I whimpered helplessly, wishing there was a way to stop her.
All this time, she didn't say a word to me until she had finished drawing out every content in the bottle which made it all the more suspicious.
She dropped the empty vial on her tray and turned towards me with the fully loaded syringe. Her face was cold and void of emotions. She reminded me of my experience with the strange man in the forest.
Memories of how I had struggled for my life as he delivered punches to my face flashed in my head and my breath hitched.
I wondered what sort of fate I had and why all of this was suddenly happening to me.
The nurse hovered over me, a cynical smirk dancing on her lips. "Why are you so hated, Aria? It seems everyone is on your neck and wants you dead.”
“I bet your parents didn't want you too," She chuckled in mockery and began to massage my arms gently.
"Now that I see you, I'm curious to know what's special about you that everyone wants to see you six feet under," She shrugged.
She leaned closer to me, her face just a few inches away from mine as she whispered, her stinking breath fanning my face. "Fortunately, I'm here to grant their wants and I promise, it won't take long.
“You've been through a lot, Aria, I think it's high time you take a rest and I am the best person to put you to sleep."
As she said that, she straightened her spine and picked up the syringe, an evil glint in her eyes.
Fear enveloped me as I watched her helplessly. I was desperate to move my body but that was entirely impossible.
I began to shake my head fervently, trying to beg her not to hurt me but all that left my lips were whimpers and mumbles.
The needle was almost piercing into my skin when the door burst open and a guard walked in. The strange nurse was startled in fear and almost dropped the syringe but she held it firmly.
The guard's eyes darted between me and her causing her to slightly fidget.
He began walking towards us and she quickly moved away from me, gathered her items, and tried to rush out of the room with her tray when the guard stopped her.
"Is anything the matter, nurse? Is there something wrong with the young woman?" He asked in a concerned tone.
The nurse clutched tightly to the tray and did not turn around to look at the guard. "Sh-She's okay, There's no problem," she stuttered out, trying so hard to maintain her composure. "I only came to do routine check-ups," she added and with that, she scurried out of the room.
The guard turned to me. "The Lycan King, Alpha Xander, has asked me to come check on you and watch over you too."
I furrowed my brows in confusion, wondering why the Lycan King would send his guard to come and watch over me.
Didn't he hate me and want me dead? Why then was he being concerned about my wellbeing? Or perhaps he didn’t want anyone to kill me before he had the chance to.
A sad sigh escaped my lips at the thought and I directed my gaze back to the guard who had positioned himself at the corner of my bed.
"You will be discharged tomorrow as His Highness had instructed. As we speak, The doctor is already preparing your discharge for tomorrow. Our Alpha wants to leave this pack for his pack as soon as possible and you’ll be coming with us," he revealed and my brows furrowed in confusion.
"His pack? Why do I need to go to his pack?" I thought inwardly, staring at the guard with a confused expression.
It then suddenly dawned on me as I remembered how alpha Sebastian and that psycho woman had sold me off to the Lycan king.
My heart thudded in my chest at this development. I knew I would probably lose my life the very first day I step foot into his pack.
