The Mirror of Envy

799 Words
The Northern Ice Fields stretched like an endless white sea under a gray sky. Snow crunched under thousands of boots. Breath hung in the air like smoke. The wind cut like knives, carrying the faint scent of frost and distant pine. Ten thousand men marched in perfect formation—armor dusted with ice, cloaks wrapped tight, eyes fixed on the path ahead. Aryan walked at the front, no cloak, no shield from the cold. The power inside him burned steadily—eternal, absolute, infinite. He was the New First. The cycle was his to command. Renn walked close, voice muffled by frost on his beard. “My lord, the scouts returned at dawn. The Mirror Palace is ahead—three hours march. The God of Envy has sealed the gates with illusions. Mirrors cover every wall, every floor. They say the reflections multiply enemies. One soldier becomes ten, ten become a hundred. The knights use the mirrors to reflect attacks back tenfold.” Aryan’s voice was calm, cutting through the wind. “Then we break the mirrors.” Lira fell in on his other side, sword wrapped against the frost. “The Pantheon is desperate. The remaining gods are sending fragments of their essence to Envy. They know if you take this one, the rest will fall like dominoes.” Aryan looked north. “They will fall.” The system chimed quietly in his mind. [God Devour – Progress: 3/12] Target: God of Envy Location: Mirror Palace, Northern Ice Fields Warning: Envy’s domain is illusion and jealousy. All attacks are reflected. Divine knights multiply through mirrors. Envy feeds on your own doubts. Aryan’s smile was thin. “I have no doubts left.” The army marched faster. The cold deepened. The third hour arrived. The Mirror Palace rose from the ice—tall spires of silvered glass and frozen crystal, reflecting the sky, the snow, the army. Thousands of reflections appeared—ten thousand men became twenty, forty, endless. Illusions charged—identical soldiers, identical weapons, identical rage. Aryan stopped the army. The illusions hit first. Swords swung. Arrows flew. Aryan raised his hand. Mirror Reflection – Activated. The illusions struck the invisible barrier. They bounced back. Illusions shattered against illusions. Real knights stood exposed—silver armor, mirror shields, blades shimmering like liquid silver. Flame Dominion – Full Power. Fire surged forward—controlled, precise. Ice melted. Mirrors cracked. Knights screamed. Aryan walked through the dying illusions. The palace doors opened. The God of Envy waited inside—slender, cloaked in shifting reflections, face hidden behind a thousand mirrored masks. “You envy my power,” the god hissed, voice echoing from every mirror. Aryan stepped inside. “I envy nothing.” Truth Dominion – Activated. Truth forced from the god. “You fear being forgotten. You fear being less. You fear me.” The god screamed. Lie Devour – Activated. All jealousy dissolved. Truth flooded. Divine essence surged. The palace shook. The god shattered into glass shards. Aryan stood. The system chimed. [God Devour – Success] Divine Power +1 New Ability: Jealousy Reversal (Lv.1) – Turn enemy jealousy into your strength HP: 1,600,000/1,600,000 → 3,200,000/3,200,000 The army outside roared. They marched away from the shattered palace. The empire grew. The cycle continued. The Devourer ascended. The next target waited. The Northern Ice Fields gave way to frozen plains. The army marched south again—ten thousand men, armor now dusted with broken glass from the Mirror Palace, faces hardened by cold and victory. The air warmed slowly. Snow thinned. The wind lost its bite. Aryan walked at the front, pace steady, no sign of fatigue. The new Jealousy Reversal ability hummed inside him—ready to turn any envy back into raw strength. Renn fell in beside him. “My lord, the scouts say the next target is the God of Greed in the Golden Desert. His temple is buried in sand. His knights are endless—spawned from gold. They say his greed consumes everything that enters.” Aryan’s voice was calm. “Then we consume him.” Lira looked back at the shattered palace. “The Pantheon is breaking. The remaining gods are hiding. They know the hunt is unstoppable.” Aryan looked at the southern horizon. “They can hide. They cannot escape.” The system chimed. [God Devour – Progress: 4/12] Next Target: God of Greed Location: Golden Desert, Western Sands Warning: Greed’s domain is wealth and endless desire. Divine knights are infinite—spawned from gold. Temple is underground. Aryan smiled. “Prepare the army.” The march south began. The ice gave way to sand. The cold gave way to heat. The army marched on. The hunt went on. The empire grew. The cycle continued. The Devourer reigned. The gods trembled.
