“Turn right ahead,” Auntie directed the driver. “Stay straight,” Saul said. “The quarry is on this road.” “The portal isn’t next to the quarry.” Saul’s eyes narrowed. “What are you talking about?” “It’s a mile away. The road to the right will connect you to a path my people made centuries ago. It leads to the portal.” The driver slowed at the turn off. He looked at Saul who nodded. The van turned onto a rutted road and continued on for another mile. In the darkness it was hard to tell the edge of the road from the surrounding forest.
