Larry Redhawk had always been something of a misfit, an outsider in his Potawatomi tribal community. His father had been a drunk who died in a car accident when Redhawk was eleven years old. Shortly after his father’s death, his mother, who was a Lakota Sioux, moved back to South Dakota, leaving young Redhawk to be raised by the Potawatomi tribe. Throughout his formative years, his grandfather had been his lifeline. He introduced Redhawk to computers when he noticed the boy was fascinated with technology. Redhawk was a natural and quickly became the go-to guy for computer repairs on the reservation. In the process, he began programming in earnest.
