Unlike most mid-twenty-first century tech-savvy Americans, Jack Vance preferred the rugged seclusion and beauty of Washington State’s Olympic rainforest to the comforts of city life. As a kid, Vance had never played team sports but spent all his time after school in the woods around his grandparent’s home.
