Chapter 14

2405 Words

14 Marquette, Michigan October 23rd 2032 Dawn was a bright glow on the eastern horizon above Lake Michigan when Birgit pulled into the rear parking lot of the US Fish and Wildlife Service Lab. She recognized Marge’s Prius in her spot by the gravel walkway leading to the back door. There were no other cars in the lot and she breathed a sigh of relief. Either the shooters were chasing their tails around the city or they hadn’t bothered coming to the lab yet. Either way, she figured she had enough time to grab her pistol and Marge and get back to Olav’s lab at the university where they’d be safe. She entered the rear of the building and the first thing she noticed was the lights were off. Marge always turned them on when she arrived. Birgit’s shoulders tensed and her breathing quickened.
