The moments after that talk were filled with absolute silence as the group moved towards the volcano several miles before them.
It took about 2 hours to arrive at the foot of the volcano and another half to get to the entrance stationed at the top.
"Remember, at the sight of danger, use the Spatial Transference scrolls given to you. Please, all of you, be careful." Winds swirled around Rogers as he finished his sentence an soon what seemed to be a spherical shield of winds appeared to shroud the group as they dived deep within the volcano.
Soon, the group could see two large Beasts resting upon solidified lava rocks while they slept.
"It's impossible to fight them over the lava." Rogers explained as his spell dropped them at the edge of the lava lake where the temperature wasn't as boiling. "We'll lure them here where we have a foothold and fight it out. Klein." At his call, a young man directed his palms forward as a field of ice was created beneath them to reduce the temperature. "Launch destructive spells, we can't sneak in on them because of the lava anyways. Use you most destructive spell."
Varieties of elements flew through the air to clash with the two sleeping beasts when suddenly, a wall of flames appeared before the two to block the attacks. Immediately after, two beastial auras clashed against the group causing the students to gulp in fear.
"Keep your shits together and keep the spells coming." Rogers's yell seemed to calm them down as they sent out more spells but to their dismay, the two beasts only conjured defensive spells that expended less Mana than their attacks. It was obvious who would win if things kept on going that way. "f**k! I'll just drag you here then! Hurricane!"
Loud winds gathered in a circle after his shout to make up a large hurricane that pulled at Kyle and Alex.
'They are annoying.' Alex's thoughts rang clearly in Kyle's head as he glared at the 20.
'Let's just find out their aim. They can't kill us and it would be great to know where our strength stood.' In the end, Kyle was able to convince him just as their bodies reached the group.
"Klein, take the kids to the Drake, it's weaker. The rest, with me to the Fox!" Rogers's yell rang out as he dashed towards the Fox.
The group followed his orders as they gathered together to surround the Drake but their jaws dropped as a rain of fireballs unfurled above them.
"Something's wrong! It's intelligence is frighteningly high!" Klein shouted as he conjured a wall of ice that evaporated quickly under the barrage, still it had performed its duty of giving them time to escape.
Rogers's side was much worse as the Fox possessed power at the peak of Rank 2. All of their attacks were easily thwarted by the Fox. "Buy me some time!" He quickly jumped to the back of the group to prepare his much stronger spell which consumed a lot of time to cast.
'Oh.' Alex snickered inwardly as he saw this. He and Kyle hadn't only captured this volcano, they had also spent their time spying on the Belgrave County not too far from them. To the point where they had learnt about their language, customs and even everything about their knowledge on Mana and Magic, at least to a basic level. This was the factor that had birthed Enhanced Thought Process and had moved both their Mana Control to MAX, leading to Alex and Kyle possessing the ability to use Mana past the realm of low ranked beasts.
What Rogers was planning was casting a spell ranked at the pseudo-Rank 3. This was something that went beyond his Mana Core Rank so it was strenuous and would take a lot of time to fully cast it.
But he had forgot to take into account was that Alex and Kyle had fought a pseudo-Rank 3 beast before and, although it didn't possess much spells due to its limited intelligence, it still possessed more pseudo-Rank 3 spells and that meant, as the stronger one, Alex had had to survive the onslaught of such attacks. This was done because of Alex's racial talent of the Tailed Fox. This talent allowed the Tailed Foxes fortify their respective element with every extra Tail.
Alex possessed the legendary 10 Tailed talent, which meant at Rank 2, he had three tails which increased the strength of his Fire magic three times. This was what dealt with the Serpent's attacks.
"Raging Hurricane!" At the completion of the spell a large gale swept across Alex attempting to pierce at his skin. Rogers smiled with expectation and fatigue but his expression froze when he noticed the three tails of the Fox lighting up. "Run! It's a Three Tailed Fox!"
A wave of fire dispelled the hurricane while chasing the running men. "Scatter around it, let it waste it's Mana."
Again, they forgot that they were within a volcano were Fire Mana was very concentrated so Alex's mana recovery was heightened in a place like this.
Back to the other side. Klein swept his sword to the air as he finished his cast. "Rising Glacier!"
A large and sharp sword made of sizzling ice appeared at his side and shot towards Kyle but he simply cast his Fiery Wings spell to rise up in the sky enough for the spell to loose its effectiveness because of the volcanic surroundings.
Seeing the spell melt, he dived down while a wave of heat spread across him. 'Meteor's Impact.'
An explosion ensued as the spell wrecked its surrounding and the group together. The students were surprised as they spotted only multiple burn spots on their bodies, they quickly realized the reason seeing the boy named Elijah panting with his sword supporting him while a shield of concentrated darkness before him to cover the entire group. His blue eyes soon glossed over with fatigue causing the shield to crumble. His twin was quick to finish her own cast. "Greater Heal."
Light Mana filled the air around the group to heal the minor burns earned, causing everyone to smile thankfully at the two. But their expressions grew grim as they noticed the Drake's curious eyes as it stared at the two.
Klein's voice quivered as he yelled out. "Your Highnesses, everyone, the Spatial Transference scrolls!" Everyone was quick to follow his orders yet dread filled the air as they tore their scrolls only to notice that, at that moment, multiple fireballs blew up in their surrounding causing the scattered Fire Mana interfere with their scrolls. They were still within the volcano.
The Drake then released what could be considered a laugh as it sat at the ground. With a snap of it's fingers, a tornado of flames appeared around the group and it, sealing their chances of escaping by foot. Fire soon gathered in the air above it to form words in their Onir[1] language. "You two are interesting."
Everyone immediately knew it was talking about the twins. Elijah stood straight with the help of his sister and stared dead at Kyle's reptilian eyes. "Yes, then wouldn't it be better to let our friends go? Their cores are useless to you anyways."
While everyone stared at the twins with gratification, Kyle laughed. "So it would be better for me to let them bring their armies here to kill me? And why would I do that?" The group had their jaws unhinged. They couldn't believe that a beast had actually thought that far. A flash of orange Mana flew towards Kyle before he released his own. He then smiled before snapping his fingers, that action brought about creating a large hole in his tornado of fire.
At first the students got ready to run for it but they trembled in fear as they saw the weak bodies of Rogers and his team in the Fox's claw. It walked towards them before placing the team on the ground next to the students. Even the coolheaded twins began to tremble slightly. Elizabeth was quick to dismiss her fear and heal her teachers. Unfortunately, even if their wounds could be healed, their fatigue could not be replenished.
'Hah~, if only I had light magic.' Kyle could only fantasize about his human body for now.
'Eating her core could fasten the process.' Alex said through Telepathy.
Seeing the two beasts staring intently at Elizabeth caused her and her brother tense up. No one actually wished to die and at such a young age at that.
'Nah, but I have found a way to solve our issue of cores.' Kyle snickered as he moved his gaze to Rogers. His Mana flowed out of his body to touch the man's head. 'Hello there.'
Rogers almost fell to the ground when that voice reached his head. "Te-telepathy?!!" His words caused everyone around him to be shocked. According to the books on beasts, only highly Ranked Beasts owned Telepathy and only Tailed Foxes could use it at a lower Rank but that was 3 & above.
Kyle nodded. 'Yes,yes. It isn't that shocking. Anyways, do you mind if I ask why you came here?"
"You're a Drake." Rogers blurted completely out of shock. "You're a human level intelligent Beast at Rank 2."
'Yes, so?' Kyle snorted as he proudly stated his next sentence. 'Do you think I won't evolve into something better? I think of this Racial state as a temporal home, I will soon leave it and proceed to the mansion that is being a Dragon. Again, my question?'
Rogers shook his head as he moved forward from his stupor. "Y-yes. We came to reclaim the Volcano."
'Because you thought we were easy fries?' Kyle laughed once more.
"No... yes. But we're deeply sorry for disturbing you with our presence." At this point, all the students looked at Rogers with renewed hope as they prayed to all the gods they knew to help them out of their crisis.
'I don't care anyways. I'm guessing you wanted to reclaim the Volcano because of the Fire Mana concentrated ores within it right?'
Rogers nodded, awed at the intelligence of the Beast before him, one that even surpassed that of the intelligence of the Fox race of Beasts.
'How 'bout this? We shall let you mine the ore. But for every minute mined, you repay back with Mana Cores. How's that?'
Rogers's eyes widened. He couldn't believe that they had actually been given approval to mine the area. "Of course, of course. I shall report this to the Lord at once!" The surrounding students and teachers sighed in relief, this meant that they had been pardoned.
Kyle gave up his attention on the man before moving to the twins and sending telepathy strands. 'Actually, we could have started with this. But I wanted to see how Light and Dark attributed humans fought. Okay, I've already agreed to your county's mine program but I want to ask you of one thing. Is it possible to lend me all the books concerning Mana and Magic?'
His request actually dumbfounded the two as they thought he would ask for their rare Mana Cores. But they quickly nodded and followed the group in leaving the volcano as fast as they could.
