8 - Aftermath

Kyle's eyes flickered as he woke up. His sight was immediately covered by the series of system alerts waiting for him.

A groan left his lips as a headache assaulted him while memories of what happened earlier flashed through his mind. 'I lost myself.' Confusion filled his mind as he recollected his memories again and again. 'There are actually skills capable of doing that?'

"You're awake?" A light voice was heard from his side.

It was now he realized that he was back in the Vulcas Volcano. At his side were his three friends, Alex, Elijah and Elizabeth. {How long was I out?}

{Half a day. We had to feed you the man's Mana Core to stop yours from imploding.} Alex's answer came immediately and his worries could be seen even on his fox face.

{I guess I owe you. That core would have been enough to get you to Rank 3.} Kyle showed an apologetic smile.

{You killed him so it was never mine to begin with. You almost died fighting that guy! How could I take it!} Alex jabbed at Kyle's body, but the little strength within it and the relieved smile across his face showed how worried he was for him.

"What... what happened back there?" Elijah shot a curious look at Kyle. Though spells that increased strength weren't unheard of, there weren't any that could be used before Rank 5.

{Honestly, I don't know. I just... snapped.} Kyle sighed as he truly didn't know what happened to him. But a part of him felt that it would be connected to his reincarnation. His eyes then widened as he looked at the twins. {Those guys were here for the twins!}

"{The County!}" All four of them yelled as they moved their focus towards the Belgrave County. The twins quickly climbed atop Alex as flaming wings appeared in his back and flew into the air with Kyle behind them, charging a Breath Attack. The 4 rushed to the County central as that was the town where the Earl's Mansion was located.

But what awaited them was a peaceful town, but with charred lands at its edges. It was easy to see that a battle had erupted but it was one that didn't reach the gates of the town. Judging from the multiple charred bodies on the ground, it was easy to notice that the attackers had lost.

{One person.} Alex commented. As he was more sensitive towards Mana than Kyle, he could sense that there was only one Mana attribute present against the different ones that were the county's attackers. Only one person fought against the multiple attackers and it was someone with a Lightning attribute. {Lightning attribute, but it's very hard to sense.}

"Dad!" The twins smiled with glee. It seemed their father had taken care of the threats. "It can only be him."

"Of course." A sudden voice made the four panic and made the Breath Attack Kyle had been preparing to launch off at the direction of the voice. Yet it did nothing towards the owner, only a flash of lightning was needed to dispel Kyle's pseudo-Rank 3 Breath Attack. "You're surprisingly powerful for a low classed Drake."

"Dad!" The twins sighed in relief as they noticed the blond haired man. "You scared us."

Arthur chuckled then faced the two tense Beasts. "I apologize for the shock and thank you for protecting my children. I honestly didn't think I could get there in time."

In truth, Arthur was very nervous when he was surrounded by a group of peak Rank 4 beings with 2 Rank 5s as their leader. This made him unleash his full strength as he wanted to finish the battle quickly and rescue his children, almost injuring Lionel who was helping him. Luckily, the Principal informed him of the twins' safety which he could monitor through his Earth spell, Rock minion. This made the nervousness in Arthur transform into anger at the thought that he wasn't there for his children. And he decided vent that anger on his attackers leading to the destruction of the forest around them.

The two Beasts shivered as they recalled the pure destruction vented on the land around them was caused by the man before them. It was not hard to imagine what would have happened if he had chosen to be hostile to them. There was no doubt that their existences would have been wiped off the face of the world.

{It's only natural for us to protect them. We're friends after all. Please if there's anything you need from us, we're willing to help.} Kyle's Telepathic message reached Arthur in an instant and made him chuckle.

"Hehe. It just so happens that you can be of help." Arthur gazed at the resolute expression on both the Beasts' faces and smiled once more. "The party that attacked me is the current Duke of the Bairon(West) region, under the guise of uniting all of the west.

I want you two to launch an attack unto his Dukedom (Personal Estate). Of course, this is almost impossible as he is at the Rank 6 but at the very least it will be possible to unleash chaos in his household. This should keep him busy for the time being."

Kyle and Alex didn't talk or move, instead they spoke telepathically untile they both nodded. {It's impossible for us Rank 3 beasts to sneak into such an array... unless you have something that could help us.}

Arthur's brows furrowed, causing the twins to tense as they clutched unto Alex's back praying to every god they knew that the situation would turn for the better. Yet, he only laughed as he looked at the two beasts. "Lionel wasn't wrong. Your intelligence is frighteningly high for Rank 2 beasts. Anyways, there is a way for me to help you. It is possible to sneak into the palace undetected if... you're humans."

Alex's and Kyle's eyes widened as they looked at the Earl before them. {Light attribute Cores!}

Yes it was possible for them to sneak in, if they both evolved into Light attributed Beasts. The enemies would never expect such.

{You're willing to help us a achieve the 3rd Rank?} Kyle asked with surprise. {You're not afraid we'll betray you?}

Arthur laughed once more. "Kid, you're a hundred years too young to think you can even touch me."

Kyle gulped, looked at his devastated surrounding and subconsciously nodded. Indeed, hell grind me to mush with a single finger. He forced down his fear to allow excitement reign. {When do we start?}

Arthur smiled. "Tomorrow the cores will be delivered to your abode. I expect the two of you to advance within 4 months."

{Of course.} Kyle smiled. He and Alex bode farewell to the father-children trio and left for their cave.

The excitement within him burst open as he saw the cores appear before him in the hands of an Earth Golem.

Forget 4 months, he would force his body to evolve within 2!
