9 William had never needed an alarm in the past, but he should have set one the day after Blanche’s visit. He’d tossed and turned until the early hours of the morning before falling into a broken sleep. Now he’d have to hurry. There was only thirty minutes until his weekly appointment with Nick. He leapt out of bed and tripped over the clothes he’d thrown on the floor last night. Kicking them aside, he rummaged in his wardrobe for clean clothes and rushed into the shower. He made it to the church car park with moments to spare. He hesitated outside the door and then strolled in with breezy greetings all round.
