16 Blanche pulled the desk drawer open and selected two pieces of writing paper. Blue with a gold edging. Paper that was a pleasure to write on. Naomi had urged her to write, and William had almost commanded it. Well, Blanche would do it, but on her own terms. She’d write like she was writing to a friend. There’d been so many lies, so many things unsaid. She might not have the courage to say them all, but she was determined to write them. Dear William, By now you will be on Lord Howe Island.
