I followed the road as far as it would let me. The thick mist and the number of cars left on the road made it difficult. It was prolonged going. My hand held onto my blood-stained sweatshirt the entire way. I kept the windows of the car open to listening for those creatures as I went, and whenever I got the chance, I would check mine and David’s phone for any service. The goal was to get as far as I could, but I didn’t see how I would get anywhere. I didn’t have GPS.
