Luke kept staring at the door after his PA had closed it after her. His adrenaline always rushed when he had work to do. He was a hard-working worker, nay a workaholic. However, today's wind seemed to be blowing him against the tide. If anything, his hesitation to get up and go after his ride was an indication that today was one of his lazy days. One of the rarest things that happened in his life.
He forced himself to get up. He wouldn't like his PA to come back here anyway. Tacky as she was, she sure knew how to get in on him on his lazy days. She'd just push her head, so he could see her through a half-closed door, clear her throat and say," Sir, you seem tired. I already called to cancel the appointment."
Most times, she had called no company! She only just knew that he never liked tardiness, however tired he might be. She used it to her advantage. Or should we say to his advantage. After all, it was for his good. Boy, that scheme worked wonders for Luke. But he didn't want her to go through the stress of doing that today. Especially when he had no reason whatsoever to be tardy.
Just as he had speculated, Violet knocked and pushed the door open by half, pushing her head in with a phone in her hand. However, when she saw that he was already up, she opened the door fully and walked into his office once more. A young beautiful British woman who had managed cleverly to assimilate into American society, although she still carried her royal air about. She headed for his chair and took his suit from whence he had left it hanging. She took a few things that he would need off the table too. By that time, he was already out the door. She locked up and followed swiftly.
She handed over his suit as they walked down the hall. They passed his father's office, and he smiled while putting on the suit. He had made sure to leave that office intact. Although he is CEO now and his father doesn't come in a lot anymore, respect for the founder should still be maintained.
"Here's your schedule for the rest of today. Along with the preview of what your meeting is going to be about," she said, handing him the iPad as they reached the elevator. She pressed the buttons while Luke studied what was in his space for the day. She had given an accurate breakdown of everything he needed to say and do. With the way she was going, Violet would eventually become a business owner or manager soon. Although he didn't tell her very often, she was one of the employees that a boss would consider too good to be true. Brain, brawn and beauty, she is one of the country's finest. Too bad America didn't own her.
She passed the phone back to her as the elevator neared its destination. It had a mirror, so he had proper time and equipment to adjust himself with. It hit with a soft clang, a timer went off and the door opened.
Luke walked out with the aura of a go-getter not minding to look up or watch his steps and this landed on the toes of an incoming lady. Or rather rammed into her. It was a miracle that she still managed to stay rooted to the floor. On her feet. However, her valuables didn't make it. They all scattered all over the floor, including her tablet. From the look of things, the tablet even seemed shattered.
The lady bent down and began to pick her things. Violet joined her, apologizing with each passing second. Luke stood and stared at the both of them for a few seconds and then walked away briskly wondering why Violet was drooling all over the lady. He didn't know that she was of her gender. She didn't see it. But who did, anyway?
It took her too much time to get to him. He was already seated in the car when she came out into the garage. What had taken her so long though? Whatever had fallen from the lady's hands couldn't have taken that much time to pick up. He observed Violet's countenance from the car as she walked towards him. She was pouting, walking as if she was ready to give someone a scolding or a good beating. Whichever it was, Luke wasn't sure. And he didn't know whom either.
When she opened the front door and stepped in, Luke didn't need a pastor or a soothsayer to tell him that he was the offender, and he was about to get it from his dutiful PA. Even the driver froze in his seat.
She pointed out in front and said to the driver, "Drive!"
"Yes ma'am!" He turned on the ignition and rolled the car out of the garage and onto the road.
Violet's breathing seemed to be emitting a lot of heat, although the AC was turned on, and it was too loud for Luke to hear any other thing. Perhaps she wasn't doing anything, it was his pretty conscience just judging him. After a time, he couldn't bear it anymore.
"You have something you want to say to me?" He asked. The driver tried to distract himself by staring way too seriously at the open road in front of him so he wouldn't get caught in their cross-fire.
"What was that Luke? Did you even know who that was?"
Luke didn't know if PAs were allowed to scold their bosses but this one sure did a good job at it sometimes. It was one of the reasons his father had hired her for him, he was sure. One of the only few people who wasn't afraid to call him out, especially when it concerned work.
However, Luke was pissed that she was pouting over the identity of a random stranger.
"What has that got to do with anything?" He fired back.
