Chapter 2 Layla's Pov I had just made up my mind to make myself scarce when I saw them. "Iris?" I checked behind me just to make sure he was talking to me and he actually was. This man was walking over with a child in his arms and he seemed to think I was Iris. "I'm pretty sure you're confused me for someone else but I'm Lay- oof" I explained as he squeezed the air out of my lungs with a bear hug. "I'm so glad you're alive. Everyone thought you died." the man explained joyfully, leaving me a lot more confused. I was very much alive, so why would they think I died? I followed the man and the little girl back to his house and from the level of respect he was accorded, I could tell that he was the Alpha of this pack. Not wanting any trouble, I decided to gather as much information as I could. "Where are we? What is the name of this town?" "We are home, in Silvermoon. Iris, do you not remember anything?" "Not much, actually. I woke up in the woods and walked out to this town. I have know idea where this place is or why the people in this town keep staring at me like that." I explained. "Iris? Iris! We thought you died! It's been a year since." It was a lady this time, about the same age as the body I possessed. While I was about to explain that I was not Iris, the man came to my rescue. "Selene, she doesn't remember," the man explained, "she thinks her name is Layla, not Iris. I feel she must still be in shock but take her to her room and help her get settled. I'll get the doctors to come check." "Alright then." the lady, Selene, helped me up and then turned to the man and whispered; "Alex, is everything going to be fine? I don't want to lose my best friend again." "I hope so. I wouldn't want to lose Iris again but something feels off about her. I just can't place a finger on it." Alex muttered. Perhaps they didn't know I could hear them but I decided not to point it out. I followed Selene, who was now carrying the little child, to a room that had my... Iris's picture framed on the wall. It felt comfortable and unfamiliar at the same time. "She is cute. How old is she?" I tried to strike up a conversation with Selene, only to be met with a strange look. "She's yours! And she's just one. You really don't remember anything?" She inquired, laying the child, who was now soundly asleep, carefully on the bed. I observed the room and walked to the window, looking out from it. "I don't remember anything. Tell me, how did I die? What happened to me?" "Well, three days after you had given birth to Nora when we were attacked by the Bludhaven pack. You left with Alex to fight as you were the Luna of Silvermoon." Selene explained. "Alex let me go to battle after I had just given birth?" I was really surprised he'd let Iris do that. "Heh, No. But you were always headstrong. It's either your way, or no way at all. Alex tried all he could to stop you from going to battle with him but you refused. He even resorted to using Alpha's Rule but it didn't work on you. Left with no other option, he took you along." Selene laughed lightly, seeing the look on my face. "Oh..." Iris must have been strong. Stronger than I was in my previous life. At this point, I knew I had been reborn in the body of Iris of Silvermoon. The only problem was I had none of her memories and most of mine were gone as well. Since I had undergone rebirth, Layla must have died at some point but the only thing I remember was getting married to Jasper, the Alpha of Moonhaven. "Please... Continue..." "Well, we fought for a while and the enemy proved a little too strong for us but somehow, you unlocked an ability that made you stronger. You fought hard and when it looked like we were winning, Alex was ambushed. You rushed to his rescue and the strike that was meant for him hit you instead." Selene looked sad and angry. "So I died?" "The strike knocked you deeper into the woods and Alex went berserk. In a fit of rage, he was able to defeat the Bludhaven pack and they fled. After the battle, we searched for you or your body for weeks but we found nothing." "..." I was speechless. This was a tale of love and sacrifice. Iris and Alex were so much in love that Iris was willing to put her life on the line for him. I still didn't understand what role Selene had to play in all this. "What about you? You're still angry about the entire ordeal. Why?" My question seemed to have struck a nerve because she went ballistic. Her eyes glowed yellow and her ears became pointed as she bared her claws and fangs. She was wolfing out. "What about me? What about me!?" "Selene, I think you should calm down." "Don't tell me to calm down! You were supposed to sit back and nurse your child! But instead, you handed her over to me and went off to battle. Any other wolf in the pack would have taken that hit and survived, talk more of the Alpha. But No! You jumped in, trying to play hero, despite knowing that you had not recovered from childbirth." she panted, trying to catch her breath. I walked closer to her in a bid to calm her down but she snarled at me, making step back in fright. "You deprived Nora of her mother's love and me..." she broke into tears, "and me, of my best friend." She was Iris's best friend so she was hurt when her friend didn't return from the battle. She would have given anything to see her Iris once again. Her wish had been granted, but not the way she thought it would.
