Chapter 3

Chapter 3 Layla's Pov Selene was really heartbroken. She had no where to vent all the pent up emotions she carried. So she bottled up. Now, staring her best friend in the eye, she unblocked everything. "I'm sorry you had to go through all that in her absence." I tried to comfort her as best I could. I was not Iris but I still had emotions. I put myself in her shoes and I know I'd have felt the same way if something had happened to Seraphina, my best friend. At this moment, Alex walked in with three doctors. They carried out tests and came to the conclusion that fine. There was no injury, no brain damage whatsoever so they could only chalk my memory loss up to shock and trauma. They suggested that if I was able to get enough rest, I'll recover my memories. After discussing a few more details with Alex, they left. Alex stayed behind, though, and tried to help me get settled in as best he could. Selene opted to move in with me to help as best she could although I felt like she just wanted to spend as much time with me as she possibly could to make up for lost time. Two weeks had passed and even though I still hadn't gotten my memories back, I was a lot more settled than when I first arrived. For reasons unknown to me, I was having trouble sleeping. I had complained to Selene and Alex repeatedly, asking them to call the doctors back to carry out more tests and after a lot of complaining, they accepted. The doctors came around and gave me some herbs that would help me relax, making it easier for me to fall asleep. At night, I took the herbs and I felt my body relax. Slowly I drifted off but it wasn't to sleep, as I had hoped. It was somewhere else. --- Alex's Pov One year. One full year since that battle and I had already given up hope. I thought she died in battle, I was broken for days. Every time I looked at Nora, I couldn't help but remember her. Nora carried her eyes and some of her personality too. Someone reported to me that they saw Iris walking into town and while I didn't believe him, I decided to take a look. I walked into town and saw her. "Iris?" I called out, hoping it wasn't a trick or perhaps someone that looked a lot like her. I confirmed that she was really Iris. I had lived with her long enough to be able to tell. "I'm so glad you're alive. Everyone thought you died." I explained as I hugged her tightly. After letting go, I led her back home as she was still looking confused. The questions she asked were discomforting to say the least. It was almost as if she didn't remember anything, not even who she was. I handed her to her best friend, Selene, to help get her settled while I went to get the doctors. "Doctor Mal? Doctor Kirigan? Doctor Alexander? Iris is back but there seems to be a problem." I explained as I walked into the infirmary. The three doctors were seated, exchanging notes. Doctor Mal, the shorter and stockier of the three, responded without looking up from his papers, "I know you miss her a lot, Alex, but you'd be doing yourself - and all of us - a favour by forgetting about her." "I'm being serious, Doctors. Have I ever joked with something like this? It's been a year and you know that my senses ate still as sharp as ever, if not even sharper. Do me a favour and come check, see if I'm telling the truth or not" I explained patiently. I knew that this type of news would be too much for anyone to believe but it was the truth. I led the doctors to my house and they were equally surprised to see Iris very much alive. "There seems to be no form of brain damage or injury. Her memories have just been suppressed probably due to the shock and trauma she suffered during that battle." Doctor Mal explained after they had run a few tests on her. "With proper rest, her memories will return, but..." Doctor Kirigan stopped and eyed me for a while before leading Mal, Alexander and I to a corner of the room. "But what, Doctor Kirigan?" I urged him to continue. Judging from his actions, the news, whatever it was, wouldn't be a good one. "You have to be prepared for the eventuality that her memories may never return, Alex. You'll have to do your best to make sure she is comfortable and don't push it too much. She might as well be a different person altogether." Doctor Kirigan explained. I knew it was bad, but I didn't expect it to be this bad. I got Iris back but she's not entirely Iris and there's a chance that she'll never be. I took their advice and made sure she was comfortable, providing all she wanted and requested, but before long, another issue came up. It had been two weeks after Iris returned and she still couldn't sleep well. She had settled in quite nicely but she was unable to sleep well at night or even in the day. Some of us werewolves had grown to become nocturnal, sleeping during the day whilst becoming active at night. At her request, I sent for Doctor Kirigan and explained what had been happening. After checking her, he gave us some herbs to drink at night when she wanted to sleep. "Everything would be fine, trust me." I smiled gently as I looked at her worried face. She smiled back and her smile was still as charming as the first day I saw her. Later that night, Selene and I opted to take turns in watching over her while she slept after drinking the herbs. I took first watch and as she drank the herbs, she became visibly relaxed. I watched as my Iris drifted off to sleep. A few minutes later, I noticed that she was having dreams and from the looks of it, they weren't pleasant.
