Her Truth

I heard some giggling through the window, Samantha was super excited when I texted her on my way home saying my mate appeared out of nowhere. She believed I needed a dominant man in my life, but we never thought it would be an Alpha.

Rolando’s claws turned into his regular nails, his hand was human again and it was touching my face gently. My heart rate was going back to normal and my quivering had stopped, I was now staring into his eyes, trying to figure out what was going through his brain, contemplating his chiseled features, captivated by him.

“Come with me”, I finally announced.

He followed me inside, Sam had vanished, she imagined we wanted privacy, I met her on my first day at work, her mate had taken a chosen mate before meeting her so they couldn´t be together, that broke her heart, but decided to move out here to Texas as well, she was originally from Colorado.

“Take a seat anywhere”, I said as I sat on the nearest chair I could find, which ended up being one from my dining table, this werewolf made me nervous and my legs were starting to fail me.

He chose to sit right in front of me, just like at the restaurant, I was not used to feeling speechless towards anyone, not even men I found attractive, but him…

“Start from the beginning, how old are you? Where is your home? Why did you come to Texas by yourself? Because I assume you did if you live with a roommate”.

“I am twenty three, I lived in Washington all my life, a few months ago I moved the furthest I could because I was tired of getting pity treatment from everyone in my pack, I don´t know about you but were I am from, we are supposed to find our mates when we turn sixteen”.

I couldn´t look at those eyes while saying that, it made me vulnerable, I heard him sigh.

“It is the same everywhere, Sky, but I happen to be an Alpha and not care about the mate crap”.

Mate crap? Having someone fated to you was a blessing, a gift from a higher power, he was ignorant for stating stuff like that with such b*lls.

“You don´t believe in mates?” I asked him, fire in my eyes now holding his.

“I do believe the Moon Goddess gives us that choice, yes, but I see it as that, a choice, I would rather make someone else my Luna if my fated mate doesn´t have the qualities I look for in a partner”.

“That´s nice to hear, exactly what I was hoping for”, there was sadness in my reply, but I didn´t care.

“Sky, be honest with me, you had already dismissed the idea of finding yours, you were dating humans”, I moved uncomfortably on my seat when he said the word ´humans´.

“That is entirely correct”, I admitted taking him by surprise, “I was done searching, it has been seven years, all I want is to find someone to love and who will love me back”.

“Any ex-boyfriends? Relationships I should know about?”, his interest was justified, he had to know if someone could crawl back into my life since he believed so much in power of choice.

“I had boyfriends, but they were no Alphas so you have nothing to worry about”, my smile was coming back, slowly, I just had to come to terms with his belief system and we would work through it.

“My, ahem…”, he cleared his throat, “I am not used to this possessive sensation I get when it comes to you, so let´s just move on from that subject until I can navigate it a little better, sounds good?”, I nodded, smiling again, he made me happy inside, bubbly.

“I am engaged”, he uttered abruptly and my heart stopped, “it´s not that serious, my family arranged that because she´s an Alpha´s daughter from a pack that´s close to ours and wanted to make an alliance”.

“That sounds serious to me”, I managed to respond with alarms ringing all over my head.

“Yeah, it came out wrong, I guess, I can break it off if this mate crap works like they say it does”.

It made me upset that he kept calling our bond “mate crap”, but knowing he was engaged had wounded me somehow, my emotions were out of control at the moment. One thing was for sure, I would not compete for a guy´s affection, not even my own mate.

“You should get married then”, my voice cracked up a bit, but only I was able to notice.

“What?”

He stood up, put his hands over his head and started pacing.

“That´s the last thing I pictured you saying”.

“Well, that´s what I feel, you said your Luna had to be worthy of the title, and I´m guessing your fiancée is in order to be engaged to you in the first place, so you shouldn´t risk losing that”, I was really convincing, but all of a sudden there was some whimpering in the back of my head, my wolf was trying to stop me, “I´ll go back to do what I do best, honestly, Ryan is a nice catch”.

I regretted that the moment it blurted out of my mouth, a second later I was up against the wall again, his body keeping me still, his gaze daring me to say another word.

“Ryan is my Beta, he would never put his eyes or his hands on what´s mine”.

His reactions were making me dizzy, one minute he was cold, the other he was holding me up against the nearest wall.

“I am not yours, Rolando, you are getting married so that´s the woman you should be worrying about”.

He cursed in some other language, Italian probably, his name and last name sounded Italian to me, and like the wind he was gone.

“Where the hell is he?!”, Sam ran to the door and looked both sides.

“With his fiancée, would be my guess”, tears falling down my cheeks, at last.

“Girl, what is wrong with you?! You find your mate and then you tell him to marry another wolf? Are you out of your mind?! You should’ve f*cked his brains out, that´s what I would´ve done”, she said eyeing me down, “stop crying, you brought this upon yourself, I let Ashton go because he had a life with someone already, he got married, had a kid, this man is still free, I am so mad at you!”.

She was right, how could I forget about what happened to her? I took a napkin and rubbed my eyes with it, I had to think about this with a clear head.

“I am sorry, Sam, I got caught up in the moment and totally forgot about Ashton, I will talk to him, okay? Please let me calm down first, too many emotions are just overwhelming”.

“I know”, she said and walked up to where I was, “I want you to be happy, and you told me how important it was for you to find your mate, now you have, I understand he´s a d**k and he thinks the mate bond isn´t enough to be with someone, but he´s worth fighting for, I mean, did you look at that face? Sh*t, I wanted so bad to sit on that face”.

We both cracked up laughing, this girl was for sure the best company I had in years.
