Miles’ POV The council hall smelled of smoke from the burning scented candles lining the stone walls, ink, and some other element I would like to tag as a freshly poured dominance—undoubtedly stemming from Fiona’s victory—from the Silvercrest representatives that were present at the table except for Derek, of course. The mixture of the elements was an intoxicating one that could make even the boldest Alpha break a sweat. But I didn’t, as I was in my element as always. It was the second day of negotiations, and for the first time in a long while, I found myself actually paying rapt attention to the words of a woman. It wasn’t out of politeness or any good vice, but because Fiona, who was seated across from me, spoke with the kind of conviction that draws one in without you realizing.
