Lightening

I was currently trudging through the dense trees at 5am in the morning. Thanks to Kai, I only got 2 hours of sleep because I kept tossing and turning. Rowan and Reese led the way through the thick woods around our house until we came to a secluded clearing. It was cold outside, and I hated it. Once we got there, they immediately forced me into some warm up drills. I was whining and complaining the entire time, then Reese was finally fed up with my whinging. “Alright then, lets start.” Rowan interrupted Reese before we could get into a messy argument. I smiled sweetly as I took my stance in font of Reese. I waited for him to make the first move and he lunged forward to attack. I dropped to the ground and kicked my leg at his shins. He stumbled and groaned in pain but didn’t fall. I got up and attacked him instead. A punch to the gut and I twisted his arm behind his back. I laughed into his ear, but he stomped on my foot, causing me to yelp out in pain. “You i***t!” I half shouted. He stood there, arms crossed and looking smug. I stepped forward to punch him, but he caught my hand. I elbowed his arm and it was like this, back and forth. We kept up our fighting and Rowan looked amused, impressed even. I was beginning to get tired, but I couldn’t show him that. Reese was being a cocky bastard, thinking he could win. I growled in annoyance, his eyes glowed silver towards the challenge. Our eyes didn’t turn a soulless black when our wolves threatened the surface. They burned bright silver. We ran at each other; I was ready to throw a wicked punch when it happened. I felt a surge of electricity run through my body, my veins. My hand my near Reese’s jaw and his nearing my head. Then a blast of silver light and we blown apart, literally. I got up from the wet ground to see Reese standing, light at his hands. He looked like he had a bolt of lightning at his grasp. He looked at me, but his gaze was on my hands. White light gleamed from my palms and I could feel the electricity crackling at my fingers. How was this possible? It didn’t burn or feel weird. It felt natural. I looked at Reese and grinned, he returned it. “No!” Rowan warned, shaking his head, but it was too late. Reese and I were head to head in a battle. We mucked around with the light in our hands and when we were finished, Rowan was not impressed. The clearing was charred, and trees were slashed with burns. How the f**k could this even? We were wolves. Rowan forced us inside, warily. He was shocked at first, but now he looked unfazed. He told us to get ready for school when he rushed to Evie. What wasn’t he telling us? I followed Reese up the stairs. “Hey, what was that?” I asked, he turned around to meet my gaze. “I don’t know. Has that happened to you before?” He questioned. “No, what about you?” I replied, curious to find out what was happening. “Never. It must just be because your home again.” Reese said. He leaned on the wall near his door and I looked at my hands. Maybe reading more of those books in the Library would tell us more about what the hell that was. We stood there and talked about it. As soon as our eyes lit up, lightening came out of our hands. “You looked like a witch.” Reese smirked, referring to the event from this morning. I punched him in the arm. “You’re an i***t, I don’t know what Esme sees in you!” I fired back before turning to my room. “Hey! Don’t use my mate against me!” He pointed a warning finger at me. I chortled. I walked into my room and my eyes immediately went to my bed. I couldn’t fall asleep last night after we put Kai down, so I only got 2 hours. I had a much deserved 10-minute shower and I slipped some jeans on. I couldn’t care less about what I was wearing, so I chucked on some random blue tube top and put Jace’s grey hoodie over the top. I opened my door when Reese did the same across the hall. “You look like death.” He said simply. “Good thing we’re identical then.” I replied mockingly. He shoved my shoulder and I hit the wall and I could feel my brow split open and blood trickle down my face. I didn't mind it, fighting was common amongst wolves and I healed the second it happened. I then proceeded to punch and hit him all the way until we reached the kitchen. Evie and Rowan were sitting down, waiting. I grabbed an apple and chucked a packet of chips in my bag. “You have to be careful now. You don’t know what will happen if- “Rowan started. I rolled my eyes and I started to follow Reese outside. “Yes dad. I promise not to shoot lasers out of my fingers.” I said, wiggling my hands in front of me. Reese laughed and Rowan scoffed and rolled his eyes too. Seems I got the action from him.  "What even was that?" I asked Rowan. He glanced warily at Evie then back at me.  "We will talk about it after school." I proceeded to follow Reese and stepped into his black corvette as I bit into my apple. “He’s not telling us something.” Reese muttered. “Yeah, no s**t!” I replied, hands in the air. I nearly fell asleep trying to eat my apple, the only thing keeping me awake was the loud music. Reese started to ask as I chucked my apple away. “What do you think that was this morning?” He glanced at his hands and I did the same. “I don’t know. Rowan didn’t even look that worried.” I mumbled. He leaned on his car and we waited for our friends to arrive. We kind of rushed out of the house to avoid Rowan and Evie. “Did those books say anything? I mean, are we even wolves?” I whispered. “I don’t know, but I’ll check.” He replied sorrowfully and Danny pulled up beside us. I was still shaken at the thought of it. More so of that Rowan seemed to look unfazed by it. Reese read my mind and nodded. “Creepy.” Danny whispered; eyes narrowed at us. I didn’t know he was standing there. He rubbed his eyes and looked at us again. “What?” I asked, straightening my back. Did he see something? “Nothing, you guys are just…Creepy.” He murmured. “Is this your birthday present?” I motioned to his dark blue car, desperately trying to change the subject. What was he looking at that he found so creepy? “Yes, yes, it is.” Danny said grinning. He continued to talk about his car and how this school was better than the one in Kingston. I thought so too. 5 minutes later, Aiden pulled up in his own car with Sophie and Esme. The instant Esme got out of the car, she made her way directly to me. Reese growled in annoyance and stayed leaning against his car, arms crossed. I could feel his irritation and anger and I tried so hard not to laugh. Jace soon arrived with Izzy and I turned to walk to Izzy, ignoring Jace. It was funny to see him frustrated. Izzy groaned as she got out of the dark grey car, but she froze. She was completely still, eyes wide when I heard a growl from behind me. I turned to see Danny, he looked deranged and violent. He pushed passed Aiden and went straight for Izzy. “Mate.” Danny whispered as he walked right in front of her. At first, Izzy stared, eyes wide. Then Danny came closer and she melted into his arms. It was rather cute. I looked at Jace and he looked extremely confused. “Come on.” Sophie said and she dragged Aiden and Esme away, making Reese follow. I whirled around and grabbed Jace my his muscular arm. “What the hell?” He whisper-shouted and I laughed. “Why couldn’t we be like that.” I sighed. We caught up to the rest of the group, walking down the halls. “What do you mean, Deanna?” Jace teased. I stopped in my tracks and faced him, hands on my hips. “You didn’t do that when we first met.” I pointed to the car park where Izzy and Danny are. “You growled at me, then demanded my name.” He only smirked at me and took my hands from my hips and put them around his neck. “You look hot in my clothes. You should sneak into my house more often.” Jace says. My face instantly went red and Jace laughed at my embarrassment. I pushed him away from me. "Shut up. I was with Izzy." I ran to Reese and I could hear Jace's laughter from behind me. First was English which I usually had with Izzy and Reese, but Izzy ditched with Danny. The whole lesson Reese and I discussed what happened this morning. “Do you think Rowan already new about that type of stuff?” I whispered to him, referring to the crackling lightening that we both held in our hands. “I don’t know, but it seems like he did.” Reese muttered back. We agreed that we would be careful, like Rowan said, and we wouldn’t tell anyone unless it really mattered. Next was biology and Reese and I walked to class side by side. We were about to walk into the classroom when Michael stopped us. “Hey Mike.” I smiled. But he just stared at us. I looked to Reese and he seemed just confused as I am. “Whoa. Creepy.” Mike whispered. “What the f**k? First Danny, now you? What is so creepy?” I basically shouted. Reese grabbed my arm to shut me up because people were staring and Mike answered. “You just look the same, blink the same. Some weird twin s**t I guess.” He shrugged it off. I stared at Reese; brows bunched together in confusion. I waved it off and I sat in between Reese and Mike, ready to fall asleep. ---- It was finally lunch, though class seemed to go quick. Reese and I kept dozing off. Looks like he couldn’t sleep last night too. I sat down at the table in the cafeteria with Reese and Mike. I kept thinking about our training session this morning. How did that even happen? Did it happen to Rowan? Or even our sister Leah? I stop myself from thinking about Leah. It brings back that awful pain in my chest. It seems funny that 2 weeks ago I couldn’t even think about Rowan, Evie or even just the name ‘Reese’ without having to go through agony. That piercing pain in my chest was always familiar, even though I was used to it, it still hurt. Reese lifted a hand and placed it on his chest. He must feel it to. Esme soon walks through the door and the pain goes away. Before she can take her seat next to me, Reese stops her. “I need to talk to you.” Says Reese. “No, I need to talk to you.” Esme replied harshly, poking him in the chest. He looks horrified, either confused by her reaction, or scared what’s going to happen next. A few minutes after they stalked out of the glass door, Jace, Aiden and Sophie walk in. Sophie instantly finds a seat of Aiden’s lap, but I’m too focused on thinking about this morning to realise Jace. He sat down next to me, straddling the long silver seat, pulling me into his chest. He shoves his head into my neck to take in my scent. He always does this and I don’t know why. “I feel like I haven’t seen you in forever.” He murmured into my neck. I elbow him away from me and turn to face him. “You saw me like an hour ago.” I teased. He scrunched his eyebrows together. “Fine.” He said stubbornly. He then turned away from me and began eating his lunch. My mouth hung open like a fish. Now I know what he feels like when I shun him. I hate it. I huffed in determination as I pulled out the bag chips, I took this morning. I began eating them while I went through my phone. I texted Izzy to check if she was okay, turns out she is spending the rest of the day with Danny. That’s like the total opposite of me and Jace. Reese came back in with Esme and she looked much happier. Looks like she got through to him. Reese at next to me and I found myself leaning on him, dozing off. I was so tried, I got 2 hours of sleep and then had to wake up early for training. It felt like I had just closed my eyes and the bell rang. Reese ruthlessly shoved me off him. I muttered a bunch of wicked curse words that it might even spoil Reese's ears. We had gym next, and everyone was in that class. Jace was still stubbornly ignoring me because I teased him. I was starting to understand why he feels that way. I had this obsessive need to be near him all the time. We had just marked each other days ago and we barely spent enough time together. We all entered the gym and there were a whole bunch of different people. I didn’t really pay attention to the other people in school, but know I realised that they were all staring. Mostly jealous stares from bitchy she-wolves aimed at Esme and Sophie. It made my blood start to heat up. We all sat on the bleachers, waiting. In this school, gym wasn’t really an important class. We were all werewolves, so basically this was like a free period. Everyone was chatting and I was laying down flat on the bleachers, ready to fall asleep. I felt warm in this hoodie, it was especially comforting to be surrounded in Jace’s scent. Jace was sitting in front of me and I was hiding behind his back when he admitted a fierce growl. I automatically sat up to see a familiar bruised guy in front of the bleachers. He had a black eye and crooked nose. He sneered at our whole group and walked off, leading a group of people. I stood up to follow them, I could feel my eyes glowing. “Denny.” I heard behind me and I glanced to see Reese, his eyes were glowing. I completely panicked. What if what happened this morning occurs again? In front of everyone? In front of Jace? My felt my blood crackle in my veins. I looked at Reese and he was back to normal, he had normal silver eyes and that put me back in my place. I wasn’t going to explode, I was okay. I kept telling that to myself, over and over again. I sat myself down next to Reese and Esme was on the phone to Izzy. I put my head back and sleep instantly claimed me. ---- - Jace's POV – We were halfway through gym and I was talking to Aiden about the territory. We were thinking of expanding because our pack was getting bigger. All through the conversation, I kept thinking about Anna. She was only a few feet away from me and I still found it difficult. Something was off, when she went to lunge for Kane, the guy from yesterday, she almost snapped. Her eyes were glowing, and she was having a staring match with Reese. She suddenly calmed down and joined him to fall asleep. She was always sleeping. Ever since that time she told me she doesn’t sleep, I was worried. I wanted to go over to her and pick her up. But we were kind of taking everything slow. We marked each other, but nothing has happened since. And every time I did something, she would play hard to get, like she did today.  We finished deciding how we were going to expand the territory, we got up and went to join the rest of the group further down the bleachers. Michael stood up and walked up the steps. “Where’s Sophie?” Aiden asked instantly. Michael replied with a shrug. “She’s with Esme.” Aiden nodded and sat down next to Ricky and Katie. My mind went to Anna and Michael answered like he read my mind. “The twins are sleeping.” He pointed in front of Ricky. It was still weird to think that Anna was Reese’s twin. It was kind of unreal. I walked down the join Aiden and the rest when Anna stirred. She was sitting up, her body sprawled along the bleachers when she accidentally kneed Reese in the stomach. He groaned in pain and opened his eyes, smiling as he roughly shoved Anna off of him. She stopped herself from flying down the rest of the steps and turned to meet Reese’s gaze. She glared at him viciously as she started her string of curse words. “She swears like crazy.” Mike whispered and I chuckled. Anna really was the violent type. She proved that as she pushed Reese in return and the siblings kept bickering. I was starting to notice that they were really twins. They were practically identical, only their gender and how Anna was greatly smaller than Reese only separated them. “You’re such a dickhead.” I heard her grumble. “Says you, fuckface.” Reese fired back. “Fuckface? Get more creative you wanker!” She hissed back. Reese balled his fists and Anna’s claws came out. It was like they were holding out on an actual brawl. Good thing though, they would probably destroy the gym. “You’re right, your more of a witch.”  Reese smirked, their eyes glowing silver. “Shut up! You're such a f*****g i***t, you dickhead!” She sneered; voice full of venom. Their silver eyes glossed over and they went silent like they were having a mind-link conversation. “Bullshit!” Anna yelled out loud. Reese laughed at her and her eyes were shining silver. I decided to do something about it, the twins look like they were going to explode. “Calm down.” I mind-linked Anna. Her head snapped back, and her glowing eyes met mine, most people would be shocked to see her eyes not black, but a searing silver. I got up and walked down to where Reese and Anna were squabbling, and Esme walked through the gym doors. “This isn’t over, Darius.” Anna spat. “Yes, it is, little sister.” He mocked, standing up. “I’m not little!” She whined. She did look little when she acted like that. “Shut up!” She turned to me, looks like she read my mind. I put my hands up in surrender. “I’m older than you, Deanna.” Reese said smirking. “Only by 3 f*****g minutes you fuckhead.” Anna countered before she whirled away from him and stomped up the bleachers. I sat in font of Katie and Aiden when Anna surprisingly joined me. I was still kind of ignoring her after her teasing. That’s what she gets for challenging me. Anna stalked over and sat next to me, snuggling into my chest and making herself comfortable. I didn’t mind it, but I was trying to ignore her. Esme, Reese and Sophie joined us and that’s when Anna opened her eyes. She stared up at me with innocent silver eyes. She had the most soft and kissable lips, not to mention she was wearing my clothes. I had to look away before I did something rash and I heard her breathe in irritation. I started talking to Mike when Anna snaked her hand up to my head, playing with my hair. Reese decided to join Ricky, Mike and Aiden in a game of basketball. What a good way to escape Anna. All the girls left to go to lunch early when Anna stayed by my side, curling my hair around her fingers. I straightened to get up, but before I could stand, she pushed me back down. “No, you don’t.” whispered Anna and she swung her long legs around, so she was sitting in my lap. Her finger traced around my brow bone and jawline, leaving my skin with sparks. She got to my neck and I squirmed a little. She giggled at my reaction, nails dragging all the way to my mark. I quickly gripped her hand and stared down at her in warning. I put her hand back and continued to watch the game of basketball. Anna was swinging her legs and continued to stare at my face as I tried to ignore her.  A few minutes later, the bell rang and I held on to her waist, ready to move her off me. She moved closer onto my lap and I had to stifle a moan. She wrapped her hands around my neck, continuing her exploration of my face. “You know you can’t ignore me forever. I have to go into heat soon.” She said, tracing my lips. “Just letting you know.” She patted my shoulder and stood up to walk to the cafeteria. I froze in my spot. She would go into heat soon and she would be unbearable. I was f****d.
