I was awoken from my slumber by the screams of little Kai at 7am in the morning. I managed to get some sleep last night, I only woke up once. I happily got out of bed and took a 10-minute shower. I found it quite disturbing that I was in a good mood because I definitely wasn’t a morning person. I mostly woke up feeling like a zombie, but today was the day Danny was coming! I forgot how long he was going to stay, but I didn’t care. I just couldn’t wait to see him. Out of our squad from Kingston, I was closest to Danny. Don’t get me wrong, I love Jake and Emily, but Danny was like a brother to me during those 2 and half years we lived there. We were strictly never more than friends and he knew that. He went to parties with me, slept over my house and we even got tattoos together. Basically, he was 99% my impulse control. We were like the ultimate duo in my mind and I was so excited.
It looks cloudy outside, so I slipped on some dark jeans and a baby blue cropped long-sleeve shirt. I pulled my long hair into a pony tail and put on some converse. I wondered downstairs to the kitchen to find Reese and Rowan walking through the front door. They looked exhausted and sweaty. “Where did you guys go?” I asked curiously.
“Training.” Reese answered, like it wasn’t any obvious. I chortled.
“Training? Do you even know what that is?” I remember his efforts trying to hold me back from picking fights. Reese, with me being back home, basically read my mind from our mind bond. “Hey! I train often with Rowan. And I didn’t want to hurt you!” He tried to argue but I only snickered.
“Rowan? Please, I was trained by Aaron. The warrior of our pack last time I checked.” I countered while putting my hands on my hips. It was mandatory that everyone in the royal pack to be trained as a warrior. It was Rowan’s turn to chuckle. “Well then Deanna, you will wake every morning to train with us if your so good.” He smiled smugly.
I Internally groaned before I answered. “Fine. Maybe you could learn something from me.” I held my head high as I pushed passed Reese to the kitchen. He put a sweaty arm on my head and I violently pushed him off.
“As if! You smell.” I yelled, covering my nose. He laughed and the three of us walked into the kitchen to be greeted by Evie, Kai and Aaron.
“Where have you been old man?” I asked Aaron as I sat down next to him. He laughed as he messed up my hair, I hate it when he does that.
“I’ve been everywhere. And I’m not old!” He shouted as I laughed. He was right though, in Werewolf culture, 50 years old was still considered young because apparently our kind aged well. I rolled eyes and started to eat my cereal. I waited downstairs for Reese while he was having a shower, I needed a lift to school after all. It was around 8am after chatting with Evie and Aaron when I heard Reese come down the stairs. I was instantly remembered why I was excited to go to school today.
I turned to Aaron to say. “Hey, guess who’s coming to visit!” He raised his bows in question.
“I don’t know, but I did hear that you found your mate.” He poked at my now red face. I groaned in irritation and swatted his hands away. How the hell did he know that? Reese no doubt.
“Danny is coming!” I yelled as I grabbed my bag to meet Reese at the door. Aaron playfully rolled his eyes and crossed his arms.
“Oh, come on! Danny is your favourite, he’s the only one that’s not scared of you.” I laughed. It was true, Danny is the top warrior in his pack and trained with Aaron and me. I said goodbye to everyone and quickly made my way to Reese’s car. I simply could not wait to see my best friend again.
----
We got to school 10 minutes later, and we waited at the car for everyone else. I regretted not paying attention to the weather, it was freezing. I was huddled up next to Reese’s side. He laughed at me and I punched the i***t in the arm for doing so. 5 long minutes later, Jace and Izzy pulled up with Sophie and Aiden. I walked over to Izzy with chattering teeth and arms stuck around me.
She snickered. “Didn’t know it was going to be cold today?” I shook my head smiling. I kept checking my phone and looking around the parking lot for Danny. I was too excited to worry about getting hypothermia. After Izzy was finished laughing at me, someone pulled me from my hips and onto a warm wall of muscle. Sparks exploded all around my arms and back and the scent of rain and the forest engulfed me. I immediately knew it was Jace.
“Hey.” He whispered into the crook of my neck. A smile automatically found its way on my face.
“Hello.” I answered back. I would usually pull away just to mess with him, but he was so warm, and I didn’t want to freeze to death. After 1 week of being home and meeting everyone, I noticed that Jace is very demanding. He wants attention from his mate 24/7 but I couldn’t blame him, he was an Alpha and his emotions where amplified 20 times more than an average wolf and we had just marked each other. I am basically the same, I am the only female Alpha in my family, excluding Evie. A few minutes later I heard my phone ping.
“Your awfully happy for a block of ice, Anna.” Aiden said. I chucked my head back and laughed. Jace was still leaning on his car, holding me close.
“I have a visitor.” I smiled. Izzy shoved my shoulder winking and I chuckled. Jace clutched me tighter, shifting in irritation. Izzy left us and made her way to Esme who was walking out of the school, before Reese could. I took this as my chance, and I turned in Jace’s hold and put my arms around his neck. I stared him in the eyes, raising my eyebrows. After we marked each other, we could mind-link.
“Is someone jealous?" I asked in my head, grinning.
He rolled his eyes at me, standing up from his car. I moved my hands to his waist, and we changed positions. I was leaning on his car and he was standing in between my legs. He anxiously and possessively scanned the parking lot, avoiding my eyes. I pulled one hand from his body, he tried to look unfazed by it, but I caught his chin with my fingers and dragged it down and I was met with his sea-green orbs.
“Is someone jealous?” I sternly repeated my question.
“No.” Jace simply replied in my head. He quickly looked away avoiding my eyes. I sighed dramatically and took one of his dark locks in my fingers, playing with his thick hair.
“Danny is my best friend. That’s it. Nothing happened between us.” I mind-linked him. He turned to me with a lingering look around the parking lot.
He gave me a side smirk. “Okay, Deanna.” He proceeded to lean over and put his chin on the top of my head, inhaling my scent. I huffed in annoyance as I put my arms around his middle, playing with his hair.
"Your really short.” Jace said in my mind as I was about to let go. I immediately pushed him off me and he only staggered back one step. He laughed at me and the sound made my body tingle, but I gave him the finger anyway. I grabbed my phone from my pocket, remembering I got a message. I realised that class was about to start as I read the message from Danny.
“I’m going to be late. Sorry Denny.” Great, now I must wait even longer. I rolled eyes and grabbed Mike and Katie’s arm to walk into the school halls. I brushed past an annoyed and angry Jace who was leaning against his car with his arms crossed, eyes burning into the back of my head. Izzy and Esme where in front of us, arm in arm, walking to class together. Reese stood near Aiden and Ricky, pouting.
“What did you do?” I mind-linked Reese, asking about Esme.
“I don’t know!” He replied, obviously frustrated. I laughed aloud that only received a growl. We found our next class and I sat next to Katie, impatiently waiting for next period.
