The Library

The rest of the week was perfect. After school on Wednesday, Jace drove me home to get some of my things and to let Evie know I was staying at his house until Sunday. She gave me a smug, lingering look and I decided to ignore it, mainly so she couldn’t see my blushing face. I spent my Thursday night eating Chinese Takeout with Aiden, Sophie, Izzy and Jace. Surprisingly, Danny was there, and I hadn’t spoken to him properly since he got here. School was normal, I didn’t want to go because I woke up next to Jace, making it even harder to get out of bed. Jace and I have become a lot more clingy lately. Well, I'm the one that has become more clingy. As I was saying, my week was perfect until Friday, fourth period. I had Economy with only one person that I knew, Aiden. I got to know Jace’s beta and best friend more, and I had to say, Economy was fun. We sat at the back of the classroom, not even paying attention to the actual class. I was laughing so hard at Aiden that I almost fell out of my chair. He was tapping people on the shoulder, chucking papers at them and I constantly had to wipe tears of joy from my eyes. It didn't seem that funny, but Aiden and I found it hilarious. I ended up telling him about my heritage, including the electricity I had, sparking from my fingers. Aiden was stunned at first, then he exploded with questions. He then asked about the voltage, and I couldn't help but laugh. “Oh, come on, just shock me.” Aiden complained. “Are you sure?” I asked reassuringly. I didn’t want to hurt him, and I only tested it out on Rowan, not even at full power. “Just do it. And if you hurt me, you can just heal me.” Aiden desperately tried to convince me. “You know for a beta, your pretty stupid.” I teased. Aiden rolled his eyes and pulled his shirt up, exposing his bicep. I shrugged my shoulders. He was right, if I did hurt him, I could just heal him. I braced my hand on his arm, sending a wave of energy through his body. He instantly tensed, pulling his arm away from me and shaking it vigorously. “f**k!” He whisper-yelled and I fell back onto my chair giggling. Now shivering, Aiden said, “That hurt like a b***h!” “That wasn’t even full voltage, dude.” I smiled at him. His brows bunched together in horror, probably thinking what it would be like if I put all my energy into it. The teacher, Mr Taylor, just put a video for everyone to watch. I had no idea what it was, but I didn’t really care. Our conversation continued, and we started to talk about Jace, since I was staying at his house with them. “The pack owns a few companies in the city, that’s how the pack earns most of the money.” Aiden explained. I couldn’t help but smile at the fact he was sharing this stuff with me about the pack. I am the future Luna and I could tell Aiden was a dedicated beta. I was kind of confused why Jace wouldn’t tell me these types of things. “That’s why we’re leaving for the city Sunday, we some business to sort out. We were supposed to go last week.” Aiden finished. I instantly got this empty, hollow feeling inside of me. Leaving? He didn’t tell me he was leaving; he was my mate after all. The disappointment turned into anger, but then back to disappointment. Was he ever going to tell me this? Why did I have to hear it from his beta? It wasn’t really a big deal, going out of town for a bit. But he didn’t even consult me, it made me upset and I don’t know why. He was just leaving for a few days, right? Aiden looked at me in understanding as to why I looked confused, “He didn’t tell you?” “Nope.” I replied, it sounded more like a popping sound. The bell soon rang, and Aiden followed me out of the classroom and down the halls to the cafeteria. We made it through the doorway and my gaze immediately went to our table. Everyone was mostly there and Jace, noticing us, stoop up and walked over to me and Aiden. “Good luck, buddy.” Aiden joked, clasping Jace on the shoulder. He then stalked to the table and took a seat next to Sophie while looking our way in amusement, waiting for the show to start. Jace, looking very confused, faced me and I immediately grabbed his arm and dragged him outside the glass doors. As soon as we were outside, he opened his mouth to say something, but I cut him off. “You are leaving, and you didn’t even tell me!” I said, exasperated. Jace looked even more confused than before. “I don’t know, it’s only a few days in the city.” Jace shrugged. I crossed my arms and frowned at him. “A few days! First you don’t tell me, now I have to go to school without you!” I yelled, frustratingly throwing my arms in the air. Instead of explaining, Jace smirked at me and stepped closer. “Is that what your worried about?” He asked, and suddenly I was in his arms. “I’m not leaving you forever, Deanna.” He humbled into my neck. I sighed rather loudly and put my hands on his chest to push back and face him. “How long will you be gone for?” I asked, more like whined. He chuckled, arms still around my waist. “4 days.” He simply answered. “4 days!” I shouted, like it was the worst possible thing he could have said. “Fine then, 3 days.” He tried to bargain. I sighed dramatically, again, and I put my forehead on his chest. Why was he so tall? He laughed at me again and tilted my chin upwards to meet his eyes. “It’s not the end of the world.” Jace said. I huffed in annoyance and removed his hand from my face. “For you it isn’t!” I loudly exclaimed and I stomped back into cafeteria. Aiden looked at my quizzically and I shook my head, brows furrowed. He chuckled at me and I sat grouchily down next to Danny. He turned to me with a raised brow. How do people even do that? “Someone’s grumpy.” Danny teased. “Yeah, no shit.” I replied, stating the obvious. I pulled my knees to my chest and hugged them tight. Danny ignored me being a complete b***h, simply because he was used to it. “Anyway, I have news.” He stated happily. I curiously looked up at him, maybe it would get me out of my sour mood. “I’ve moved packs! I basically live with Izzy.” I sat there, gaping at Danny like a fish out of water. What the f**k? Not only has he moved packs, but he’s been here a week and hasn’t told me about it. I sprang to my feet, fists balled at my side. “Why doesn’t anyone tell me anything!” I raged. I could feel the hot, pulsing energy at my fingertips. I didn’t care, not a single bit. Jace finished talking to a pack member at a different bench when he started to walk over to the table. I groaned in frustration. It seemed everyone was forgetting to tell me things and I was sick of it. First with Rowan, now with Jace and Danny, all the people that I cared about the most. I whirled around and trudged out of the cafeteria, hearing my name being called, but I ignored it. I kept walking, not knowing where I was going. Determined to get myself away from everyone, I stumbled across a door that read 'Library'. When I entered, it was deserted and silent, just what I needed. I desperately walked up the stairs to another section of the library, escaping the lower floor just in case someone came after me. Who knew this place had two floors? I wondered around until I came across a secluded area in the room, behind the bookshelves. It was isolated and sheltered from any view. There was a big, clear window in the corner, crowded by stacks and rows of books. I shrugged my bag off and found sat on the wooden seat of the windowsill. Staring out past the green fields and into the forest, I hugged my knees close to my body. Things were going to great in my life, I was continuing to think it wasn’t real. My sleep was usually reigned by dreams and nightmares of being stuck in the past where there was no Evie or Rowan and no Reese. My nights were constantly filled with no sleep, to the point where I’ve gotten used to it. I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t sleep, and I don’t need it. I’ve survived this long without it. I leaned my head against the dark wooden edge of the windowsill. It was peaceful and quiet, something I’m not used to. I pulled my phone from my pocket and glanced at the messaged. Some were from Danny and some were from Reese. I ignored the 8 missed calls from Jace and texted Reese that I was okay. I considered ditching the rest of the day, but it would only make things worse. I had French next and basically everyone was in my French class. That instantly reminded me of home. I didn’t even know Reese and I were born in France, why was my family so secretive? Rowan and Evie raised us to speak French from a young age. I don’t really know why, maybe its because my family is from France? That seems like a logical and obvious reason. Even my older sister Leah met her mate, Summer, in France. The simplest reminder of them caused a burning pain in my chest that I was frequently used to, but it still hurt. I don’t know why I was being so dramatic lately, Jace was only leaving for a few days. I’ve only known my mate for 3 weeks and I’m already attached. Maybe it was because I’m in heat. Another obvious reason. But when did Danny move to the pack? Why didn’t he tell me right away? Danny and I were best friends, at least that’s what I thought. I was way closer to him than Jake or Emily. The bell rang and I sighed in disappointment, lunch went way too quick. I slid off the windowsill and grabbed my bag to walk down the halls to my next class.  I got there just in time to see Izzy, Danny and Esme heading inside the room. “Danny, wait!” I shouted and he spun around in surprise. Izzy gave me a small smile and disappeared with Esme. Danny walked up to me and I blurted out. “I’m so sorry Danny. I didn’t mean to get mad at you.” He stared at me, oddly clam. I started to freak out. What if he doesn’t forgive me? What if he doesn’t want to be my friend anymore? What if he thinks I’m a terrible Luna and leave the pack, with Izzy? What if he hates me! My palms started to sweat and I felt sick to my stomach. “Hey.” Danny said softly, pulling me into a hug. He could see me starting to panic. “It’s okay, I understand. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. We haven’t spoken and I’ve been spending most my time with Izzy.” He explained. I hugged him back, taking big breaths of relief. “And Reese told us about your ability, electric thing. That's so cool!” He said. “Of course he did.” I rolled my eyes. A few seconds of silence passed when I admitted. “I thought you would hate me.” He chuckled loudly at my response and pulled back. “I could never hate you. You’re my best friend Denny, I love you.” Danny said sweetly, reassuring my doubts. My eyes started to sting, and I hugged him again, hiding my face from him. “I love you too.” I replied softly, suddenly getting used to saying the words. Suddenly, he pulled back and squinted into my eyes. “Deanna." He said carefully. “Are you in heat?” My face instantly went red and I felt like a tomato. “Ughh, yes I am.” I groaned, hands on my face. Danny laughed at me and I tried to punch him, but he dodged it. “No wonder, I thought you would fry me to death in there. Your being so emotional.” He playfully rolled his eyes. Instead of raging, I smirked at him. There was a presence behind me with the familiar scent of the forest and I tried to ignore it. “Don’t worry Daniel, I saw that mark on Izzy. It will be your turn soon.” I patted him on the shoulder. He instantly paled, losing all colour in his face. “IZZY!” He yelled and ran into the room after her and it was my turn to laugh. I tried to follow them into the classroom, but I was interrupted. I turned around to see Reese, Sophie and the rest of the group. “Denny!” Reese yelled. "Why were people starting to calling me that? “Where were you?” He asked, concerned. “None of your business.” I replied smartly. Reese snarled and I growled back. His eyes started to glow, and I responded, eager for a challenge. Aiden held onto Sophie, full of amusement and Esme was frowning. I was grinning at Reese when he stepped forward and my hands lit up in excitement. Before he could reach me, Esme interrupted. “Stop it you two.”  Reese snapped his head down to her and she dragged him away. He was so tall, and I hated how small I looked. Reese turned to sneer at me, and I poked my tongue out, like children. He was so protective, and I hated it. I wasn’t a 7-year-old little girl anymore. Aiden and Sophie passed, hand in hand, down the hall to wherever their next class was. In the corner of my eye I saw someone familiar and I whirled around to step into the room to quickly avoid him, but he caught my wrist and forced me to turn and face him. The first thing I saw was his sea-green eyes and I stopped in my tracks. “Where did you go?” He demanded. I quickly snatched my hand from his grip, but he still grasped it. “I’m not telling you.” “Why didn’t you answer your phone? I was worried.” He said, more like commanded. I was going through an emotional roller coaster, but right now, I was angry. “Bullshit.” I replied when he barely finished his sentence. “What’s that supposed to mean?” He said angrily. “Nothing.” I said too quickly. “And I didn’t want to answer my phone.” I stated, ripping my hand from his firm hold. I tried to leave him, but he grabbed my waist and pulled aside, out of view from the room.  “Answer my question.” He growled lowly at me. “How about you answer my question!” I yelled harshly, pushing at his shoulders. He only staggered back a steps. “Why didn’t you tell me you were leaving!” I said, frustratedly. I tried to control my anger but being on heat wasn’t helping. My hands were pulsing with energy and Jace’s eyes immediately softened.  “We were meant to leave this week, but you were in heat, so I cancelled it. I didn’t want to bother you about it.” He explained as he stepped forward, I stepped back. “Why didn’t you tell me? It’s my pack too isn’t it? Is there something your not telling me?” I exploded with questions. “Denny, calm down.” He whispered and pulled me into his arms. I wriggled around, trying to get out of his hold, but he was too strong and much bigger than me. “Don’t tell me to calm down.” I spat angrily. That was the worst thing you could do to an agitated person. I swear I could hear Jace chuckling. “Stop laughing at me.” I pouted. I tried to shock him, but he only tensed at wave of electricity. That made me stop. “You are my Luna, Denny.” Jace said firmly. “I’m sorry for not telling you.” He whispered quietly and hid his face. It almost seems he did it on purpose. Jace isn’t one for apologies, or public affection. “What was that?” I teased him. He growled in annoyance and I poked his cheek. “Aww, is someone sorry?” I questioned playfully. He swatted my hand away from his face and pushed me into the room. “Whatever.” He grumbled. I laughed at him even more and my gaze went to the back of the room where my friends were. I looked around the room to see everyone’s attention on us and I stood still. Jealous glares from she-wolves and curious stares from pack members. Jace dangerously growled and put a hand on my back. Looking up to him, his eyes were on a bunch of wolves in front of us and they all quickly turned away. The teacher walked into the room and he nudged me towards the back of the room to take our seats. I quickly sat next to Reese and he stared at the front grumpily, arms crossed. “What’s wrong with you?” I asked. “French is boring.” Reese replied. Huffing in agreement, I leaned back in my seat. Danny leaned over the desk and asked obnoxiously. “Why is it boring?” Izzy slapped his arm for being so loud, but he shrugged his shoulders at her. “We were born in France; It is our first language.” Reese said in a monotone voice. Danny’s mouth opened in understanding. “Right, I forgot about that.” I told him I was born in Europe ages ago. Jace sat on my other side, next to Izzy. Class started and everyone was listening or writing down notes. Reese sat there with his arm crossed and I leaned on his shoulder, legs propped onto Jace’s lap, studying my nails. “How’s Kai? I miss him.” I asked Reese, pouting. He laughed as he replied. “He’s fine, I think he misses you a bit too much though.” “Of course, he does, I’m his favourite.” I responded. He chortled and I sat up to grab my phone from my bag. Reese started to bother Esme and I was messaging Danny on my phone, who was only 3 seats down. I chucked my phone down on my lap, before I could get caught, and I started to stare at Jace. He wasn’t doing anything, he looked quite bored. His obsidian hair was quite long and untamed. I personally think I would be mad at him if he cut his hair. He looked like he was carved from stone with his sharp jaw and cheekbones. He had a small, white scar above his eyebrow that you really look at if you wanted to see it. I wanted to reach out and touch him, but I held myself back. I was still blatantly staring at him until a pair of aquatic-green orbs met mine. Jace just caught me unintentionally staring at him. He didn’t say anything, he just stared back. My eyes, my nose, my lips... “Hey, Denny.” I heard a harsh whisper. I leaned forward on the desk to see it was Danny. “What?” I whispered back. He threw his book violently at me and said, “Can you do it for me, we have to finish it, or we can’t leave. Izzy won’t let me copy.” He said quietly, but it wasn’t really that quiet. I grabbed his book. “You owe me.” I playfully sneered. I looked at the bored and it was quite simple. After finishing it quickly, I chucked it at the back of Danny’s head. He scowled at me but ended up smiling. One thing about Danny, he could never keep a straight face. I turned to see Reese giving Esme the answers too when I heard a rough voice behind me. “What about me?” I wheeled around to see Jace looking intently into my eyes.  “What about you?” I replied. He put his book on my desk and I looked up at him. “Seriously?” I asked. He gave me that stupid boyish grin and I couldn’t resist. I couldn’t tear my eyes away from him. His defined face structure, his green, endless eyes that I could drown in, his pink lips that I could devour. Jace’s head tilted to the side, leaning in animalistic-like grace. I quickly snapped out of it when I felt the heat rise to my cheeks and I immediately turned away from him, hoping he can’t see me. But, with my fantastic luck, he chuckles. It’s a deep, compelling sound that makes me flush even more. This is so unlike me, but I’m beginning to get used to it since I've met Jace. I quickly finished it just before the bell rang and gave it back. His fingers brushed against mine and I couldn’t help but shiver. I don’t know why I’ve been feeling this way, but it’s pissing me off. Jace laughed at me again and I quickly got up, exiting the classroom with Izzy to avoid him. Thankfully, it was last period and we could go home, but I went to school with Jace. Walking out the front of the school, Izzy told me she would see me at the house since she is going in Danny’s car. After they left the parking lot, I turned around to see Jace in a conversation with Aiden. Sophie was standing there, twirling her brown hair in her fingers, looking bored out of this world. I walked up to her and she took a breath in relief.  “Finally, I didn’t want to deal with those two.” She pointed at the boys. The Beta and Alpha looked in deep concentration and I wondered if we would ever make it home before the sun would set. Sophie and I were leaning on the wall near the front of the school when a bunch of people started to walk down the hall, including Jessie and Lucy. She was strutting the corridor when she eyed Aiden and Jace, but they seemed to not realise the attention. I thought she would continue her staring, until purposefully shoving into Sophie into the wall, harder than necessary. How dare she disrespect her beta? “Watch where your going, slut.” Jessie sneered quietly. I growled lowly and pulled her back by her bleach-bottled hair and she screeched a horrible whining sound. “What did you just say?” I let her go and she was clawing at my hand when she replied, “She doesn’t deserve to be with the beta. She’s just- “Jessie tried to finish, but I stopped her. My hand wrapped around her neck and I slammed her to the wall. Electricity sparkled at my hands and energy shocked where my fingers gripped her neck. I was pulled away and she fell to the ground, gripping her collar. “Learn some f*****g respect! She’s your beta for f**k sake!” I started shouting, trying to pry the arms wrapped around me. “Don’t you ever learn anything!” She seriously was stupid to keep coming at me, or anyone from our group. “Stop.” Someone whispered in my ear. My struggling stopped and I recognised who is was instantly. I looked around and Aiden was holding Sophie, inspecting every inch of her and the people that followed Jessie around were terrified. Shaking my head, I slipped out of Jace’s hold and stalking further to Jessie on the ground. “What are you?” Jessie whispered, horrified. What am I? Good question. I don’t even know. But then it came to me, though it was true. “Witch.” I whispered, gazing down at her in a deadly-calm. All colour drained from her face, she looked like a ghost. Then I smiled, sweetly, and took Jace’s hand to go outside. Growling at them, Jace followed me, Aiden and Sophie right behind. We got to Jace’s car when Sophie abruptly hugged me.  “Thank you.” She whispered. “You didn’t have to do that.” I pulled back and grinned. “Of course I did!" I embraced her one last time before we all got into the car and went home.
