We walked deeper into the forest, inspecting every branch until we found what we were looking for. I trusted my instincts and followed the scent until I found the long creature, coiled on the forest floor.
“Got one!” I exclaimed, calling back for Reese. He appeared next to me, looking over my shoulder.

“I know, she’s pretty big.” I said, slowly crouching down on my feet. I carefully extended my hands, feeling my eyes flash silver. Its forked tongue glided along my fingers, slightly tickling my skin.
“It’s okay.” I cooed, picking up the reptile using both of my hands. The snake was surprisingly calm, slithering up my arms. The beautiful black scales reflected the moonlight. I was distracted, marvelling at the cold-blooded reptile as it moved along my palms.
