Chapter 5

1603 Words
A beautiful dress hangs in front of my closet. It’s dark red with a silver string around the waist. I changed as quickly as I can before the server gets sent again to get me. I stared at myself for a while in the mirror before I made my way downstairs to the dining room. Prince Edward’s eyes went big when I entered the room. For once, I’m on time. The queen is not yet in the room, and I can breathe for the first time since I came to the palace.  “You look beautiful, my Lady.” Prince Edward announced while approaching me.  “Thank you, you Majesty.” I bent my knee as Mother taught me. We both smiled. I notice the other girls staring at us, especially Emma. Her eyes follow Prince Edward as he went to stand by his chair. They placed my seat across from him again, and Emma’s next to him. I wonder how she did that? Usually, she would be placed next to me. The Queen entered and everyone took their seats. The first course gets served, and it looks delicious. Everyone is eating in silence. I finished before everyone, making sure I don’t miss out on delicious food again. Prince Edward keeps glaring at me, and Emma’s eyes keep from shooting daggers. I don’t know what her problem is. I know the Prince was not supposed to fall in love so quickly. He was supposed to give all the girls a fair chance, but I didn’t choose this. I didn’t choose for him to fall in love with me. Is he in love with me? I stared back at him. Our eyes meet and I can feel his eyes burning through my soul as he kept his eyes on me. I can feel the room spinning the deeper he stares, and for a moment it only felt like the two of us. What’s happening? I’m not supposed to feel like this. I have a sudden urge to kiss him, the same way he kissed me earlier. Emma dropped her fork, and I jumped out of my thoughts.  “Be careful.” the server said to Emma. Whose eyes are locked on me? I swear everyone can see the embarrassment on my face.  “Miss Elly, tell me how was the tour with Prince Edward?.” the queen asks.  “Miss Elly.” the server called. Oh, goodness, was she talking to me?  “It was nice, not the Farm, but.” everyone stared at me again. I didn’t finish my sentence when I notice the Queen taking a bite from her boiled potato, clearly not interested in my story. What was I supposed to say? I miss the Farm, why should I lie about it?  “Miss Emma, did you enjoy the beautiful flowers and the Lake?” she diverts her attention to Emma, and I can see the excitement on her face.  “Well, yes, My Queen. The lake is extraordinary, and the Flowers is beyond beautiful.” The Queen smiled at her answer and her eyes dart towards Prince Edward. I knew she didn’t like me, and clearly, she picked up the tension between me and Emma. Why would she bet the two of us against each other? The rest of the dinner went by quiet. The Queen finished her dinner and excused herself from the table. I stand up from the table and started cleaning up the plates. Prince Edward raised his eyebrow, shaking his head in silence. I placed the plates back on the table, dismissing myself as well.  “Miss Elly.” Prince Edward yells as I walk up the stairs.  “What’s wrong?” he asks, grabbing my hand to stand still.  “I will never fit in, please just let me go home?” I begged. His eyes turned to pain.  “Give the other girls a chance, please.”  “I don’t want them, I want you.”  “You can’t decide by one day spending time with me, or the fact that I remind you of your sister, you need to make it fair, please, You Majesty.”  “I told you, there is no need for formality.” He said, sounding annoyed, but I don’t let him intimidate me.  “No, that’s why I keep being in trouble. I cannot follow the rules, and” Emma and the other girls came walking up the stairs. I couldn’t finish my sentence, so I bent a knee in front of Prince Edward and made my way to my room. As soon as I close the door I kneeled down to the floor, tears flowing out of my eyes. I don’t want this life. I need to get back home. After today I actually thought of staying, after I had such a wonderful day with the Prince, but dinner changed my mind again. I have no longing for this, not this life, and definitely not the Prince of love.  “Elly?” I heard the Prince calls on the other side of the door.  “Elly, please open the door?” he whispered. It’s the first time he only calls me Elly and not My Lady or Miss.  “Go away please,” I whispered back, but he knocked again, and the door flies open.  “What are you doing here?” I ask, scared someone saw him come into my room.  “I needed to make sure you’re okay?”  “I’m okay, please leave.” I ask. I have enough trouble as it is.  “Did you cry?” He touches my cheek, making me flinch. I have to get away from here. I have to get away from him.  “Elly,” he whispered close to my mouth.  “Prince Edward, please we cannot.”  “Yes, we can.” He replied, and crushed his lips once more on mine. I need to breathe. All these emotions are running high in my mind. I had a plan to make the Prince hate me, and here I am kissing him. I pushed him away from me, even though I enjoyed kissing him back. This is wrong. All the girls need their fair change before he decides, and I don’t want this life.  “Don’t you want to kiss me?”  “Yes, no, we can’t do this, you’re not supposed to make a choice so fast, or even fall in love with me so fast,” I whispered, cracking the door to see if anyone is lurking in the hallway.  “Miss Elly, I fell in love with you the moment you stepped out of your Father’s car.” my heart melts, while my pulse quickens. He stares into my eyes, making me forget everything. Like he possessed me or something, but I quickly recover.  “No, no, this is wrong please you need to leave.” I rapidly said before I decide to kiss him again.  “I will go, but I won’t stop until you feel the same, Miss Elly. You, the chosen one.” he kissed me on the cheek before he opens the door and left me with my chaotic thoughts. I have no idea what to think of this? I do like him, a lot, actually more than a lot, but I don’t like the life I need to follow once I become his bride. I plot down on my bed, holding my pillow near my face. I still feel the heat as I think about how he kissed me again.  “You the chosen one.” plays over and over in my mind. I don’t understand why? Emma seems to be the better choice here. She’s elegant and she knows the Royal life. I can see by how she enters a room and how she would sit at the table. Even the Queen like her, I think? It seemed that way. My eyes drifted off until I got woken up by a knock on the door. The clock on my bedside table shows 2 AM. I slide out of bed, my eyes feeling heavy.  “Miss Elly.” Prince Edward stands in front of me, with no shirt on and only a boxer. Are they even allowed to dress like that?  He pushed past me, closing the door behind him.  “I am sorry for waking you, but I couldn’t sleep, not the way we left things earlier.”  “No, it’s okay, really,” I whispered.  “No, it’s not. I know I might have come across demanding, but I cannot let you go home, not until you give it a chance.” he stands with his hands behind his back, showing off his perfect body. I can’t help but notice how his muscles move when he talks. I focus my eyes on him as he explains.  “Elly?” He whispered back.  “Please, Prince Edward. I’m tired. Can we finish this conversation in the morning?”  “Ok, meet me at the clock tower after breakfast.” he leans forward and kissed me on the cheek.  “Sleep tight Miss Elly.”
