Chapter 11

1150 Words
Emma left my room, her presence lingering like a sinister shadow. The evil I saw in her eyes chilled me to the bone, surpassing even the malevolence I had witnessed in the Queen herself. It was as if a darkness had consumed her soul, transforming her into a puppet of deception and treachery. I tried to make sense of the web of intrigue that had entangled our lives. Julia, had hinted at a plan, but its details eluded me. All I knew was that it involved Edward, and a desperate attempt to keep the King of France alive. This preservation seemed crucial, as it was somehow linked to preventing the Queen's nefarious schemes from unfolding. The gravity of the situation weighed heavily upon me. How could the Queen stoop so low as to unleash a plague upon the entire nation? The mere thought of innocent lives being sacrificed for her selfish gain filled me with an indescribable rage. And what of the soldiers who had pledged their loyalty to protect her? Would they too be forsaken, left to perish in the wake of her insidious plot? My mind raced with questions, desperate for answers. I could only hope that Edward possessed the knowledge and strength to navigate this treacherous path. He was our only hope in this dire situation, and I prayed that he was well-prepared for the challenges that lay ahead. But there was one more piece to this puzzle, a secret that Julia had entrusted to us. A secret so potent that it could potentially unravel the Queen's sinister plans. She had confided in us the Queen's intention to blame the French King for the impending plague, thus further consolidating her power. It was a diabolical scheme, designed to turn the people against their allies and secure her position as the unchallenged ruler of England. Edward's and my minds were now burdened with the weight of this knowledge. We were aware of the Queen's true intentions, and it was our duty to expose her malevolence before innocent lives were lost. But the risks were immense. If the Queen were to discover that we possessed this information, Julia would undoubtedly face a grim fate. In the midst of this tangled web of deception and danger, I couldn't help but wonder how it had come to this. How had our beloved England fallen under the rule of such a wicked monarch? The land that had once thrived with prosperity and unity now stood on the precipice of destruction, teetering towards an abyss of darkness. As the weight of the impending crisis settled upon me, I vowed to fight for justice and truth. No matter the personal cost, I would stand against the Queen's wickedness and protect those who were deemed disposable in her eyes. With Edward by my side, we would strive to expose her malevolence and restore honor to our once-great nation. The battle ahead would be perilous, fraught with uncertainty and sacrifice. But as I prepared to embark on this harrowing journey, I took solace in the knowledge that our cause was just. The fate of England hung in the balance, and it was up to us to bring an end to the Queen's reign of terror. With determination burning in my heart, I steeled myself for the challenges that awaited. The coming days would test our resolve and push us to our limits, but I was prepared to face whatever darkness lay ahead. For the sake of our people and the memory of a once-glorious England, I would not falter. My father had always been a shrewd negotiator, but even he had no idea what deal he had made with the cunning Queen. As I, watched from the shadows, I realized that I was more than just a mere disguise for the alliance between England and France. There was something much more sinister at play, something that would grant the Queen even more power, even if the French king were to fall. I knew that I had to act. I had to uncover the Queen's treachery and save the people from this impending doom. But as I pondered the enormity of the task ahead, doubts crept into my mind. How could I, a young and inexperienced girl, possibly outmaneuver the cunning and ruthless Queen? Nevertheless, I steeled my resolve. I would not stand idly by while innocent lives were destroyed, and the kingdom fell into the clutches of a power-hungry tyrant. With each passing moment, my determination grew, and I vowed to expose the Queen's true intentions, no matter the cost. I heard a sudden knock on my door, and my heart sank. I really hope it's not Emma again. I had already said what I needed to say to her, and if she kept bugging me, I might just tell her the harsh truth. That she was not the queen's favorite and that she was as doomed as the rest of us. But when I opened my door, it was not Emma standing on the other side, but the Queen herself. “I… I’m sorry, Your Majesty. If I knew you were coming, I would've dressed in something more appropriate,” I stammered, feeling a sudden surge of nervousness. I had just changed into more comfortable clothes. “No need for formality, Elly. Where did you and my son disappear to earlier?” the Queen asked, wasting no time with pleasantries. “I… we…” I struggled to find the right words to keep our secret intact. The truth was, we had stumbled upon a dark secret. Edward, the Queen's son, had confided in me about his mothers sinister plans. She was using innocent farm girls to unleash a plague and then blaming the king of Scotland in his defeat. It was apparent that her intention was never to relinquish the crown, and Edward and I were caught in the middle of her dangerous game of chess. I took a deep breath, hoping to calm my racing heart, and finally managed to speak. "We sneaked out, Your Majesty. We wanted to be alone," I lied, desperately hoping she would believe me. Edward had warned me about his mother's uncanny ability to detect lies, and I couldn't afford to slip up now. The Queen fell silent, her piercing gaze fixed on me. I could feel her dissecting every word, waiting for me to let my guard down. The weight of her scrutiny was almost suffocating. After what felt like an eternity, she finally spoke. "Have a good evening, Elly," she said, her voice laced with an air of mystery and intrigue. As she turned to leave, I couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to her visit than met the eye. Something told me that our encounter was far from over, and that the secrets we held would only lead to more danger and uncertainty.
