We both collapsed on the bed entangled together when silver eyes peeked through the gauzy curtains that framed Jayden's bedroom.
Everything was still, the kind of quiet that settled deep into the bones, a deceptive calm that lulled you into forgetting that danger ever existed. My body was nestled into Jayden's warmth, his arm loosely draped around my waist. Sleep had come easily after the long, exhausting night we'd shared, our passion having blurred every edge of reality. But even in dreams, something felt...off.
I stirred.
A whisper in the dark. Or maybe it was the shift in the wind. The air, once heavy with the heady scent of sweat and cedarwood, now felt colder. Sharper.
