Lycan Damon POV My head screamed with pain. Even after three days, the sore and the blisters on my body were still not fully healed, despite my supernatural marvelous healing abilities. At least now she was safe. The scenes ran through my head over and over again like a recital. It was most definite that I was at beef with a good amount of packs, but never had I thought that any of them would dare to launch an attack on my pack. Anger coursed through every single layer of my body in waves and my knuckles clenched tightly until they popped. "The sheer bravado. I am going to get them and crush them into dust!" A silent resolve dissolved into my heart. A hand reached out to me but I stiffened instantly. Ella carried a rag of water and tried to pat my head with it even after several warnings. My cold stare instantly froze her in place, causing her to shiver while the water dripped on my body. "What do you think you're doing?" "I'm just trying to help!" She tried to say but my grim tone cut her off almost instantly. "If you really want to help then get out of my sight!" I growled. "Don't think you have special privileges, you're only here because of the promise my father made to your mom and fortunately for the both of them, I am not one not to keep my promise. But don't push your luck." I was expecting it. Her eyes instantly grew watery, moist with emotions as she looked away, hurt. I paused, trying to study her. Emotions, they made a person weak, just like they did to my father and they were no more than political tools and means that served an end, nothing more and the sooner everyone realized that, the better. "Emma?" I asked, snapping her off from her daze. "She still doesn't wish to see you, Lucas is taking care of her at the moment!" "Lucas." My teeth gnashed firmly against each other. A knock came on the door a few moments later, a huge man, with his thickness settled in his bones walked through the door, the long scar that stretched through his left cheeks impossible to miss. "Beta Sil!" That was Ella's cue to leave and she did instantly. "Lycan!" The beta dipped his head with reverence. "Your call, it seemed urgent!" I paused, trying to recollect something. Memories that I had gotten right after the incident had happened came rushing back into my head in waves. A lady that I was supposed to save multiple times but I could not, each time, I tried to picture her face or her body, but it was an impossible fit. I brushed it instantly. If it was associated with my political life, then it was going to come to me in due time. "What's the updates on the curse?" I inquired. My Beta instantly paused, choosing his words lightly. "Still nothing yet!" My hands cracked into the side of my bed as I lifted up from it. My Beta tried to stop me but a simple forced growl was more than enough to put his steps in a halt. I stared through the window, my mind wrapped around the burden that I was suppose to handle, the curse that was placed on me by the demon king because of the debt that I could not repay. Hell no not me, the debt that my god damn ancestors made and they could not repay. My hands crashed into the walls, shaking the foundations of the building, the pain nothing compared to the weight and sacrifice of it. "Does this mean I have to kill my mate?" I finally turned to my Beta, my voice shaky. Not that I had a problem with killing anybody for a debt, but the weight of the mate bond that came with it. "Yes Lycan, but see it as mercy killing. You know if you don't end the life of your mate, they would face a greater debt and pain at the end of their lives, suffering a thousand more than they would have if you had ended their lives with your hands." I bit my lips until they bled. "Damn Demon King..." I growled, not caring if anyone heard my voice. My mind, returned back to Emma. That's why I regretted the day she was declared my mate. She was the only one that I had genuine feelings for apart from the duties I owed to my pack. She was just... her, after I caught her spying on me and our bond grew. I thought it would end there but the moon goddess sure had a dark sense of humor. "I think you should go through with informing her about it!" My beta tried to state. "She wouldn't understand. All that needs to happen is that she will accept me back as her mate while I work my way around this. And that Lucas guy might just be bait." "He's an Alpha my king..." he tried to remind me and I growled. "Since when did that cut the chase?"
