What the hell was Dean doing standing in the middle of the pavement? The other man jolted, head jerking back, eyes wide, a trapped-in-the-headlights expression in his eyes, clearly as surprised to see Jay, as Jay was to spot Dean. Time ticked on, no one speaking. Unprepared to stand there all evening, Jay opened his mouth. “Were you coming up?” If true, Dean must have changed his mind. Dean looked to the building but didn’t say anything. Jay moved by, uncertain whether Dean would follow, feelings ambiguous when Dean shadowed his steps. “Sorry about the phone call.” Might as well get that out of the way.
