“You’re sure you need to leave today?”
Jay trundled his case through the house to the front door. “Mum, you know I promised April I’d be at her party. She’ll be furious.”
“The forecast isn’t good.”
“They’ve gritted the motorways. I’ll make it home before the snow comes.”
His mother pursed her lips and gave him her ‘I won’t intervene even though I want to’ expression. His father, coming up behind her, rolled his eyes in that imperious way of his. Jay ignored him. He loved his parents, appreciated their support, but they weren’t perfect. On this occasion, though, Eleanor Reid had a point.
