The first move

Lena lay in bed, staring at the dark ceiling. Her phone was in her hand, thumb hovering over the burner number she had given him. She had changed her voice, her posture, her aura—but one thing hadn’t changed: Her curiosity. She opened a new message and typed slowly, every word carefully selected. Mina: I forgot to ask... do all men with haunted eyes dance like you? It took less than a minute for the reply to come in. Unknown Number: Only when someone’s watching as closely as you did. Lena smirked. Mina: And what happens when I stop watching? Shin: I’ll make sure you can’t. The words made her skin prickle. He was good. Quick. Confident. Dangerous. Just like she remembered in that club… the night he killed. But she didn’t let fear win. Mina: I like bold men, Shin. You’ve got my attention—for now. He replied with only one line: Shin: Then meet me. Tomorrow. Club Noir. Back lounge. 9 PM. She stared at the screen. A part of her screamed to walk away. But the other part—the one that saw the way he moved, the way he watched, the way he lied just like she did… That part replied: Mina: Deal. But I wear red when I lie. Just so you know. Shin: Then I’ll be the one in black. For when I tell the truth. In his room, Kaito stared at her messages, rereading every word. Something about her didn’t add up. Not just her name. Not just her voice. But the way she danced like she'd been raised in silk, spoke like she'd been trained to charm kings—and challenged him like she wasn’t afraid of dying. He closed his phone, his face stoic. But his heart? Racing. Back in her room, Lena sat at the edge of her bed, fingers trembling slightly as she turned off the phone. Not from fear. But from anticipation. She hadn’t just texted him. She had pulled the first string. And soon… The whole web would start to shake.
