Thump! Thump! Thump!
I ran as far as my leg could take me. It wasn't far, not that i will mind either way. I got to Harold house, and the ambulance were already wheeling him in the van, covered with white sheets. I ran to meet the persons wheeling him, begging for me to see his face.
"Please." I begged, tears streaming down my eyes. A dark plump lady, with straight hair looked at me with pity and whispered something into the man standing beside her. She walked up to me, took my hands and led me to the stretcher old man Harold was laid.
I gulped hard as i began removing the white sheets slowly from his face, tears streaming down from my face.
"Harold?" i called , hoping that a miracle would happen and we would all be smiling and laughing April Fool! but he just remained still. I gave up calling him, and began rolling back the sheets when he held me firm.
"Harold?" I asked, scared and concerned.
"Amira, go inside and g-get the note. Don't open it u-until you turn eighteen." He said, straining to talk, before he went back to his forever slumber.
I looked around, making sure nobody saw what happened, and covered him quickly with the sheets. I walked back to the lady, with shaky legs and nodded my head. Too shaken to speak.
"Are you okay sweetie, you look pale." she said, touching my arm. Immediately, i flinched as though she was fire.
"You are cold." she said, shocked.
"A-am fine." i managed to say, stammering and started walking into old man Harold house.
I entered the house, and everything was already covered with white sheets. I slumped down on the floor, drained and thinking how i was going to find the strange note. I forgot the fact that i was going to school tomorrow, and laid on the floor.
Isabel came through the door, with tear stained cheek, baggy jeans and greasy hair. she walked up to me, sitting on the floor and placed her hands on my back, drawing circles to soothe me.
"Hey darling, let's go home." she said, still rubbing my back. I raised my head from the floor and looked at her like she was mad.
"You call that home?, you call that home?" i said, looking at her bewildered. she wanted to speak, but was lost for words. She looked at me baffled, wondering if she was still talking to her thirteen year old pumpkin with pigtails and braces.
"Am not going anywhere until i find the note!" I said, crossing my hand and puffing.
"what note?" my mom asked, confused.
"Harold said he left me a note just now." i said, like it was normal thing.
"B-but Harold is dead Amira are you not sure you are seeing things." she said giving me the oh my daughter has finally gone crazy look.
"But-." I tried protesting but instead she shush me up, took my hands and dragged me up.
"C'mon, let's go. There is nothing here." Isabel stated, dragging me out of the house, while i continued looking back.
"I will come find you soon, okay?" i mumbled under my breath.
------------------------------------------
We both walked into Jordan's house. It has sized from being our home, right from the very beginning, Isabel was just too blind to see it, and too late to run now.
It was so freaking quite. Mother and daughter hand in hand, we stepped into the living room, the first aid box still on the floor and used cotton wool dumped on the table still lay there. My mom quickly took the stuffs to their original position in the kitchen, while i just sat on the couch, facing the led TV. After much shuffling in the kitchen, she emerged with a microwaved pizza and sat beside me .
"You up for some mother-daughter time?" Isabel asked, her face lit up for the first time since this started. Who would say no to pizza night with my mom.
"so what are we watching?" i asked, resting my head on her belly. She smiled mischievously as she searched through her Netflix account.
"What about the nun." she said still grinning wickedly.
"Yes!" I said squeaking, muttering some Latin words used in the movie. What? Don't look at me like that! I have watched it a bizillion number of time so don't blame me.
"The nun it is." She said, clicking on it and positioning the pizza and laptop comfortably.
"Oh no no no!" I said, squeezing my mom's shirt. she looked at me amused.
"But you have watched it a s**t load of times Ami." she said, grinning.
"But where is the fun in that!" I replied, pouting. She just shook her and faced the movie.
"C'mon not there, can't you see it's dark. ughh why are people so dumb." I said , face palming myself impatiently while picking another slice of the pizza.
"Amira just one more word and you are dead." my mother teased, clearly frustrated with my complaints. I just shrugged , about to pick the last slice, when my hand was being smacked.
"That's mine." My mum warned sternly.
"That's not fair!" I replied , bickering and totally forgetting about the movie. I quickly jumped up , grabbing the last slice and ran for my dear life.
"Amira!" my mom yelled. Never mess with Isabel's pepperoni pizza or you get bitten instead.
"uh oh." i giggled, feigning innocence. Running upstairs, for the first time since Jordan barged abruptly in the morning. In my room , i hid inside my closet still giggling with the sliced dangling in my hand. Seconds passed and silence fell so i decided to come out quietly, holding the closet door trying to prevent it from squeaking, but failed wholly. When i finally got out, i was startled by a stern looking mother with hands crossed.
I didn't think twice before i started walking to her slowly until i could see all anger vanished from her face and then placed the pizza in her hand. She just smirked and devoured it immediately. she attacked me, tickling me to my bed.
"Ha-ha mwa-ha, stop!" I said between laugh. I hated being tickled and she knew it.
"it hurts." i managed to say clutching my stomach tightly before she released me. I just lay breathing heavily trying to catch my breath while Isabel just fixed her gaze to the ceiling.
"What are we going to do. I don't want to stay here no more." I said, breaking the awkward silence.
"I don't know Amira. What do you think huh?" She said raising her tone a bit .
"If we decide to go, he will cut off all support system and that means no school for you Amira. There's nothing we can do for now than hope tinker bell comes to the rescue." She said, finally shifting her gaze away from the ceiling and locking at me, smiling tightly.
"But one thing i know for sure is nothing is ever going to remain the same again." she finished, sighing.
