Chapter 17 – ‘I’m Yours’

1716 Words
Xander glanced down at his phone as it rang with the same damn unknown number for the third time. Someone was trying to get a hold of him and after three tries, it was evident that it wasn’t some sales call. With a huff, thinking maybe it was something about a case or something found, he finally picked up. “Hello?” “Xander?” His brows furrowed in confusion. “Who is this?” “You don’t know me, but my name is Albert. I knew Samuel and know Jade. She’s,” the guy paused and Xander clutched his phone as he heard the scream. “She’s not doing good. Can you meet her at her house? I’ll fill you in when you get there?” The line went dead and Xander checked the time. “f**k,” he mumbled, grabbing his keys. He still had hours on the clock, but Jade needed him, though he couldn’t phantom what the hell was going on. He had no choice and he prayed no one would be in search of him. Not that he figured anyone would be, as almost everyone was gone. Here was hoping it was a quiet night and no more dead bodies came in. He rushed to her place, doing his best to be safe and not get a ticket. At this point, he couldn’t afford that. His boss would have his ass. Not to mention that would only delay him even more in getting to Jade’s place. Finally, he parked behind the car that was at an angle in the driveway. Well, Albert sure didn’t know how to drive. “Hurry,” a man said, appearing at his window. Xander quickly got out of the car and followed him in, hearing Jade cry out from the bedroom. “What the hell happened?” “She was poisoned.” Xander stopped in his tracks and turned to stare at the older vampire. “How?” “She was already drinking, but the man she was feeding from was well past any tolerable level.” Xander quickly rushed into the room, almost falling to his knees at seeing Jade on the bed, in such agony. “Why did you call me? I’m not a healer.” “I’ve seen you with her. Aren’t you her bite slave?” Xander opened his mouth to deny it but something she said came forth in his memory and he stopped. If she was being targeted, she needed blood, clean blood. One that came from someone she was feeding on. He wasn’t sure he could deny her, especially when she was like this. “I’m am.” “Thought as much. She really eyes you when you’re with her. Remember, she’s going to need to clean her system out, so she might need some good amounts of blood. Protect yourself as well.” “Right. How do you know them?” “I’m older than Samuel was.” Xander glanced at him, his brow lifted. “I know Jade’s looking into something, and it might not be good for her, or you. And it sure seems like someone is after her. But she’s not on the wrong path. I’ve been around far too long and have had too many questions, but no reason to voice them. She’s being the voice we’ve all failed to be. Protect her, Xander, she’s going to need it. You’re not just a human like she might like to think.” Xander had no clue what that meant. He was human, he wasn’t some witch or something. But he also knew that he couldn’t say anything or try to object to the older vampire. “I can’t bite myself.” Albert let out a sigh as he handed Xander a blade. “Lords above, humans. I’m assuming she does all the biting. And you’re a cop no less. Here, start on the wrist. She’s going to need to take it slow and if she feeds from the neck, she’s likely to drain you.” Xander took the blade, holding the tip to his skin. He had never cut himself on purpose and he wasn’t sure he had the strength to now. “How…” But Xander trailed off when he saw that he was alone in the room with Jade. He swallowed hard, his eyes glancing back at the sharp object. A piercing scream caused him to jump, and he looked over at the vampire on the bed. Her skin was pale, paler than it should be. Like she was on the verge of death. But she couldn’t die. So, he could only imagine how much this was hurting her. Xander finally looked down at his wrist, glad to see that when he jumped, he had sliced enough to draw blood. With a quick intake of breath, he held the back of Jade’s head and then held his wrist to her mouth. Her fangs were already extended, something he noticed the moment he walked into the room. It took a moment, but her senses smelled what she needed, and her mouth closed around the wound. “That’s it slowly,” he muttered, watching her. She wasn’t holding him. In fact, she looked weak. Like at this moment she had no power to stop anything if it came her way. Was that their goal? Or was it a warning? And who were they? It? Him? Her? Albert believed she was already targeted. And Samuel had told her that she would be. Was there a conspiracy there? Or did this from the Council? Not that he couldn’t believe it wouldn’t happen, but it just seemed unlikely. She pulled her head back, swallowing hard. Slowly, he could see her chest start to slow down, not jumping as fast. Which he figured was a good sign. Again, he held her back to his wrist, figuring her hand now wrapped around his forearm was a good sign. “Xander,” she moaned, taking another deep pull. “I’m here,” he told her, shifting on the bed so he could lie to her. He kicked off his shoes, letting the little blood she had run through her body. He took off her boots, admiring the leather-clad legs for a moment. She was gorgeous, there was no denying that. Not that vampires were gorgeous creatures, because most weren’t. But she had curves that he loved tracing with his eyes. And he couldn’t deny that he wanted to feel them with his hands as he leaned over her. Well, f**k, he wouldn’t mind seeing them either if she was on top. “I’m….sorry…,” she whispered and he shook his head. “Don’t be, this wasn’t your doing.” Jade closed her eyes, shivering within his arms, and screamed again, although it was far quieter than it was before. Xander checked his phone, noting the time. He had a strong suspicion that he was going to have to call into work. “More,” she mumbled, and he held his wrist back to her lips. He knew this would probably be the last pull he could give her before he needed to drink something and rest. He was already moving slower himself. “Easy, Jade. You’re going to have to rest as well after this.” Her eyes opened and locked with his. But they weren’t the intense green that he had come to adore. They were dull, almost like unpolished Emeralds and he was sad to see that. But he was grateful that they were at least open. “Don’t leave me,” she whispered, licking the wound on his wrist. “I wasn’t planning on it, hon,” he told her, his eyes getting heavy. “You know what this means, right?” She coughed, something he wasn’t certain he quite understood. The amount of liquor that was flowing through her system had to be intense. She was so far gone from the woman he associated with. “I’m yours?” he replied, a smile tugging at her lips. “The best way to enjoy blood,” she started and he full-on grinned. “I can’t object, Jade. I’ve wanted to f**k you since I first laid eyes on you. Don’t forget, you made me come in my pants like a God damn teenager.” Before he shut his eyes, he watched her shut hers. He pulled the blanket over them, hating that she was still shivering, still in pain. Albert was right, she was going to need a lot more blood. With a sigh, he pulled her in his arms and drifted off to sleep. Five hours later, a piercing scream jerked him awake. He sat up, groaning at the pounding headache he was now sporting. Xander turned to look at the woman at his side who had curled up into a ball. She looked better, but she was still far too pale. “Come here,” he urged her, hoping that she was able to at least bite because he wasn’t able to cut himself again. He laid back down, pulling her up against him with her mouth close to his vein. Luckily, she was coherent enough to grab the side of his face and tilt him so that her fangs could latch onto his vein. He hissed at the pleasure, hardening at the feeling of the pain. Fuck, there was no doubt in his mind that he would be sporting all kinds of hard-ons for the next twenty-four or so hours. Not if she had to do this. And for sure not if she wasn’t able to help him relieve any of this pressure. “Xander,” she moaned, pulling away and kissing around the area. “Yeah,” he muttered, his arm around her waist, holding her against him. Though, honestly, he wasn’t sure who was supporting whom at the moment. “Thank you,” she breathed against his neck, fanning all kinds of pleasure to tingle from the wound and down his body. “You’re stuck with me now, Jade.” He glanced down at her as she collapsed on his chest, a smile on her lips as if she liked the thought. Xander knew he did, even if it was a bad idea.
