Adriano “Sir,” Matteo called, dragging me from the dark tangle of my thoughts. I looked up from the papers on my desk. My hands moved to take off my reading glasses, and I set them down carefully on the desk. “What is it, Matteo?” I asked. My voice sounded tired. I had been feeling tired for weeks now. “It’s about the information you wanted,” he said. His voice was quiet. “We found something about those two people.” A cold smile came to my face. Finally. Maybe now I could end this mess. Maybe now I could get her out of my head. No matter what I did; Work. Women. Even bloodshed. Nothing erased her from my mind. She was like a visitor in my heart that I never invited. She was taking away my peace. Even though I acted tough, I couldn’t kill her. I just couldn’t do it. “Where are they?”
