Chapter Nine

2180 Words
I got back into the safety of my new rooms and went back to the task at hand. Lost myself in my thoughts while I unpacked my clothes. I found a place to hang my dresses up the the large walk-in wardrobe that was built into the wall.      This would be even nicer if it had cubby holes for my shoes and a bench to sit on. I thought to myself as I hung up my clothes.      I walked out of the wardrobe and rummaged through another trunk that had blankets in it, I picked up a few of the blankets that were not my favorite, and carried them to the wardrobe. I screamed in surprise and dropped my blankets on the floor, as I saw that the wardrobe had expanded to allow for a wall of cubby holes, large, medium and small, and a bench to sit on with a back on it.      A moment later, Idhrenniel knocked on my bedroom door, “Ary, are you alright?” Knock, knock, knock  “Ary, What’s happened?” Knock, knock, knock.  I opened the door, pale faced, and stood back to the side to allow Idhrenniel entrance into my room, she placed her hands on my shoulders and shook me gently, “Ary, what’s wrong?” She asked again, all I could do was point to the wardrobe.     Idhrenniel walked over to the wardrobe and looked in, seeing the bench and the cubby holes I accidentally created, she came out looking paler than I did.      “How did yeh do that?” She asked.     “I have no idea…”      “Tell me what led up to this happening.” She said.     “I was hanging up my dresses, and lining my shoes up against the wall, and I thought to myself ‘This would be even nicer if it had cubby holes for my shoes and a bench to sit on.’ I came out here to gather up my blankets to put on the floor on the other side of my shoes, and there were those cubby holes and the bench!” I exclaimed.      “But, it takes years to do what you did, even accidental compelling doesn’t happen with such precision. Skilled compellers have a hard time with it, they have to be careful not to make terrible mistakes. She shook her head, “I canna make sense of you, child.” She said, “JHONA! COME HERE.” She hollered down the staircase. Jhona came bounding up the stairs two at a time.     Yes, dear? He said, confused, Is everything alright? He asked, looking worriedly between me and Idhrenniel.     “She compelled the closet, Jhona.” Idhrenniel said, incredulous.     She did what?! Jhona asked, astonished.     “Go look for yerself. Yeh know what it looked like when I did it. Go see what it looks like now!” Idhrenniel said.     “I’m sorry... “ I said quietly. “I didn’t mean to upset you or offend you. I didn’t mean to not like what you did for me!” I said, trying to hide the tears that threatened to fall down my cheeks.     “Child, I am not upset… I donna care what yah do to yer room! Make it yers!” Idhrenniel said quickly, shocked that I thought she was upset at me.     “I donna understand. Yer clearly upset..” I said quickly.     “I don’t understand yer majick, and I don’t understand how tah help yeh with it, and the many differen’ gifts I have seen our out of yeh, scares me.” Idhrenniel said, trying to help me understand her state of being in that moment.      “Maybe…” I started to say, but then changed my mind and said, “Sorry..” instead.      “Maybe, what?” She insisted.     “Maybe I should go back to the castle, I can get help there... “ I said, trying desperately not to tell her about Eramus.      “What do yeh mean by that?” She asked, stunned.     “Well, if yah donna know how to help me, I can go back to Uncle Albion’s and get help there.” I said again, plainly.     “Who would yah get to help yeh?” She asked incredulously, “Yer uncle?” She mocked.     Tears really did spill out of my eyes and down my cheeks.  “Yah know, I really am tired,” I took a shuddering breath, “I would like ta sleep now… You may go.” I said simply, walking over to the bed and sitting down dejectedly. Idhrenniel stood and looked at me until Jhona came over and pushed her out the door.      Ary, she didn’t mean it like that, listen to me for just a minute? He came over and knelt down in front of me. I nodded, showing him that I’d listen.      From what I have been told of you, and yer majickal giftings, no one has ever seen anything like you before. Yeh radiate powers that I donna know what are, or where they come from. Yeh are something very special, and until we know more, we are at a loss on how to help yeh.  Idhrenniel has always struggled with jealousy issues, especially when it comes to other people and their majickal abilities, even with our own children. It is a power struggle, it is her one sin, her one fault. So forgive her when she reacts this way as we figure things out with you. Donna take her to heart when she gets like this, she’ll get over it, she always does. He smiled kindly at me and wiped my tears away. Get some rest, Ary, I’ll come get yah for dinner. He said, rising and leaving the room.      I sat on my bed, feeling more lonely than I had in a long time. I had cleaned to keep my mind off of the things rolling through my head, that I could not ignore anymore. The thoughts and images that I had pushed away all day came rushing back into my mind in a blur, paralyzing me, I was totally at their mercy now.      Being so close to my home, so close to where my parents had lived, loved, and paid the ultimate price, and for what? Me? A failure? I shook my head and leaned over onto my left side and let the tears wash over me.     Yer not a failure, Ary.      A voice in my head sounded, it was familiar, but strange at the same time, more gentle than Jhona’s but still, familiar somehow.     Who’s there?  I asked, afraid. N’yssa and Ranulf. Their voices sounded together, and I understood why the voice sounded strange and familiar. How do you know what I am thinking? I asked. We do not. We only know how you are feeling. And you are not a failure. Yer parents didn’t die for you, they died because someone killed them. Plain and simple. They didn’t sacrifice themselves for you, they died because someone decided that they were a threat. Ary, listen to me. I know these things. And I know that the fire might have been set to try and kill you, but it wasn’t only after you. It was after yer parents and the rest of yer family too. See, someone knew that a powerful majickal being lived in yer house, they just didn’t know who it was. So their solution was to kill the whole family, only, you survived and thwarted their plans.  This is very confusing, my head hurts trying to figure out who’s who…  I said, a few moments later there was a soft knock on my door.      “Enter.” I said, not bothering to sit up on my bed or get up to open the door.  In came N’yssa and Ranulf.     “Is this better?” N’yssa asked.     “Can you tell who’s who now?” Ranulf asked. They both smiled and walked over to the other side of my bed and came to sit behind me.  They laid down against me and kept me company.     “Yer not alone.” Ranulf said.     “Yer not a failure.” N’yssa insisted.     “Yer the most powerful being this world has ever seen, and no one knows quite what to do with you.” Ranulf said.     “But I don’t even know what that means.” I said.     “You know more than they do.” N’yssa said, pointing downstairs to where Idhrenniel and Jhona were.     “What do yeh mean by that?” I asked.     “Well, We know more than they do, so then it stands to reason that you know more than they do, and maybe more than you yerself knows that you know.” Ranulf explained.     “Call me stupid, but I still don’t understand.” I said.     “Okay, basically, it comes down to this. We can feel what you feel, that includes yer majickal, gifts, feelings, thoughts, emotions, etc…” N’yssa began.     “That means that if we are feeling how incredibly powerful you are, then you know that too. Like let’s say that yer feeling sad… Well we would know that you feel sad, but if you didn’t know what emotion you were feelin’ then we wouldn’t either.” Ranulf said.     “Also, I can sense others' powers, I can sense other things too. Like I can sense Fae in yer blood.” She said.     “You can sense that I have Fae in my blood?” I asked, sitting up looking at N’yssa.     “Yes, I can sense the Fae in yer blood, it’s stronger than yer human blood. The mixture of the Fae and Human is what makes you so strong. It’s like when a vampire is newly ‘born’ they still have human blood in their veins, so for the first few months of their lives, they are the strongest they will ever be.  Only, it’s the opposite with you.  You’ll continue to get stronger, your powers will only grow more. Yer human blood will never leave yer veins, and it will never weaken you, it’s what makes you strong.  Yer human side is what gives you yer compassion, innocence, love, kindness, mercy, and anything and everything that makes a human human.  Yer Fae sides makes you fierce, strong, tough, a warrior, it’s what gives you authority and command. It’s the ring in yer voice when you demand to know the truth from someone, and the have no choice but to tell you the truth.” She went on, “Yer abilities are incredible, and we can help yeh understand them, hash them out, work through them, and control them. See having empaths as yer best friends can be an advantage.” She said.     “What advantage is that?” I asked, listening intently now.     “Well, when you accidentally use yer majickal, we can tell you where the trigger comes from, and how you used it, from a different perspective, and in that aspect, we can help yeh control it, and not accidentally force someone to tell you a truth they may be sworn not to tell you.” Ranulf finished.     “So, let me get this straight... “ I said.  “You two are here negotiating with me to be my best friends?” I asked trying to keep a straight face.     “Pretty much.” Said N’yssa.     “Basically, yeah.” said Ranulf.      “And yer being dead serious?” I asked, trying to make sure that I didn’t laugh if they were actually being serious.     “Kinda, yeah.” they both said together.     “Okay.” I said and shrugged my shoulders. I got off of my bed and walked to my window by my desk, which had a small, owl sized opening, to allow for an owl to come in an drop off the letter it was holding in its beak. The owl flew over to the extended branch close to the opening and waited patiently for me to read the letter and send a reply. The owl sat happily hooting and drinking water.     “Sorry, I just need to read this and reply really quickly.” I said to N’yssa and Ranulf.      “Oh, do we need to leave?” They asked.     “No, just give me a minute to read it and send the reply.” I said to them.     “Okay.” They said and went back to laying on my bed.
